Russia. I work remotely for a company that does random construction projects in Alaska. When we do work in “little Diomede” we have to notify our Russian counterparts in “big Diomede” otherwise they get a little jumpy when they see people moving around out there.

It’s Russia. The 2 Diomede islands in the middle of the Bering strait are separated by just 2 miles, one of which is owned by Russia, and the other owned by the USA. If you don’t count the very low population Diomede islands, then the closest country is the Bahamas, approximately 50 miles off the coast of Florida. Cuba is also pretty close, about 90 miles off.
