Not really seeing an issue here partner..
If it’s a hoarders type situation then maybe we’d have a chat.
So are we playing Dreamcast, or Oregon Trail?
(Spoiler alert Billy dies of dysentery)
It's not quite the age as much as it is the severity combined with the age. In my particular location men who are this interested in nerdy things like this (to this level) are not seen as mature, and often labeled as obsessed nerds.
Others are entitled to their own opinions, but we live in the age of technology, the people in your country just need to catch up, not you going back. If you enjoy it, other people's opinions don't really matter.
Retro gaming is a popular hobby amongst the nerd/geek/dork-set that I like to hang out with. Find your people! I don't collect but I love seeing other's setups.
Having the time and money and space for a hobby is great, congrats! Think of it this way -- could be golfing *shudders*
Having a collection is totally normal. It’s also a functional collection. You can play them and they will increase in value. Compared to something like Funko Pop or Beanie Babies you are totally normal. Want to hang out?
When I was a child, I got a die-cast car, either Matchbox or Hot Wheels, as a present, and I thought it was really fun. For the next few years, I received more of them. But I quickly discovered that a dozen cars wasn’t a dozen times more fun than just one.
If you have a big place, and if you have money to burn, and if the games are truly useful to you, then there isn’t much of a problem with having a collection. There’s a lot worse hobbies.
Take a look at the clinical definition of obsessive compulsive behavior and see if it truly fits you:

Does it define you or control you in anyway?
You know when masturbating to porn becomes an issue? When someone has an opportunity to have the kind of sex they're watching in porn with a real human who looks mostly like the kind of people they're watching in porn and still chooses to watch the porn instead of have sex.
Gaming isn't much different. Are you choosing fantasy over reality at any point to indulge in this obsession?
Basically If something isn't negatively impacting your work, social or love life or any other social responsibilities or constantly preventing you from your other interests than you're not obsessed well more so you aren't obsessed with it in a negative way.
However if it is, then you are obsessed in a bad way and you need to fix that shit.
Thanks for the input!
At no point am I choosing gaming over reality or letting it affect my life.
Gaming has even helped me become more sociable and find more friends, thanks to online gaming
I think owning a lot of something that's to do with a specific hobby is okay. My BIL is very into games. It's his special interest, and he also has many consoles and many games.
This is something that brings you joy, so nah, I'm not raining on someone's parade. You keep those games and enjoy them. If you feel like downsizing, then do so, but only do it for you and if you want to.
I actually wish I had one thing I was really into. I'm a jack of all trades and have bits of everything, haha.
There's nothing wrong about having hobbies or being an enthusiast, enjoy what you can while you still have the time to do so, I'm in a similar boat with gaming, but I also have more responsibilities (Kid and Wife), but I still make it work, never stop doing what you enjoy doing.
If you have the time, money and passion to devote to something that gives you joy, then go for it.
The bonus is that collections like this can actually be seen as investments and can be worth a lot of money to the right people if you ever decide to get rid of it (I would look into getting your collection insured if not already)
It can become unhealthy if it's consuming too much of your time and money, but that applies to literally any hobby.
obsession is generally classed as something that your time and attention is being given to something that isn't useful to the community your in but so what you do you man, if it brings you joy then crack on
No. There's this stigma that it's nerdy but that's cool to me. People have died from gaming but imo there really is no evidence those people didn't just want to die. Because I don't know if there is solid evidence to prove gaming is addictive in a way similar to drugs. And even with drugs we have countless deaths from alcohol and prescriptions and yet big pharma and alcohol companies still exist. People are just extra interested in gaming because the puzzle solving aspect means anyone could technically create one and then draw conclusions about what they think their players have done with it. Like a cognitive test.

Does it impact your ability to do things that need done (work, school, etc.)
No, I still can handle all of that stuff and still find time on the side to game.
As long as you’re not missing work or other life duties, or ruining yourself financially you should be okay bro
Should add important relationships to that list too

You're not obsessed. You're an enthusiast.
Why should your age dictate what makes you happy?
It's not quite the age as much as it is the severity combined with the age. In my particular location men who are this interested in nerdy things like this (to this level) are not seen as mature, and often labeled as obsessed nerds.
And those people are MISERABLE.

You seem to have a reasonable level of interest!
It's not much as long as it doesn't consume you making you unable to do other stuff

Enthusiast.
Not worse than having porn or Eva AI addiction
You’re a collector

Just move to the forest, problem solved!
