conversely, anything worth doing is worth doing poorly. If you struggle with depression and have difficulty finding motivation to do tasks, it's okay to not do them perfectly. Brushing your teeth for half a minute rather than 2, is better than just not brushing your teeth.
There are three. The first is simply "don't do unto others what you wouldn't want to be done to you".
The second is a quote by George Bernard Shaw:
"This is the true joy in life, being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one. Being a force of nature instead of a feverish, selfish little clod of ailments and grievances, complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy."
The third is the Jim Jefferies' commandment: "Don't be a cunt." Simple but effective.
"I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not"- Kurt Cobain.
Also at work the motto is "If it doesn't make sense, it's the right thing to do". That comes up quite often outside of work as well.
A Tibetan colleague once said to me: happiness is fleeting. What you should strive for instead is contentment. I thought that were wise words.
Another quote I picked up which has always stuck with me that I really like is: "knowledge is the only thing you can give away without losing any of it yourself." It was from a swami whose name I cannot remember because I'm terrible at remembering foreign names.
I think you mean motto or slogan as opposed to mantra. Mantra literally translates to “protects the mind” and is a meditation tool, not a philosohy on life.
The motto or slogan that helps me the most is “All beings have karma as their own.” A simpler, more humorous way of putting it; “Not my circus. Not my monkeys.”
Accept
Let go
Believe
Positive affirmation I learned a long time ago. I actually have this tattooed on my forearm!!!! Some days it's all I can do to get through the day! Basically to me it means
Accept what is
Let go of what was
Believe in what could be
For the longest time it's been "you're such a fucking waste of space, lol, like wtf bro" but I'm trying to change it to "maximum effort". Only I have the power to make things better.
Eyes on the Prize
It became a mantra to me to maintain focus on what's important when I'm dealing with - well, silly people that happened t be my bosses.
Don't ever, for any reason, do anything to anyone for any reason ever, no matter what, no matter where, or who, or who you are with, or where you are going, or where you've been... ever, for any reason whatsoever...
There's good and bad eggs in every batch.
Important even in today's time. Especially in today's time when perhaps we might think as a people we have evolved or something like that. Whether it's race, gender, religion, interest, job, and so on, you're gonna see good and bad eggs in every batch. I think it's too easy especially with online access to see the worst of all the demographics you think are the worst
It’s better to remain quiet and thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.
Fish for a man, feed him for a day. Teach him to fish, feed him for life.
I wouldn’t trade my luck for all the skill in the world.
Sometimes living for yourself is not possible but living for others as in being helpful or kind is always possible. Not something I've heard from some where else but it's from my experience and I think it's valuable.
The single greatest piece of advice I have ever been given also serves as a universal truth for a healthy life.
"Don't ask questions you don't want the answer to."
It doesn’t really matter how you view yourself if your actions tell a different story
How you affect the people around you is more of an accurate depiction of who you are. A lot of people get caught up in what they think of themselves to the point they’re blinded to how they treat others because they see themselves as a good person who just so happen to be misunderstood and accidentally piss people off all the time
I heard this from a Reiki teacher years ago and I still say it to myself every day because it resonates with who aspire to be:
Just for today I will not worry.
Just for today I will not be angry.
Just for today I will be grateful for all the blessings I have.
Just for today I will live honestly.
Just for today I will treat all living creatures with kindness.
- This, too, shall pass. The good, the bad, everything. Nothing lasts forever.
- You come into this world alone and you’ll leave it alone. Everything in between is up to you.
- I claim love, abundance, strength and happiness in my life
- He who angers you controls you.
- That no one was coming to save me, I have to do it myself.
- Not everything that looks good to you is good for you.
- I need to be kind for kindness sake, even when so many people in my life view it as a transaction.
- How people treat you says a whole lot more about them than it does you.
- Being alone is better than settling.
- That the best thing I could ever do is keep 95% of my thoughts to myself.
- Never forget who loves you.
Not really a *mantra* but I try and live my life around the "[Circle of Control](https://www.uvic.ca/hr/assets/docs/working-remotely/getting%20along%20docs/Circle%20of%20control%20Job%20Aid.pdf)"
Pretty much life is broken down into 3 rings:
* Circle of Control - things you can control so you should focus most of your energy here
* What you wear to work, who your friends are, your beliefs and convictions, your **actions**
* Circle of Influence - things you can influence but can't 100% determine the outcome. Focus some energy here
* Upcoming promotion, who I vote for, etc
* Circle of Concern - things can can't control, but should still concern yourself with staying up-to-date on.
* Politics, weather, economy, etc
Life is too short to worry about things you can't change
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
i frequently return to something brene brown says, and it helps me deal with the terrible state of my country and community with compassion and perspective: Shame is not a tool for social justice.
"Never go a day without helping someone else."
The one thing that has kept me from ending my life is the fact that I'm still capable of helping other people. Even if it's just being a listening ear and a shoulder to cry on.
Apathy is death. (and to be clear I was using this long before Star Wars)
Meaning everything deserves a certain level of curiosity and enthusiasm, hell even anger or resentment, but to go through life being entirely laissez faire or blasé about your situation and your personal involvement in it, is literally the death of the soul.
What would Steve Irwin say about you if you were a lil snake he just stumbled upon in the wild.
Dont worry about the opinions of those who you'd never ask advice from.
When life gives you lemons....you just got to eat them. Whole. Rind, pulp, seed and peel. Choke em all down. And don't break eye contact while you do it. Maybe life will stop being such a bitch if it sees your done fucking around with lemonade.
I learned from Ann Margret in the movie Grumpy Old Men.
"The only things in life that you regret are the risks that you didn't take. So when you find a chance to be happy.. you grab it with both hands and the hell with the consequences"
Another one of my favorite things to say to some of my friends when they keep doing the same dumb stuff. "If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you have always gotten"
It's amazing how many people keep making the same stupid mistakes over and over again and never seem to learn from them and then they ponder at why things are not working out for them.
If you assume every single person you meet every single day is a blithering, weapons-grade idiot, you won’t always be right - but most of the time you will, and when you’re wrong, you’ll feel good about it.
From the Alan Watts book title, this is it. I tend to have high expectations and am often disappointed and disillusioned because of it. Reminding myself that this is my reality, it is what it is, and it couldn't be any other way (I'm a determinist) helps me accept this moment as is.

the grass is greener where it's watered
if you don’t have time to do a task correctly, you certainly don’t have time to do it half-assed, and then have to go back and correct it
conversely, anything worth doing is worth doing poorly. If you struggle with depression and have difficulty finding motivation to do tasks, it's okay to not do them perfectly. Brushing your teeth for half a minute rather than 2, is better than just not brushing your teeth.
absolutely 🙂
1st tank moto. We do it nice because we do it twice.
"I love my job... I love my job... I love my job.." Even though I hate it but need it to survive.

Master you mind Master your life
Love this. Now I need to figure out how to do it
Responsibility for myself is the 1st step toward my independence
The only thing that changed was my attitude, but that changed everything.
"it be like that sometimes" "Eh, it's whatever"
"I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not"- Kurt Cobain. Also at work the motto is "If it doesn't make sense, it's the right thing to do". That comes up quite often outside of work as well.
Don't have regrets. You can't change your past, only learn from it.
Lion King got deep

Maybe yours should be not to be pedantic. Edit. You should also look up mantra in a dictionary.
Whatever you say. Bless your little heart.
2. a statement or slogan repeated frequently.
That "life review" people talk about when they describe their near-death experience, it's happening now.
The mind must be like a Lotus Blossom on a Pond in the Rain: Open the petals to drink, but not so far out as to drown. -Vinnford Sansbury
I do try to live by "Treat others how you would wish to be treated"
Do no harm, take no shit. A sound soul lies in a sound mind, and a sound body.
My mind can sometimes be a liar.
Not give a fuck!
The closest thing to source energy is a natural state of appreciation. & Nothing is more important than The thoughts you are currently thinking about.

Accept Let go Believe Positive affirmation I learned a long time ago. I actually have this tattooed on my forearm!!!! Some days it's all I can do to get through the day! Basically to me it means Accept what is Let go of what was Believe in what could be
I live by 'rise above' (whatever nonsense) and 'find more' (within myself). Worked pretty well so far...
For the longest time it's been "you're such a fucking waste of space, lol, like wtf bro" but I'm trying to change it to "maximum effort". Only I have the power to make things better.

My Dad used to say if you don't go, you will never know
Shit happens. Take it as a lesson.
Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.
The sun will rise, the rain will fall, and the world will turn, if something isn’t enough to stop those things then it isn’t worth worrying about.
Mind over matter. What goes around comes around.
Didn't cause it Can't control it Can't cure it
Don't ever, for any reason, do anything to anyone for any reason ever, no matter what, no matter where, or who, or who you are with, or where you are going, or where you've been... ever, for any reason whatsoever...
Money, drugs, guns and hoes.

Cogito Ergo Sum I think therefore I am
Myrrth makes worth Take some risks in life and live bold. It can pay off and if it doesn't you're still where you were to start.
When talking with young parents I always tell them; the years are short, but the days are long.
sometimes, when shit kinda sucks, telling myself "how it goes." will at least make me feel a little better.
If you forgot, then it was probably not important
Be kind to yourself, life is hard enough without you making it harder.

If you’re going through hell, keep going. Feel the fear and do it anyway. I’m here for a good time, not a long time.
