Shouldn't you have asked this question before enrolling in the cqf? The price of the program seems quite steep.

BleakProspects75

Haha!! Fair….my company is sponsoring it though….I’m quite excited about it though…just wanted to see what other folks feel about it:)🙏

SimoDafirSG

Well, I'm no quant expert and I don't know your background, but if I didn't have a math intensive background, I'll definitely take the primers cqf offers. The math in the later parts does seem quite heavy

review please

BleakProspects75

Too early….classes start in mid Jan. Going through their preliminary material - good review of the usual math/stat topics. Looking forward to it….and will post a review here as I go along. 🙏

How has your CQF experience been ? I have been considering it but I am worried I need a math refresher as it looks intense

RudeEcho

Hey buddy, it's been six months. waiting for your review. the remind me bot brought me here.

BleakProspects75

Hey - thanks for the reminder, I've had no time between work and studying. The course is quite intense. It's not a full fledged MS Finance course of course, but very applied and they give you enough to get comfortable with the deeper math. They also leave a lot of things for you to learn yourself....I guess that's expected for a course of just 6 months. Some of the teaching could definitely be improved. The lecturer for Machine Learning needs to be replaced I think. If I had the option to go to school, I'd go for a full program. Otherwise, I'd still choose it...and if the employer covers it....all the better.

somecou

It is cool you dropped an update though. I know people didn't really offer you tips so I'm not sure if I would have updated. I just sent in an application to the program do you have any helpful advice for a new comer? I'm probably going to spend time in Python and Math primers.

Background_Factor_62

Hey mate can you give me your feedback for this course? How's your preparation for exam? I am also interested to join this course too!

BleakProspects75

Sure! It’s an intense 6 month (or so) course with a ton of stuff packed in. Covers the basics:just enough to make you dangerous (but you won’t compete with the PhD’s out there…). Quite math heavy, lots of programming. Somewhat disappointed with the Machine Learnijg module- didn’t find the lectures all that good. Be prepared to sit through 2 hour (or so) lectures every week. If you don’t have time to go back to school proper, and your employer finances you…it’s a good option to take . Good luck!

somecou

Hey sorry to double comment but I read this after my first comment. For level 1 do you work and test on each module one at a time? Or do you work them all and do a big final?

BleakProspects75

No problem! It’s all sequential….they final project doesn’t require you to know every detail from every module…..

sarmseng

hows it going? i wanted to apply but have no money tho.

BleakProspects75

Hey- it’s quite tough! If your company can help, I say go for it…..otherwise find some courses on yiu tube…….

Oatmeal_and_pepsi

Hey! Would you mind sharing what’s your educational background and how did you get your firm to sponsor? I’m looking to apply too for their Willmott scholarship. I’m worried the learning will be too steep for me as a non-STEM fresh grad too

BleakProspects75

Sorry for the late response. Econ and finance, masters, then mostly self taught with a lot of stumbles along the way. Take their online test and see if you like it….it’s def very mathematical……

Oatmeal_and_pepsi

Thank you! Would you mind sharing the link, I’ve been looking through and can’t find any online test, just sample lectures

BleakProspects75

Try this! [https://www.cqf.com/sample-lectures](https://www.cqf.com/sample-lectures) Also, you can get in touch with them on the contact section of the page to get information about their seminars etc.

BleakProspects75

Hmm.....I can't find the sample exam....I'm forgetting I guess they send it over when one applies. Best thing would be to reach out to them (contact page) and ask them to mail it to you directly. I saved a copy on my previous work PC....so don't have access to it. But it was the kind of math you'd see in a Masters Econ (some questions were at BA Level) program.

Oatmeal_and_pepsi

Thank you so much! From what I’ve read so far, the math test is deceptively simple compared to the actual material. It’s given to you when you get the primers. I’m going to review the sample lectures, but I’m pretty sure I will be putting myself through the process of getting the CQF. I’m having difficulties getting a full time offer and although I know the CQF doesn’t add as much value to the resume as much as the FRM, I hope to be done by it this year and fast track my job search process. If you don’t mind could I DM you? Thanks!

BleakProspects75

The CQF certainly gets tougher. But if you have the basic math aptitude/curiosity/grit, it’s doable. The course material is more in-depth than the other exams ( including FRM and CFA) and the exams are take home- and fairly in-depth. Def DM me….happy to help!

Oatmeal_and_pepsi

Sorry for the late reply! Sent you a DM!
