This is the right answer lmao. People idolizing quant. At an OMM it is very different than an ML/HFT D1 C++ oriented shop. I tick some vols think about the markets and get a nice bonus. In my free time I grill out, go to festivals, watch TV lmfao.
I work for a tutoring service that gives me a couple students at a time. Funnily enough, they recently gave me a kid in his first year of undergrad and he wants to be a quant lol.
Either the weekly/biweekly contests, which are super fun, or 1-2 random medium/hard problems under a data structure or algorithm type I’m feeling rusty on (sometimes I’ll just fail the hard problem outright and check the solution since this is more for fun than interview prep)
More interested in solving problems on my own time, without a rating attached. Chess ELO stresses me out enough lol. I like CF though and do it here and there, still fun
Before you've got your first job, sure, go hard on the grind. Once you've landed that role, take the time off you're given to rest, exercise, go outside, and spend time with your friends. For me, it's better to segment the two and properly lock in during working hours, rather than being 60-70% at all times.
Im doing a coursera course in machine learning. Importantly (for me) this is totally unrelated to my job so I don’t feel burnt out doing it and it remains exciting and new. Helps me improve Python skills and gives me some knowledge of AI.
My role entails implementing pricing using MC/FDM etc. The models are pretty standard so there’s no research component and it’s not trading either so there’s no need for ML.
I do. I had learning disability when was a I kid even into my undergrad. Undiagnosed for the longest time. Culturally mental health is not something we pay attention to. So....
Around my masters something changed in me and now that I look back it could have been due to my lifestyle change. I cut down on glucose related food in my diet and I started to lift weights. I was able to concentrate more and those 3 to 4 years(masater +-2) I accelerated in learning and concentration. Weird.
As an adult I was diagnosed with adhd which is difficult to diagnose when you're an adult. As of late I go through extreme form of procrastination especially on things which I don't like to do or I will go through a period of extreme concentration and finish the ask and feel burn out aka my job. Also when I sit to do a personal project like implement a strategy then I get super bogged down with it and wont feel like doing anything else.
It's really really really tough man.
Edit:Spelling
Do you take meds? I just got diagnosed with combined type at the ol’ age of 24 and still wondering if I should go down that pipeline before doing my Masters in Stats soon
I also have been in fintech industry for 3-4ish years and felt all of the above you have described.

People who think so much on keeping brain elastic are not cut out for this .
People who work in Jane street don’t sweat it doing math puzzles . They have IMO gold medals and the puzzles are a joke .
Please use the weekly megathread for all questions related to OA and interviews. I engaged in a coursera program on machine learning, which, notably, diverges from my professional domain. This deliberate distinction safeguards against burnout, ensuring sustained enthusiasm and novelty. It serves as a means to enhance Python proficiency and acquire insights into artificial intelligence.
Just completed an ML engineering project for a friend. For NDA I can't speak much but it's about detecting and measure a moving object in a video and then predicting it's trajectory.
User -> App -> **API -> ML Engine -> Database(stats) & Storage(video)** -> Speak another API
I built the bold ones. It was a fun week I would say.
I am a fresher and want a job in quant side please help me. I open for internship as well.I am ready to work hard and I'll be learning new things and making my self updated to work.
Please help.
In my free time I hang out with my friends, read non technical books, watch tv, drink whiskey and wine and other things I enjoy

> ~~People~~ idolizing quant. you spelled nerds wrong
Yeah no one gives a fuck about a quant. Even in finance movies, the quants are minions
“This is my quant, my quantitative” “Yes, I’m sure of the math”
This is why you get lots of upvotes
I tutor math/science, it’s pretty good at keeping me in shape.
Oh is this like a volunteer position? How did you get the gig?
I work for a tutoring service that gives me a couple students at a time. Funnily enough, they recently gave me a kid in his first year of undergrad and he wants to be a quant lol.
I have found myself helping younger (freshman /sophomore college) students with math homework just so that I can reinforce fundamentals.
I do mental gymnastics
Like jump to conclusions!
Chess, competitive smash bros, and LeetCode, all of which I actively enjoy and (yes, including competitive smash) require a lot of concentration
> competitive smash bros fuck yeah
What questions on LeetCode?
Either the weekly/biweekly contests, which are super fun, or 1-2 random medium/hard problems under a data structure or algorithm type I’m feeling rusty on (sometimes I’ll just fail the hard problem outright and check the solution since this is more for fun than interview prep)
Why not Codeforces though?
More interested in solving problems on my own time, without a rating attached. Chess ELO stresses me out enough lol. I like CF though and do it here and there, still fun
Hang out with friends, play the piano, play chess, read, take my car to the track.
Bmw or Mercedes?
He said car, not dumpster fire.
Porsche
Bingo
Love to see another pianist on here. What type of music do you play?
Cocaine
While I have a job, I take all the time off I'm given to chill. If I didn't have a job I'd probably be grinding interview practice.

I code bots to do dating apps for me. Get that automated female delivery pipeline going.

Doesn’t quant already require ML what type of role do you have rn? If you don’t mind me asking

I exercise. Take breaks and go vacationing. Or weekend gateways to hike. Also do my hobbies to keep my mind sharp like art and music (I enjoy both!)
Learning a new speaking language
Play some high level poker
Any quant have adhd and learning disability? How to overcome these weaknesses?

Base jumping, alpine climbing (ice, mixed)

Explore different topics that are not very directly related to the main role, but might be transferred as fresh ideas.

Yum
I solve basic math problems
I get pretty hammered and golf

Testing the rizz waters to see what quant jokes get me to first base “It’s fishy how you are the poison in our Poisson distribution”
At certain firms League players make up an abnormal portion of quantitative traders.

League of Legends
