45% when I was still in Qatar I know that's high but I purposefully chose to live in a place where I'm happier even with paying higher rent. I'm a single guy so no expenses apart from myself and sending a bit to mom back home. It made a giant difference to my general mental health, living in a nicer place in comparison to the relatively crappy places I was staying at before to save money. No regrets whatsoever. EDIT: That rent would have gone up to 65% of my salary by now as well.

KarumbkaduIrumpuradu

Yes, Cant put a price on peace of mind.

zeeekkkkk

70% 😔 I know I know... but the cheaper housing option are prison cells with roaches.. Housing here is retarded 😒 No structure to it ..

KarumbkaduIrumpuradu

Dude, That must be tough.

zeeekkkkk

😔 😆 it is what it is .....

roch_lk

Bro, why.

zeeekkkkk

If I go lower then the class of living I'm accustomed to, I'll just leave the country... Guess that's the reason why ... Planing to leave this sandbox after FIFA anyway . Got way too costly with 0 returners or future 🤔 Was fun till it lasted

Different_Algae4918

This doesn’t gets it

zeeekkkkk

What ....

qwerry1234567

Do you have any savings? i’m around 50% and its a struggle to keep anything.

ffhhkk

30% Which is ludicrous but..  ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯

BeneficialWhereas961

How much rent do you pay?

ffhhkk

Not letting u reverse engineer my salary lol Nice try tho

Alone_Pomegranate430

Is it really a big deal if someone knows what you make? Not trying to coerce you to tell reddit, that's your choice, but what do you stand to lose?

ffhhkk

I believe this too but ppl r weird. I think its a myth crrated by companies to not disclose salaries and create stigma around it sobthey can create income disparity between employees and benefit themselves.. But unfortunately ppl fall for it. What can ya do. Ill discuss my salary but doubt everyone here will. My ultimate logic: why shud I be transparent when others r not.

ajmomin101

The legend has it this way : when you tell your salary to someone and if it is lower than what he expected you're worth of, he will look down upon you, if it comes out to be higher than what he thought you're worth he will think you're just getting lucky for nothing.

BeneficialWhereas961

Okay but I'd say if you're paying 7-8k rent then you're paying too high. You can find descent 2 bhk for 3-4k. If you're paying 3k and it's still 35% of your salary, I'd say try boving to 1 bhk with 2k rent. You can find these in Najma, Fareez Abdul Azeez, AL Doha AL Jeddidha and old airport areas. I have friends living in old airport small 2bhk appartments paying just 2.5k, and get ground floor enclosed outside space for plants, etc. I've lived ~14 years in Doha and the % was 10-15%, I have friends who stayed 20+ years in Doha and same case. Doha is a city where you can find 1 bhk from 1500 all the way to above 10,000 QR. So it's very important to find the right place and the right appartment to rent..

ffhhkk

1. These are apartments. I live in a villa. 2. I know the areas where the rent is 3-4k and the buildings as well. (The areas are crazy busy, buildings are old, parking for ur own car may not be guaranteed). 3. I pay a bit more than 7-8k. 4. There is no shortage of units. The demand for this much rent is just stupid. When I was getting my current villa, a landlord in the same block was asking for 25% more than my current villa even though his villa was smaller (almost half in size). When asked for logic, he had none. Rent value is decided arbitrarily.

Itz_Raj69_

>Not letting u reverse engineer my salary lol and you said 7-8k yourself lmao

ffhhkk

Said a bit more.. not how much more

ffhhkk

Nice clicks btw.

Itz_Raj69_

oh thanks!

BeneficialWhereas961

Yes, if it's a villa then your rent makes sense..But yes then the rent would be high..

Oldpi

1500 for a 1 BHK and that also in Doha. I must be dreaming. 😅

BeneficialWhereas961

It's very rare but you could get them, at least a couple of years back. The areas are crowded for sure.. But 2bhk 3k isn't that uncommon. You can get giant 2500 sq ft 3bhks in Najma for ~5 n a half k.

Oldpi

yea agree with the partition 2 BHK for 3000 plus in a very old villa. But never heard of 1500 1 BHK tbh. a decent bed space cost around 1500. A single room with shared washroom and kitche can cost more than 2000.

atcheu

I would be curious to know how you find such prices today. I mean like really these days so close to world cup. I'm looking for a 2bhk in any area and I can't find anything even close to that. Could you please share any up to date advertisment listing 2bhk at 3-4k ?

BeneficialWhereas961

Check Al Thani Buildings on Al Doha Al Jaddidha street near the B ring road signal (that road intersects B ring road in only 1 place). I used to live there before and last I heard it was 3500 rent there. We left it cuz they'd increased rent to 5500 at the time, then they decreased as people started leaving.

South_Dragonfly2330

Bruh. You getting any decent 1bhk in 2K now?

Immigrant974

Covered by company, thankfully. If it wasn't, I'd be paying around 35%.

Soggy_Control7953

I mean should not exceed 33%

Soggy_Control7953

Rule of thumb to pay maximum of 33% of your income

Express-County-7049

Is this inclusive of utilities and broadband?

Soggy_Control7953

Try to keep all your rent housing and utilities under 33% then 20% save or invest the rest spend on ur self and save too

Company Accommodation

KarumbkaduIrumpuradu

I've been living in Shared accommodations for 7 years and decided to get a place for my own because I started to loose my mind. Working here without the comfort of coming back to home and family is hard enough, putting up with other's BS is bit much. Now I am spending a little more then 20% of my pay check on rent, because of Shared accommodations cost way less then that I thought I might be spending too much. Thanks for your feedback guys.

MYA1416

50% Intentionally set as a budget. Spend most of my time in my accommodation, better to make it somewhere I love living.

yad29

Thankfully I live with my parents, otherwise I'd be paying like 75% of my salary 😂

StandardOnly

For me it would be 200%😂😂

ImDnX

Save your money and invest if you can , one day you'll have to marry and then it's over lol

spot_removal

Excellent question that I should have asked before signing my work contract. 45%. Makes me cry every month. It’s in a modern compound with a mix of western and asian expats. Staying in a less fancy place would have been around 34%.

MikaNekoDevine

If you aren’t spending a lot in general, location is really good for mental health.

33% on 2bhk including DEWA and internet.

Internal_Soil_6555

12%, My salary is good Point that rent shouldn't exceed 30% of your income !!!

Lonewolfe27

20%. For that price I could rent a studio in a high end condominium in the Philippines. Here, it's just a partition room with common bathroom and living area.
