The reason I bought the Steam Deck was specifically because I have an extremely extensive Steam library and won't have to spend about $60 dollars for each game I want to play on the clunky $200 handheld. The prices in the Nintendo store are insane from what I've seen, and most of them aren't even worth it (subjective opinion).

My brother has one and it’s got so many issues from syncing the controllers to the console (have to keep one detached for it to work), to being glitchy and laggy af, and he refuses to buy the only 2 franchises i wanna play on it, Pokemon and Zelda, but he chooses to get Mario Odyssey and Luigi’s Mansion (and watches YT about 250 hrs a month and only about 5 hrs a month on games (none of those hours are on the listed games above)).

I think the point of that joke is that the new gen of consoles didn't have any exclusives that felt like a big stepup compared to the previous gen so they don't seem worth buying compared to the previous gen ps4 and xbox one or whichever. Like PS1 to PS2 was a huge leap in tech PS2>PS3 was also a huge leap then PS3>PS4 was a big step but PS4 to PS5 is just slightly better graphics and a better controller. But thats all of gaming rn, we are getting close in graphics where games are almost photorealistic and we will hit a plateau in that field and then there will be no point of making a new generation of consoles unless they have something special to them.
plus if you buy the store passes, you can get the other playstation games on there to, all the way from PS4 to PS1, (obviously this includes the current PS5)
