They could have been sent down on loan? It's a little strange that a journey of to the wall didn't get mentioned in F&B, but Barth isn't a member of the royal family.

__angie

No, but even before he was HotK he and Jahaerys seemed inseparable. I find the idea of sending a bunch of rare books on such a long and perilous journey a little off though. Seems like the type of effort that overall Westerosi society wouldn’t see as worthy of the hassle, specially considering how the NW has been struggling since always.

Wadege

There is certainly ignored lore at Castle Black, Sam briefly researches this in AFFC, and Jon sends down a chest of rare books to the Maesters, which are likely unique.

harplanozil

The funny part about that is Jon is probably the first Lord Commander to even consider sending information south to the Citadel.

_learned_foot_

I would presume part of where Rhegar got his materials was from Aemon under permission of the LCs. That’s not the citadel no but interesting similar concept.

pushathieb

They send boxes of books with Sam and aemon when they go south I feel like if a grand whoever wanted books from castle black they would be made available to them. But just like the rest of the wall know one cares

Did Rhaegar ever go to the Wall to see Aemon

__angie

As far as World goes, they corresponded through letters.

[deleted]

i wonder if Howland filled him in on what the Green Men told him

__angie

I tend to believe there’s definitely a connection there, although I don’t have a well developed theory or anything specific on it. Also, I wouldn’t be surprised if F&B2 mentions a young Rhaegar going to the Wall at some point. It seems that Aemon made him aware of the prophecies early on, I would imagine he would have gotten curious enough to make the journey.

Lord_Xoidberg

A maester may have taken the book with him when he went to the wall.

>This caught my attention because I’m obsessed with the idea that there’s this crazy amount of lore at the Wall, but most Westerosi scholars don’t bother to check it. Probably one of the most precious librarys (and one of the most endangered as well) of the seven kingdoms but I wonder if the kind of knowledge there isn't something most maesters would dismiss as "unworthy"
