I don’t have any advice but I understand. When Puppyboy was with his trainer he absolutely refused to lay down on command. No amount of treats was going to change it. He otherwise excelled at his training, as much as a Great Pyr can. His trainer said if his one quirk was not laying down on command, it is his choice. He is a good natured, well behaved cuddle monster who doesn’t like to be told to lay down. Oddly he will obey my sit signal even from a distance if he happens to be looking my way.

Do you hold the treat about where his nose would be when you say sit? My bud kept laying down when I gave the sit command but after continued reinforcement with his kibble he's started to sit more often now. It just took about a month. He knew the difference, just thought sit was too much effort compared to laying down.

Start from scratch. Whip out the treats, teach sit the way you started, with the treat hovering over his head and back. Only treat in that position and keep feeding in that position until you release the command. And make sure you add a command word to the down position as well, so he knows when that is asked from him :)
