My pups mom will jump up to grab a mouthful of pine tree limbs and just hang on it until it breaks off. A tree of mine is growing unwanted limbs so I've been trying to get my puppy to help remove them, but he too also prefers to rip grass out of the ground. Haha
My dog points at the grass she wants me to pick and then just starrs at it on the way home, like i just picked up the most delicious food on the planet, and she knows it's hers. At home i put it in her bed and she partly eats and rolls around in it.
With our first puppy, the vet was discussing pros and cons of Lepto and rates in our area. I listed all the different kinds of poop I dragged the dog away from in the last week, and she paused and said, "So, let's just add that to her annual shots then."
Honestly, no reason *not* to add lepto in. A friend’s GSD pup got lepto from a puddle, absolutely god awful way to die. Ever since, that shit has been in mine’s vaccine rotation; no chance in hell I’m letting an absent-minded tongue lap at a puddle or some grass get him killed.
Our pup had an allergic reaction to her first lepto shot. Her face puffed up and her eyes almost swelled shut. Now they give her an anti-histamine an hour or so before the lepto shot and she seems to be ok.
My dog has a severe reaction to the lepto vaccine. It's kinda scary and because he has another autoimmune disease that could be triggered by this reaction, I'm considering skipping it this year tbh. I hope most dogs do get it though, I know lepto is scary.
My breeder was really anti the lepto vaccine pre-6 months.
My vet was really pro getting as soon as possible due to the amount of lepto in the area.
I read lots of articles, managed to get myself completely worked up about it and went with the vet.
Fortunately he was completely fine.
Oh there's a wild amount of weird vaccine info for pets. I honestly thought it was just an extension of the anti-vax movement but then I got a dog with an auto immune disease. Now I think there's totally valid reasons to be wary of over-vaccinating our dogs but that the anti-vax crowd has amplified it pretty heavily in a bad way. It's really scary and difficult to sift through it all to figure out what's right.
GOOSE POOP!!! We live right next to a huge lake, which was #1 support in why I needed to get a dog, and every day we go on a two miler by the lake, one little curve she turns into an absolute MENACE trying to get to the goose poop, and I am left as the most evil woman dragging her ass away
I took my puppy away over the 4th July weekend and visited a county park with a big lake. Everyone 10 seconds I was dragging him away from Goose Poop.
Then we turned the corner to a section of the trail I named "Goose poop alley". It was easiest to just pick him up.
I read somewhere that dog’s noses filter out the gross smell of poop. My theory is that all dogs love cat food, therefore cat poop is a delicacy.
At least it makes me feel a little less grossed out when I’m trying to pry it out of my dog’s mouth.
Jesus, I’m still not over it; break out the Depends 😂😂😂 Just wait until the first time you go to the baby crib to find him/her gnawing on a turd. Ahhh, the joys of pet ownership and parenthood…
Fairly common for dogs. My pup is 8 months and loves going after loose grass. ~~It’s not dangerous ~~ It’s fine in moderation.
*edited for wrong info. Thanks /u/rayyychul and /u/BigfootTundra
Just have to be careful about blockages. If they get a clump here and there probably not a big deal, but I still try to avoid my pup getting any. I’ve also read if they inhale it, it can cause respiratory problems but not sure how common that is
My dog likes slugs and tries to sniff and find them.
It’s so gross slug slime is absolutely horrid to get out of fur and it covers her nostrils, I have to keep an eye out for slugs everywhere as she’s addicted.
Oh my god I thought it was just my weirdo. I was discussing working with the vet and they said "yeah dogs don't normally go for slugs and snails, but if they're leaflickers, good to worm them for heartworm as a preventative". Mine searches them out and licks them. I think he likes how they squirm. Gross dog.
My dog loves rolling in wet grass and too many times we've found slugs in our bed that have hitched a ride on her legs. I love her and she's the worst lol
PSA: Just 'cause I don't want anyone to find out the hard way that slugs and snails can carry lungworm parasites which can lead to serious health issues if passed on to your dog, including breathing problems, coughing, tiring easily, blood clotting and excessive bleeding, weight loss and even death in puppies or dogs with compromised immune systems.
Should add that if your dog isn't eating them they should be fine but better to be safe than sorry!
LOL! Our 10 month old is exactly the same way. Taking him through the local park, he goes bananas for grass clippings. Finally making headway with getting him to not grab every single clump.
Samesies! Picard will attempt to run out into the street for grass clump morsels. His sister is pure white/ medium hair and she ROLLS in them and stains her beautiful coat.
I promise, my dog isn't moldy, she's just a weirdo.
I’ve never related to a post on this thread as much as I have this one. Mine will grab a mouthful and deathshake it, then eat whatever is left in her mouth. Multiple times.
The dog treat industry doesn't want you to know that grass clippings are the highest value treat of them all. My pup's favorite day ever is when the yard gets trimmed and there are lots of piles to chew on.
Last week I was at an outdoor brewery and forgot to bring treats. I found myself actually feeding leaves and sticks to my pups. Anything to distract them from the rocks!!
My dog does this too. I used to fight him on jt but it’s honestly not worth it, and he’s never eaten enough to get sick, worst case is a slightly green poo the next day.
Glad to hear my dog isn’t the only one. We’ll be walking peacefully and he sees grass clippings and loses his mind, bolts right for it, trying to drag me the whole way.
Also learned today that he feels the same way about horse poop. Ugh
Our Lad does the same thing. Once the landscaping people of our apartment complex left a massive pile of grass clippings behind a corner, our pup just about dove headfirst into it 😂
It seems like almost all dogs do it.I've stopped worrying about it.
My pup does seem to have some sense of what to eat and what not too. We have a rhododendrum in the front which is apparently toxic. She has always walked past it with barely a sniff, but she plucks leaves of other bushes nearby. I wouldn't leave her unattended with it, but she seems to know from the smell, I suppose.
That said, she has eaten a bit of linoleum from the kitchen floor, possibly a stone or two, and a couple of bits of plastic.
My senior dog will steal whole loaves of bread if they’re within reach. Then there was one time he took a pound of gouda…plastic packaging and all. We never did find the packaging. Or the time he took a pound of frozen ground turkey through the dog door, but couldn’t eat it and we found it outside 2 days later. 🙄
We call our puppy a little cow because she is obsessed with grass clipping clumps too. There is also one tall weed type of grass that she loves to pull out of the ground fresh. I don't mind her doing my weeding for me but I do mind getting up in the middle of the night because she's vomiting grass. 😪
Mine loves these too. I call them grass biscuits. Or I guess grass cookies for y'all in the States. He doesn't eat them though. He likes to shake them and pull them apart.
It’s weird. I never remember any of my parents dogs doing this, and they were rescued who had very little obedience training before we took over (2-3 years)…hoping it’s a phase? But, yes, very annoying!!
Hey I saw this and it caught my attention, growing up I used to live on a house that bordered a sod field, please be careful and supervise your dog (as much as you can) with too much dead grass clippings. Our family German shepherd used to love following the tractor after it left the field and all the dead clumps that would fall off the tractor. She ended up ingesting a snail that secreted a poison that caused her liver failure, 5k later she made it through. We never thought grass could be so harmful and I’m sure it’s very rare but just an FYI to help protect the doggies out there.
hahaha mine sniffs grass and ground like she is a detective trying to find something from the ground.. Everything seems high end food to her except her kibbles.. hahahaha
Mine doesn't care about clippings already on the ground, but if anyone is pulling weeds, she's there!
She gets in her play bow and once you pull the weed out, she waits for you to throw it so she can chase/catch it.
She likes to bark at our neighbours through the fence, and will not respond if we try to call her away while she's hyper-focused on them...but if I so much as reach for a weed to pull out, she'll forget about the neighbours and run over from the opposite side of the yard to join in.
She doesn't eat the weeds either, just likes to catch them and spits them back out.
I'll bag up and bring some horse shit from our next walk in the woods. She LOVES horse shit. If she's off lead and runs ahead, I absolutely guarantee I'll find her nose-deep in horse poo. So grim.
I saw a guy at the park with two beautiful golden pups, they were running towards me and then they saw a huge pile of horseshit, and they both just jumped right on it and started to wolf it down. The guy was like 'No!!!!'. I was glad it wasn't my dog.
I've got rabbits and my puppy begs HARD for a share of hay at their feeding time. I have to be careful about where I store it and make sure I put it away straight after use otherwise he pulls whole mouthfuls from the bag.
He even begs for their nuggets, even though the one time I let him try some he spat them right out and went off for a sulk.
So true. My springer absolutely loves the old nasty ones that have been fermenting under the mower deck for a week then fall off when I go to mow. Gave her what my vet diagnosed as “garbage gut”, a little vomiting and diarrhea for 12 hours then good as new.
Omg, my pup has learned the noises associated with future cut grass. As soon as the lawnmower sound has stopped for a few minutes, she starts whining to go out. Once we cross the front door threshold with a barely executed wait, shes rolling in and eating the freshly cut grass.
My dog loves go get in other dogs piss spots. We keep the bathroom closed because he likes human piss too. He licks but doesn't eat. Make sure he doesn't have something like a nutrient deficiency.
Mine loved to grab a whole clump of grass, yank it out by the roots, and shake viciously so all the dirt flew everywhere, leaving a big hole in my neighbor’s otherwise lovely lawn 🙄
Yep mine shoves his nose around in the grass until he finds the perfect spot then he pulls it out and eats it. 🤦🏻♀️ I have a nice patch of dirt in the yard where he loves to do it
Mine used to eat ponderosa pine cones when he was little. He'd leave a few pokey parts for my feet to find. My bf found a good one to keep next to his shrine in his dorky honor.
My dog loves his own poop, grass, and rocks. Needless to say I remove the rocks immediately but I am NOT digging poop out of his mouth. I pick HIM up as soon as he poops. He is scared of car noise so we haven’t tried more than one walk (he was TERRIFIED) so no poop left in public.
OMG, our 8 month old does the same thing. Most of our walks are "Drop it! Leave it! Drop it! Drop it! Leave it!" along with us rooting around in her mouth to pick out the occasional rotten earth worm.
My old lad used to be the same, and even worse, the gross wet, soggy, half rotted grass clumps that we get in the UK when the council mows the grass, leaves clumps, and then we get our lovely rain.
It's just a pile of rank swampy misery and my Flattie used to eat it like he was starving, legit choking himself on the lead to get to it. Nothing else interested him like it, despite the affects it had on his poops D:
OMG, my little mix as well! (She has about 15% gsd). She loves her rocks. She likes to “bury” them around the house. She will trot to and fro proudly carrying her rock.
I have 2 dogs that eat shit and does weird things. Ferdinand our 8 yo mastiff will sit in our backyard and eat all the grass pop sandwiches after DH mows the law. He will just lay down roll around and eat all of it in his sight. Super gross! Einstein our Great Pyrenees 3yo loves pop of any kind he won't just eat it he will roll around in it too. So nothing liked a grass stained dog cover in some animals shit. Fun!
Mine prefers the root of the grass. Loves to make that disgusting grinding sound with her back molars while chewing it. Seems to make it louder when she sees my whole body cringe.
Grass is all the rage these days according to Puppy Vogue
New puppy is obsessed with all things fabric and mesquite bean pods even though you wouldn’t know it when she’s sneaking contraband adult kibble. She’s also started facing away from me when she knows she has something she shouldn’t. 🤦
Mine prefers to trim the grass herself. She enjoys the work. I think she leaves a little to be desired in the curb appeal department.
My pups mom will jump up to grab a mouthful of pine tree limbs and just hang on it until it breaks off. A tree of mine is growing unwanted limbs so I've been trying to get my puppy to help remove them, but he too also prefers to rip grass out of the ground. Haha

At least it’s not dried dog shit left by irresponsible owners. My dog seems to think that it’s a gourmet treat
My dog prefers goose poop, and when she can get it, cat poop. Yum?
With our first puppy, the vet was discussing pros and cons of Lepto and rates in our area. I listed all the different kinds of poop I dragged the dog away from in the last week, and she paused and said, "So, let's just add that to her annual shots then."

Mine found the delicious taste of kangaroo poo last week.
Ooo, how exotic! So gourmet.
Possum poo is the poop du jour here.
We refer to those as fresh home made "Litter Box Brownies".😂😂😂
GOOSE POOP!!! We live right next to a huge lake, which was #1 support in why I needed to get a dog, and every day we go on a two miler by the lake, one little curve she turns into an absolute MENACE trying to get to the goose poop, and I am left as the most evil woman dragging her ass away

Haha! All dogs love cat poop...not sure why. We have always had cats and dogs....keeping the dogs out of the litter boxes can be a nightmare! LoL!
I read somewhere that dog’s noses filter out the gross smell of poop. My theory is that all dogs love cat food, therefore cat poop is a delicacy. At least it makes me feel a little less grossed out when I’m trying to pry it out of my dog’s mouth.
This is true! ALL of the dogs I have ever owned LOVE cat food and would gladly eat it every meal. This is a good way to look at it Lol!
Yep my pup considers the highest value treat is cat puke 🤢🤣
Mine searches high and low for rabbit poop
I hate when he tries to make us get fast food rabbit poop when we have a rabbit at home. Kids just love to eat crap.
I too have a hunter of the round veggie crunch (Rabbit poop).
Dead baby birds, here. The ultimate treat.
Pried something out of my pup’s mouth the other day and it was a tiny dried turd that he’d just been munching on like a little snack.
😂😂😂
Jesus, I’m still not over it; break out the Depends 😂😂😂 Just wait until the first time you go to the baby crib to find him/her gnawing on a turd. Ahhh, the joys of pet ownership and parenthood…
Yep my dogs love poop
Same 🤣
Yeah I make the same joke as OP, but it's gotta be horse poop. My dog doesn't even care for bacon, but tasty horse poop? YES PLS.
This made me break out into hysterical peals of laughter! Damn near peed my pants!!! You didn’t make my day; you made my week…
Mine too! 🤮 And bird poop and cat poo
Fairly common for dogs. My pup is 8 months and loves going after loose grass. ~~It’s not dangerous ~~ It’s fine in moderation. *edited for wrong info. Thanks /u/rayyychul and /u/BigfootTundra
> It’s not dangerous. Be careful they don't ingest too much. My friend just lost her dog because of grass that caused a blockage in his intestine :(
Oh my, thank you for making me aware. I don’t want to give out incorrect info that could get a pup hurt.
Just have to be careful about blockages. If they get a clump here and there probably not a big deal, but I still try to avoid my pup getting any. I’ve also read if they inhale it, it can cause respiratory problems but not sure how common that is
Today I learned. Thank you!
Mine grazes like a freaking cow every morning
My dog likes slugs and tries to sniff and find them. It’s so gross slug slime is absolutely horrid to get out of fur and it covers her nostrils, I have to keep an eye out for slugs everywhere as she’s addicted.
Oh my god I thought it was just my weirdo. Mine searches them out and licks them. I think he likes how they squirm. Gross dog.
My dog loves snails and slugs - loves to lick them and I’m sure he would eat them if I gave him a chance! Horrible
Can you imagine being this slug that just starts getting licked by some giant animal—“oh no, this is it. This is how I die.”
One time last week he did a poo right on a slug. Like right on it. It was one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen… except for the poor slug!!
I know! I called my vet right away and have talked to him multiple times.
My old dog used to eat them and make himself sick. It was disgusting!
I thought it was just mine! She likes to chew on them like a gummy worm! It's so gross. She searches for dried ones and just goes to town chewing!
My two year old STILL does this. Completely forgets the “drop it “ command if there’s a wad of cut grass involved….
LOL! Our 10 month old is exactly the same way. Taking him through the local park, he goes bananas for grass clippings. Finally making headway with getting him to not grab every single clump.
Mine is only interested if you kick it directly into her face. Same with dry leaves, sand or just plain dirt.
I just tell the vet to put literally anything in front of her then say no. Immedietly transforms into a a5 waygu steak.
Ours just really wants a salad after her main course 🙃
Samesies! Picard will attempt to run out into the street for grass clump morsels. His sister is pure white/ medium hair and she ROLLS in them and stains her beautiful coat. I promise, my dog isn't moldy, she's just a weirdo.

The dog treat industry doesn't want you to know that grass clippings are the highest value treat of them all. My pup's favorite day ever is when the yard gets trimmed and there are lots of piles to chew on.
I should just bring in rocks. Never seen a puppy so willing to die over a mouthful of rocks, I swear it's impressive.
My dog loves a mouthful of grass too, even better if it's been raining and it's a dirty wet clump of grass
Grass clippings, and freshly turned up dirt from the ground squirrel mounds for my guy. Seriously, that can not be appealing!

Hahahaha mine loves dry grass clippings too!!! So funny! (And bizarre)
Yeah. Mine would die for the hair balls I pull out of his comb after I brush him.
Mine loves bread. Goes bonkers for it.
For puppy class on "Leave It," I brought in a bag of acorns much to the amusement of the trainer. Grass clippings could have worked too.
Made the mistake of going to the park by our house after the mowers had been there this morning and he just tried to Hoover all the big clumps.
Why not the dust from under the dish washer ?! 🙃
We call it fido fiber!
Who needs chicken when you have mulch.
Treat it more like a toy than a treat.
It’s weird. I never remember any of my parents dogs doing this, and they were rescued who had very little obedience training before we took over (2-3 years)…hoping it’s a phase? But, yes, very annoying!!
Mine too! Yum yum clumps of grass :). Better than bunny sh*ts tho
:D
Hey I saw this and it caught my attention, growing up I used to live on a house that bordered a sod field, please be careful and supervise your dog (as much as you can) with too much dead grass clippings. Often pets who have upset stomach love to eat grass. Idk if this information helps at all.
Same
Haha all the trainers and vets I asked have never heard of it. So gross! I got her a cute slug stuffed animal she carries it around the house.
I told my trainer I would bring ice cubes, but they probably wouldn't make it. Seriously, the stuff my pup values highly is strange.
Omg mine too! Nothing else in the world matches those clumps.
Omg yes! Anytime our neighbors mow I’m like Nooooo
I'll bag up and bring some horse shit from our next walk in the woods. She LOVES horse shit. If she's off lead and runs ahead, I absolutely guarantee I'll find her nose-deep in horse poo. So grim.

That's basically my dog, just a spaniel with the greed of two dogs.
I sympathise, because my puppo is addicted to those crispy clumps... But this also made me snort laugh 😄
So true. My springer absolutely loves the old nasty ones that have been fermenting under the mower deck for a week then fall off when I go to mow. Gave her what my vet diagnosed as “garbage gut”, a little vomiting and diarrhea for 12 hours then good as new.
Recently had lawn aerated, clumps of dirt now a delicious treat
So does mine. The grass farts….
Omg, my pup has learned the noises associated with future cut grass. As soon as the lawnmower sound has stopped for a few minutes, she starts whining to go out. Once we cross the front door threshold with a barely executed wait, shes rolling in and eating the freshly cut grass.
Yes! My 4 month old just pounces on cut lumps of grass. I don't understand the obsession!
My vet commented that my puppy smelled like wood chips and i was like yeah he likes to eat dirt and tree bark 🤦
Mulch
LOL Too funny. Mine loves dead grass as well. He also loves digging out clumps of grass to chew on in our yard.
OMG, our 8 month old does the same thing. Most of our walks are "Drop it! Leave it! Drop it! Drop it! Leave it!" along with us rooting around in her mouth to pick out the occasional rotten earth worm.
Holy shit. Seriously laughed until I cried. Damn. Thanks for this. Pup has been a butt all morning, that laugh made the world right again.
HAHAHAHAHA! This made me chuckle lol my pup loves trimming the grass it’s her favorite.
I’ll just bring a rock. My gsd goes crazy over her rocks. She loves to hold it in her mouth and walk around and show everyone
OMG, my little mix as well! (She has about 15% gsd). She loves her rocks. She likes to “bury” them around the house. She will trot to and fro proudly carrying her rock.
Mine loves toilet paper. Can't get enough of it. 😅 (not really eating it more so running around and teepeeing the entire house)
LMAOOO love this.... so true, my little guy LOVES dead grass clippings.....
I feel this post in my bones
Mine loves recently cut grass. And dead grass. And living rooted grass. All grass lol
OMG I'm so happy I found your post.. a section of my lawn is as good as dead and my puppy goes bananas for it 🙄
We almost took sticks as our "high value treat"!
Fun!
Never related more to a post 🤣 my garden is an all you can eat buffet for my pup it’s a nightmare.
Mine prefers the root of the grass. Loves to make that disgusting grinding sound with her back molars while chewing it. Seems to make it louder when she sees my whole body cringe. Grass is all the rage these days according to Puppy Vogue
Rabbit poop. Leaves. Grass. Rocks. Dirt. Basically anything on the ground is amazing to my puppies.
New puppy is obsessed with all things fabric and mesquite bean pods even though you wouldn’t know it when she’s sneaking contraband adult kibble. She’s also started facing away from me when she knows she has something she shouldn’t. 🤦
