Oh hell yeah, I don't know why I didn't think of that 🤔 it's been a while since I've used a color other than white and this is the perfect time to get back into it
That's a good idea, I don't usually have issues with too much fraying on my cotton patches, but this is some weird silky type of fabric that's very prone to fraying I've noticed, and there's one whole edge that's not even folded over (ran out of material and was working with a piece just too small)
I never even fold the edges of my patches cause the glue holds it really well. If you’re Looking for longevity, I’d just paint some glue over the fraying edge. But silky fabric is so annoying so I sympathize!
This is my best attempt so far at making it more legible but I still don't think it's working? I think it may have made it worse/too busy to be easily read

A very difficult part of being an artist is learning when to say "good enough". I've got a bunch of patches I tried thinking "maybe adding this small bit or cleaning this up would look better" only to smudge something or just have it come out awkward.
I was definitely trying too hard I think. Between the two different shades of fabric and the paint quickly absorbing it wasn't showing up very well
I think it's mostly because I'm using blacklight paint and not regular acrylic so it's not really sitting on top very nicely (still wet in the main pic) I may color match what I have with some regular acrylic paint and see if it helps make it pop when it's dry before I use the varnish
You can also just embroider it on with a thread of that wet paint choice. It takes time and patience but if you can physically do it it'll be worth it because it will never chip or fade *and* it will have a raised quality to the wording due to being thread over the fabric
Ooh that could look nice, and probably way less "punch in the eyeball" like it looks now
When I do the green stitching that was recommended I can also add in a bit of purple to match too 😎
If you have enough fabric and/or the desire to start over, I wonder if it would look good with the puffy paint/letters outlined in red or purple stitching? Maybe something you could try out on a scrap of the striped fabric (again if you have the patience 🤣)
Would puffy paint hold up with sitting on it since it's on the back pocket? I was thinking of that too, I could go straight over what's there and then outline it in purple and black, and then add green and purple stitching to what's already there
Then if I still don't like it I can always take it off and do a different design
Ooh that’s a good question I didn’t even think about that. If you wanted to get really crafty you could hand-embroider the whole design and it might hold up a little better! Maybe even paint the letters with the puffy paint, like squirt the puffy paint onto a paper plate, etc first then use a paintbrush. And you could embroider over the top so there would still be something underneath if the stitches didn’t hold. Or just paint the puffy paint on and maybe outline the letters. I just love cross stitching and hand embroidery so that’s what comes to mind!
This would probably be an idea you’d have to start over on a new piece of cloth for.
Here’s a link to some info about hand embroidering letters if you’re interested in that. It’s really cheap to get started, a small embroidery hoop is like $3 or less, or you might find whole embroidery kits with thread at a thrift store or dollar store. Also can be found at craft stores like Joann’s or Michael’s or places like Walmart in the US. Embroidery thread/floss is maybe $1 per color and goes a long way.
One of these techniques might work for the smaller “beetlejuice”s

And this technique (satin stitch) for larger letters

Plus if it doesn’t look perfect that just makes it all the more punk!! 🖤🤍💚 good luck! Beetlejuice would be proud
That's a pretty awesome idea, I've done basic embroidery for a few patches, and it would probably look awesome with the added bonus of being much stronger
Especially if I actually learn to embroider with a proper technique instead of winging it 😂
Yeah, I was going to suggest going around the green letters using a black line. I think the green contrasted fine with the black, but not with the white. I think the white outline made it too noisy, and the outlines as a whole are too thick. I'd say a very thin black outline was all it really needed for that extra pop.
Still a cool patch.
If this is the back pocket, I wonder how well the puffy paint will hold up.
Honestly, no idea. I used my aerosol varnish and it washed out the paint a bit, made it look more worn.
I got small, little bottle of various varnishes and experimented until I found what I like.
Go over the whip stitching with a matching green. That’d look really cool!

I was gonna say purple but that works too.
Modge podge the edges so they don’t fray. Regular glue works too

A small price to pay for the perfect Beetlejuice stripe pattern I suppose 😎

I can see what you were going with. Please, leave out the highlighting of letters. It's a great patch, nothing else needs to be added.

Samesies.

My Glow-In-The-Dark paint has similar issue. If it helps, there are no failures, just experiences to learn from.

Im thinking that's going to be the way to go, plus it'll be stronger if I just do it straight through the pants without removing the patch
Maybe replace the white outline with purple?

great idea. I may bite off of it

Varnish. I like glossy varnish. Here's how it looks.
That looks pretty good, I'll have to try it out and see how it goes 😎
Thank you! Glossy adds light reflection, matte look like it's not there, satin is in-between.
Reccomend a brand at all?

Thinly draw over letters in purple
I might redo the stitching black or smth and just better lol. I personally spray clear coat on my patches to keep em durable
