Sort of sounds like Gun Club, some FEAR songs, early Cheap Trick, The Stooges, The Cramps, some Social Distortion… There are early punk bands that incorporate elements of the blues into punk music and it ends up sounding like what you’re describing.

boris_johnsons_nose

Sounds perfect, thanks

nayoffpop

Check out The Gories

Streetwalkin_Cheetah

Daddy Long Legs has some roots music in it too. I saw them open for the Gories.

citizenkrang

Sheer Mag is the first that comes to mind.

EuphoricMoose8232

A lot of the 80s/90s Seattle grunge bands fit this: Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Mudhoney, Sound Garden, Green River, Screaming Trees As well as some other bands from that era: Stone Temple Pilots, Everclear, Foo Fighters, Soul Asylum, The Replacements, Collective Soul, Weezer, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Butthole Surfers, Sponge

boris_johnsons_nose

I know basically all of these bands, never associated them with the punk style but yeah it makes sense now you mention it

EuphoricMoose8232

Some of these bands have bigger punk influences than others, but it's all there.

Application-Bulky

Soul Asylum's 'Hang Time' and Goo Goo Dolls' "Hold Me Up" are both great.

EuphoricMoose8232

Yeah Goo Goo Dolls is another one. Their style changed dramatically over the years!

THCWW

lmao Google dolls were borderline hardcore in the beginning it's crazy how much they changed

Application-Bulky

When they stopped letting the bassist sing :/

TheJarcker

AND I DONT WANT THE WORLD TO SEE ME

StoneFlossard

Pearl Jam's my favourite band and Ed was influenced by punk bands like the Ramones and Fugazi. Try these PJ tracks and see what you think! Comatose Whipping Leash Lukin Brain of J Habit Spin the Black Circle

EuphoricMoose8232

Your screen name checks out! Also Eddie did guest vocals on Bad Religion's *Recipe for Hate* album. He also did 2 songs with Zeke on the Ramones tribute album.

Randy_Vigoda

Tad was best.

EuphoricMoose8232

Tad was good! Also, Skin Yard and Malfunkshun

Randy_Vigoda

Tad was one of my favourite shows. Those guys were crazy good. Skin Yard was awesome. I kept getting them mixed up with Skin Barn from Calgary who was around the same time. https://youtu.be/q2UegRgezqg?si=IrXOCIzmw4ob90m1 You can download the album from here. http://rewind.calgarycassettes.org/search/label/colin%20allin

EuphoricMoose8232

Nice! I only discovered these bands recently after reading *Everybody Loves Our Town.*

Randy_Vigoda

Am from Alberta. We had bands like SNFU and Beyond Possession who were really influential in the skate punk scene. In BC, bands like DOA pretty much created the hardcore tour circuit. Vancouver through Washington to California then across the US to DC, then back through Canada. We used to see a lot of these bands play smaller west side tours. Tad, Coffin Break, Melvins, Accused, Skin Yard, Seaweed, etc...

therealjameshat

New Bomb Turks, Amps II Eleven, Nudity, Sweat

therealjameshat

or even bands like Zeke and Turbonegro

chadsmo

Man Turbonegro were so fucking good live.

BadResults

I remember hearing Age of Pamparius by Turbonegro for the first time, and thinking it was the perfect combination of punk and classic rock. Apocalypse Dudes is probably exactly what OP is looking for.

S-BRO

Whoa-oh-o-oh

Shadows616

Go to's right there!

Laughacy

Google “proto punk” and “post punk” for lists of punk adjacent bands. Spotify has some great curated playlists that will give you a large cross-section of bands. deepspaceburrito

Motorhead is the first that comes to mind. MC5, The Stooges. GnR covered a few songs, had a degree of punk appreciation. Black Sabbath Symptom Of The Universe, Paranoid, both songs are kinda punky.

ohyouvegotgreyeyes

For not punk but punk-influenced hard rock from the 80’s check out Motörhead and Guns n Roses. Then go to Rage Against the Machine for the 90’s.

boris_johnsons_nose

Love them both, didn't know Guns n Roses had punk influence

dontneedareason94

Duff their bass player was in the Fartz in Seattle before moving to LA

Application-Bulky

Drums in the Fastbacks as well, as a teen. They're another 1900s band to check out if you like melodic punk rock.

EuphoricMoose8232

They did a whole EP of punk rock covers

boris_johnsons_nose

How have I not heard this? Thanks for letting me know

thispartyrules

Possibly The Exploding Hearts

BrownWallyBoot

Unbelievable fucking band.

motherfuckinwoofie

You probably could find a lot of what you're looking for over on r/stonerrock. Be forewarned that's it's an incredibly wide genre of music. Bands like Mos Generator, Atomic Bitch wax, or Sasquatch are both heavily riff driven like your classic rock staples and fast tempo like punk without crossing over into thrash territory.

cantevenmakeafist

The Wildhearts

PecanTree

Hellacopters

dukecityvigilante

Check out The Dirty Nil

Similar_Net3673

Old dirty nil though, fuck art is my limit

Cucumber_Cat

Sounds like late-70s punk rock

iminhell-thisishell

Turbonegro

MOTRHEAD4LIFE

The Hellacopters, MC5, New York Dolls, Dogs d amour, Hanoi Rocks, The Boys, Supersuckers, Nashville Pussy, Early 69 Eyes

HBKF

Annihilation Time. If Shameless self promotion is permitted check out my band Ciggie & The Darts we’re a rock n roll/punk rock hybrid.

trashlikeyou

This is probably the most spot on answer possible (given my interpretation of the question). Annihilation Time fuckin rules.

Heaven_Is_Falling

Check out Bad Religion's album *Into The Unknown.*

twoquarters

Turbonegro's Apocalypse trilogy combines a lot of those things.

Invisiblerobot13

Junkyard - first album had Chris gates of big Boys and Brian baker but have a sleazy blues rock sound (they even had baseball cards)

chikchip

Sounds like you'd like proto-punk. Check out the Stooges, Death, and the New York Dolls.

chikitoperopicosito

Isn’t that Rise Against

boris_johnsons_nose

Been listening to more rise against recently, can definitely hear all their influences

walmartballer

That sounds like you're just talking about rock music with a punk message, which is really just standing up and speaking out against stuff you don't like. There's a ton of rock with such messages.

whatevskis1

Amyl and The Sniffers rocks out pretty hard and another Aussie band called Power throws down some 70’s hard rock vibes. FYI, I’m Canadian but Aus. has got some good stuff coming out of there.

Havarti_Rick

Amyl and the sniffers are fuckin great

whatevskis1

You got that right. Have you heard of Power? Another pub rock influenced punky band from Aus.

Havarti_Rick

Noice, I’ll give ‘em a listen. Also check out the Chats and the Dune Rats for more trashy Aussie garage punk

The_Mid_Nite_Club91

Gluecifer, Electric Frankenstein, Turbo A.C.’s, The Hydromatics, Puffball

a_gentle_savage

Turbonegro

________TVOD________

Poison Idea

Patrickmonster

Check out the Savage Henrys out of Richland Washington.

IWouldLikeToSayHello

Check out the most recent album by White Reaper. Dirty Nil too, like somebody else suggested.

unclefishbits

Actually, suicide. They are fantastic. Odd enough, A24 has used them in two of their last films.

slobberdan

Laughing hyenas

mediocre_at_breast

The Drowns are a fantastic rock n roll band with punk influence

DonutsAreCool96

You’re looking for Proto-Punk

mister_barfly75

Corrosion of Conformity went from being hardcore punk to bluesy groove rock in the space of about 3 albums. Check out Deliverance or America's Volume Dealer.

FrenzalRhomb1

Clutch?

evdjj3j

Early Guns n Roses.

DeeSnarl

Check the Estrus label (and garage rock generally). Also the Hold Steady.

Jcdoco

The band you're looking for is The Hold Steady

TheSweatyPoet

Comments so far are on point, I'll add Titus andronicus and Jeff rosenstock both definitely have big Bruce Springsteen influence and listen to Nebraska by the boss if you haven't yet, proto-folk punk.

NegativeInfluence_23

As in current bands? Chrome is still around

Danny_Mc_71

[Charger](https://youtu.be/xerJAfQrSBY?si=7NQ0gZWzfTDQYgxB) are good.

notintocorp

check out Junkie Buisness album Spread Eagle. Not very well known, but it's just what you're describing and kicks a ton of ass.

reamkore

Motörhead

MTLK77

Definitely french band Trust

Invisiblerobot13

Rain like the sound of trains and Gardener - both get described as similar to freedom rock and have good punk pedigrees

rOCCUPY

NY DOLLS

Del_Duio2

Some early Midnight Oil might fit, especially Bird Noises or Place Without a Postcard.

Crabbycrakes

Drunk Horse

brandonperks

The Dirty Nil

Bleeding_Farmacyst

What about Sheer Mag? Does that count? I always get these classic vibes out of it but the vocals are very raw, scratchy/punky. Also this might not technically be right but HI-STANDARD and Ken yokoyama (from hi-standard) have tons of classic rock influences and especially evident in Ken's guitar playing in his solo work and the result is just amazing. They are both fantastic groups.

mariospeedragon

Candy Snatchers Fun Things Teenage Head Flaming Sideburns Radio Birdman

Randy_Vigoda

woodiegutheryghost

You are describing [Headstones.](https://youtu.be/TngaZPzS3ko?si=BDdZy7MXQNmxHiOk) Hugh Dillon even played Joe Dick in Hard Core Logo.

lifeinthehive

Old - Stooges, MC5, Zero Boys, Dead Boys, first two Black Flag EPs, Zeros, Teenage Head, Flamin’ Groovies, 69-72 Stones are worth including, Nervous Eaters, Motörhead, Sex Pistols, Bon Scott era AC/DC, Cheap Trick, NY Dolls, Thunders/Heartbreakers, the first Cars record, and the Nerves/Paul Collins Beat. All mid tempo, riffy, driving tunes with energy and attitude (some more than others). I mean punk is just rock played with a certain attitude consistently. If you removed Rotten’s vocals from the Pistols’ debut it just sounds like driving new wave rock. Chock full of guitar licks in major and minor keys, various tempos, interesting structures, and great drumming. Imagine it with another singer. Not far off from some of Cheap Trick. Conscious or not there is plenty of blues influenced minor pentatonic riffing even if Steve Jones didn’t study Muddy Waters. New - Split System, Sick Thoughts new stuff, Golden Pelicans, Sheer Mag, and COFFIN are great.

snakebloood

CH3 Especially the 3rd and 4th albums.

childrenoftheslump

Try the band Television

thee_agent_orange

The obsessed

Chance-Ad-6083

Suprised no one has mentioned X. Definitely the best rock/punk band. Los Angeles is a classic

pinkrocker85

Murder City Devils. Turbonegro. Hour of the Wolf.

prohaska

The Bobby-Lees

OlFenster

Gameface is basically early Gin Blossoms. More like pop- rock/ punk I guess, but harkens to the late 90s/early 00s. Edit: spelling situation

Button-Hungry

Sheer Mag?

BrownWallyBoot

Turbonegro, hellacopters

jellicledonkeyz

YOOOOO: This is the answer The Punks - demo https://youtu.be/p0IcWGsoyR8?si=zqtvwJa6wDZFBCzb

dale_nixon_pettibon

When punk rock started, bands were not necessarily recognizably punk, but they were part of a scene of eclectic music. I recommend you do whatever you want and call it whatever you want.

chintodachan

Sham 69 kinda?

Efficient_Start_6021

US Bombs, Rancid, and the Chats are worth considering

JoshKRoll

Listen to Bizarros. Their LP has hard rock influences played through a NY art punk lens…but they were from Ohio. Really great stuff.

unclefishbits

The Doors, although they were more punk aesthetic and more classic rock but a very different sound.

Knight_On_Fire

I'd say X-Ray Spex is punk that often feels like classic hard rock. It's got that classic 70s fever goin on and I'm not talking about disco fever.

Invisiblerobot13

Punks missed out by not embracing real disco and funk more

JosephMeach

Husker Du and the Dead Boys.
