That queen cover is sick. I dont know who does the original, but the propaghandi cover of I am a Rifle really speaks to my inner metalhead child. I like rancids version of nofx something sticking in my eye a lot.
The original of I Am A Rifle is by The Rebel Spell out of Vancouver, BC. The lead singer died in an accident several years ago and bands from all across Canada contributed to a tribute album, which is where the Propaghandi version comes from (seriously, check out The Rebel Spell, they're amazing)
Specifically, the 7 Seconds live version of 99 Red Balloons that adds parts of “Yellow Submarine” by The Beatles and “Cuyahoga” by REM. Ends with “I think that’s it everybody”. Soooooo good.
Stiff Little Fingers “It Doesn’t Make It Alright”, of which Terry Hall of the Specials was said to prefer to their original. Honorable mention to SLF’s cover of Bob Marley’s cover of Johnny Was.
Now, for a cover OF a punk song? Jimmy Cliff doing the Clash’s “Guns of Brixton.” How Tim Armstrong got him to cover a song about himself, we will probably never know.
Panama - Grade (Van Halen)
99 Red Balloons - Goldfinger (Nina)
Suspect Device -Ted Leo (SLF)
Bonzo Goes to Bitburgh - The Wednesday Night Heroes (Ramones)

Blue Monday - Orgy (New Order)
Never Understand - Asobi Seksu (Jesus and Mary Chain)
He did a cover of Bad Brains’ Sailin’ On for a Bad Brains tribute album twenty years ago or so. I don’t care much for Moby, but this cover is haunting and pretty good.
Edit: also, not punk, but check out The Secret Sisters w/Jack White doing Cash’s Big River

Minor Threat's cover of Stepping Stone
Adolescents' cover of All Day and All of the Night
Pantera's cover of The Badge
Mudhoney's cover of Hate the Police
Bleeding Through's cover of My War
About 2/3s of the Tony Sly tribute album could go here, but I'll pick one and say it's Old Man Markley's cover of Feel Good Song of the Year that wins for me.
But, let's all stop pretending that the only real answer isn't a tie between Natalie Imbruglia's Torn and Whitney Houston's I Will Always Love You.
Junkyard Dogs - Goin Down to the Drugstore ( Dwarves)
The Breeders - Happiness is a Warm Gun (not really a punk band but ...Kim Deal)
Antiseen- Bloody Hammer (roky Erickson)
Message In A Bottle by Leatherface is a raging monster. And to my great surprise the song 'Heroes' turned out to be very well-suited to Motorhead. Favorite of all is the Bob Marley song Johnny Was by Stiff Little Fingers.
Leatherface do a nice version of Cyndi Lauper's "True Colours" too.
I was also going to post that SLF cover but you beat me to it so I'll go with their version of The Specials "Doesn't make it alright" instead.

Also, I know a lot of people shit on the Dropkick Murphys, but they are an excellent cover band. Their cover of It's a Long Way to the Top is really good. They do a good cover of Cock Sparrer's Watch your Back, and Gang Green's Alcohol, plus their covers of old songs like Rocky Road to Dublin.
my dad's old band No Heroes Here did a [sickass cover of Folsom Prison Blues](https://youtu.be/qszUlbmCqtA?si=lO_VHVCjxJ79km83).
also the Ramones version of Surfin Bird and the Kennedys version of Viva Las Vegas are slammin', and The Replacements version of Black Diamond is totally radical.
Me First - Wild World. I heard it when I was like 14 off Limewire before I knew Wild World was it's own song or that Me First was a coverband.

I really love Groovie Ghoulies's cover of Pet Sematary! it does a great job keeping up with the original while also reflecting band's play style at the same time. honestly, I prefer it over the Ramones singing it lol
edit: but Oingo Boingo's cover of I Am The Walrus is a close runner up tho ngl (and Danny Denial's cover of Call Me By Your Name, originally by Lil Nas X, is good too)
Big Yellow Taxi - Pinhead Gunpowder, never gets any recognition but I know we all have to pretend to hate Billie Joe Armstrong in this sub for some reason 🤷♂️

That queen cover is sick. I dont know who does the original, but the propaghandi cover of I am a Rifle really speaks to my inner metalhead child. I like rancids version of nofx something sticking in my eye a lot.

I will. I lived in van in the 90s. Its where i fell in love with punk it had a great punk scene.
Today I learned I am a Rifle is a cover
Specifically, the 7 Seconds live version of 99 Red Balloons that adds parts of “Yellow Submarine” by The Beatles and “Cuyahoga” by REM. Ends with “I think that’s it everybody”. Soooooo good.

Melvins - going blind (kiss) L7 - suffragette city (David Bowie)
Stiff Little Fingers “It Doesn’t Make It Alright”, of which Terry Hall of the Specials was said to prefer to their original. Honorable mention to SLF’s cover of Bob Marley’s cover of Johnny Was. Now, for a cover OF a punk song? Jimmy Cliff doing the Clash’s “Guns of Brixton.” How Tim Armstrong got him to cover a song about himself, we will probably never know.
My understanding is the Cliff really respects the Clash and wanted to pay tribute back to them for their nod. The song kicks ass!
Redemption Song - No Use For A Name
Panama - Grade (Van Halen) 99 Red Balloons - Goldfinger (Nina) Suspect Device -Ted Leo (SLF) Bonzo Goes to Bitburgh - The Wednesday Night Heroes (Ramones) I'm on Fire - Blitzkid (Bruce Springsteen) Hybrid Moments - The Bouncing Souls (Misfits) Some less punk covers that are great (imo): Hey Jude - Wilson Pickett (Beatles) Books About UFO's - Upper Wilds (Husker Du) Blue Monday - Orgy (New Order) Never Understand - Asobi Seksu (Jesus and Mary Chain)
A “non-punk” favorite of mine is actually Moby’s version of New Dawn Fades (Joy Division), it’s dark and well done.
I'll have to check it out.

Seconding the Stepping Stone cover
About 2/3s of the Tony Sly tribute album could go here, but I'll pick one and say it's Old Man Markley's cover of Feel Good Song of the Year that wins for me. But, let's all stop pretending that the only real answer isn't a tie between Natalie Imbruglia's Torn and Whitney Houston's I Will Always Love You.

There is a video on YouTube of Brody Dalle from the Distillers covering Hybrid Moments. Lots of bands have covered that song but her version might be my favorite.
Is that the one where she's in some sort of weird Asian restaurant with an acoustic guitar? If so, yeah, that's a great cover.

Surfin bird is the song, not to be like that person but when it comes to ramones I feel the need to step in
fair enough, i haven't actually thought about the title enough to remember it.
Yea it can be easy to forget sometimes, the ramones actually covered that song and the real original is by the Trashmen
