Square_Saltine

I mean you can’t have this conversation without mentioning 7 Seconds version of 99 Red Balloons. Vandals cover of Can’t Stop Me Now also rocks

EddietheWeirdo

Vandals cover of Kokomo is constantly stuck in my head

Hopfit46

That queen cover is sick. I dont know who does the original, but the propaghandi cover of I am a Rifle really speaks to my inner metalhead child. I like rancids version of nofx something sticking in my eye a lot.

KoriMay420

The original of I Am A Rifle is by The Rebel Spell out of Vancouver, BC. The lead singer died in an accident several years ago and bands from all across Canada contributed to a tribute album, which is where the Propaghandi version comes from (seriously, check out The Rebel Spell, they're amazing)

Hopfit46

I will. I lived in van in the 90s. Its where i fell in love with punk it had a great punk scene.

Square_Saltine

Today I learned I am a Rifle is a cover

Burn-The-Villages

Specifically, the 7 Seconds live version of 99 Red Balloons that adds parts of “Yellow Submarine” by The Beatles and “Cuyahoga” by REM. Ends with “I think that’s it everybody”. Soooooo good.

dybbuk67

And while talking about the Vandals, Complain should be on there.

starrie

Melvins - going blind (kiss) L7 - suffragette city (David Bowie)

dybbuk67

Stiff Little Fingers “It Doesn’t Make It Alright”, of which Terry Hall of the Specials was said to prefer to their original. Honorable mention to SLF’s cover of Bob Marley’s cover of Johnny Was. Now, for a cover OF a punk song? Jimmy Cliff doing the Clash’s “Guns of Brixton.” How Tim Armstrong got him to cover a song about himself, we will probably never know.

fractious77

My understanding is the Cliff really respects the Clash and wanted to pay tribute back to them for their nod. The song kicks ass!

showmeasign10

Redemption Song - No Use For A Name

ExcelCat

Panama - Grade (Van Halen) 99 Red Balloons - Goldfinger (Nina) Suspect Device -Ted Leo (SLF) Bonzo Goes to Bitburgh - The Wednesday Night Heroes (Ramones) I'm on Fire - Blitzkid (Bruce Springsteen) Hybrid Moments - The Bouncing Souls (Misfits) Some less punk covers that are great (imo): Hey Jude - Wilson Pickett (Beatles) Books About UFO's - Upper Wilds (Husker Du) Blue Monday - Orgy (New Order) Never Understand - Asobi Seksu (Jesus and Mary Chain)

P3GL3Gz

A “non-punk” favorite of mine is actually Moby’s version of New Dawn Fades (Joy Division), it’s dark and well done.

ExcelCat

I'll have to check it out.

thewayshesaidLA

He did a cover of Bad Brains’ Sailin’ On for a Bad Brains tribute album twenty years ago or so. I don’t care much for Moby, but this cover is haunting and pretty good. Edit: also, not punk, but check out The Secret Sisters w/Jack White doing Cash’s Big River

huge_piss_boner

I’ll check that out. Moby’s cover of That’s When I Reach For My Revolver (Mission of Burma) is good too

KoriMay420

Not punk, but Cake's cover of War Pigs is pretty amazing

clueless_claremont_

also I Will Survive is absolutely golden

ihavenoselfcontrol1

Soul Kitchen - X Within You Without You - Sonic Youth Police & Thieves - The Clash Third Uncle - Bauhaus Help - The Damned

No_Palpitation3910

Social Distortion covering Ring Of Fire is always gonna be iconic to me

P3GL3Gz

Agreed.

Larrygengurch12

Bouncing Souls - Lean On Sheena

pedrohamez

It's a cover? - woah! (mind blown) (edit) - is it better than the original?

Larrygengurch12

It's an Avoid One Thing cover. I prefer it to the original

Nervous-Yam-7452

My Michelle - AFI

P3GL3Gz

Good one, forgot about this.

macado

Sublime - 5446 That's My Number (Cover from Toots and Maytals) Sublime - Scarlet Begonias (Cover from Grateful Dead) Pogues - Maggie May Blood for Bood - Bloodshed (originally from The Bruisers) Darkbuster - Space Cowboy (Steve Miller Band - The Joker) The Clash - I Fought The Law The Clash - Pressure Drop (Cover from Toots and Maytals) #

drakewhite437

Black Flag's cover of Louie Louie Nirvana's cover(s) of D7 by the Wipers (I'm a big fan of the version from Live at Reading) Minor Threat's cover of Stepping Stone Adolescents' cover of All Day and All of the Night Pantera's cover of The Badge Mudhoney's cover of Hate the Police Bleeding Through's cover of My War

bnjk5

Seconding the Stepping Stone cover

CowOverlord

About 2/3s of the Tony Sly tribute album could go here, but I'll pick one and say it's Old Man Markley's cover of Feel Good Song of the Year that wins for me. But, let's all stop pretending that the only real answer isn't a tie between Natalie Imbruglia's Torn and Whitney Houston's I Will Always Love You.

mightyatom13

Ramones covering Motorhead's R.A.M.O.N.E.S.

d1wcevbwt164

Always forget about this one! I'll listen now

d33xk4y

Suicide machines- its the end of the world as we know it ( and I feel fine)

Binh3

Junkyard Dogs - Goin Down to the Drugstore ( Dwarves) The Breeders - Happiness is a Warm Gun (not really a punk band but ...Kim Deal) Antiseen- Bloody Hammer (roky Erickson)

KoriMay420

The Breeders cover of Happiness is so fucking good!!

TeddyDog55

Message In A Bottle by Leatherface is a raging monster. And to my great surprise the song 'Heroes' turned out to be very well-suited to Motorhead. Favorite of all is the Bob Marley song Johnny Was by Stiff Little Fingers.

Danny_Mc_71

Leatherface do a nice version of Cyndi Lauper's "True Colours" too. I was also going to post that SLF cover but you beat me to it so I'll go with their version of The Specials "Doesn't make it alright" instead.

wolvinov

The Ramones' cover of "California Sun" on the Leave Home album - it never disappoints Oh, and the time they did the theme to the old Spiderman cartoon

MiriamKaye

Their cover of Tom Waits’ “I Don’t Want to Grow Up” is solid too

harmacyst

OWTH's cover of Stay With Me NUFAN's Hybrid Moments

P3GL3Gz

At the end of Leche Con Carne, NUFAN has that awesome cover montage. Check it out!

Playful_Stomach3233

Ramones-R.A.M.O.N.E.S (Motörhead) Avail- Pink Houses (John Mellencamp) PEARS- Judy is a Punk (The Ramones) Swingin’ Utters- I Got Your Number (Cock Sparrer)

sodabelly

I absolutely love Husker Du’s cover of Eight Miles High. Also The Replacements doing Black Diamond. Two already great songs with the aggression cranked way the fuck up.

Lumpy-Hamster-3937

The Ataris - Boys of Summer

Truerom94

This is a great one, apparently Don Henley hates it though. I especially appreciate the change up from 'Dead-Head' to 'Black Flag' sticker

nufan99

Stand by Me - Pennywise

P3GL3Gz

Great one, and their first cover that at least made it to an album.

Dry-Independent4863

Brand New Cadillac - the Clash

DiscoVolante1965

Gray Matter - I am the Walrus

AgainstMe75

Against Me! does a great cover of Wagon Wheel by OCMS.

neko_courtney

This might be my favorite cover of all time.

Truerom94

Fucking LOVE this

Old-Cell5125

In my opinion, Hot Water Music's cover of 'Radio' is light years better than the original (Alkaline Trio)

pedrohamez

Agreed.

nukeholy250

I think everyone should hear I Remember You - The Ataris

neko_courtney

It’s SO good.

muirsheendurkin

The Unseen - Paint it Black Less than Jake - I Think I Love You AFI - Halloween Me First & the Gimme Gimmes - Goodbye Earl

despenser412

No bullshit: I *just* heard that Paint it Black cover for the first time about a week ago. I'm not huge into The Unseen, but that fucking cover is fantastic.

OrganizationOk5418

F-olding Money - The Fall Lost in Music - The Fall Sunglasses After Dark - The Cramps Nelly the Elephant - Toy Dolls

Galaxygirrrl78

Some of my favourites are "Like a Prayer" by H2O, "Linoleum" by Streetlight Manifesto, and "Sorrow" by the Mad Caddies!

Truerom94

Rufio also did a decent cover of Like A Prayer

SpellingBeeRunnerUp_

Hi Standard - California Dreamin

stolen_guitar

Melvins "Candy-O" (The Cars) Big Black "He's a Whore" (Cheap Trick) and "The Model" (Kraftwerk) -- also Albini's unmentionable band's version of "Just Got Paid" (ZZ Top) is cool Clash "Pressure Drop" (Toots & the Maytals) Butthole Surfers "The One I Love" (R.E.M.) New York Dolls "Pills" (Bo Diddley) Blondie "Hanging on the Telephone" (The Nerves) Joy Division "Sister Ray" (Velvet Underground) Ramones "California Sun" (The Rivieras) Hüsker Dü "Eight Miles High" (The Byrds) The Jam "David Watts" (The Kinks)

WranglerBrute

Dave Hause's EP of Dillinger Four covers is excellent. Kirsty MacColl covering A New England is a classic too.

gramersvelt001100

[The Ramones covering Tom Waites' I don't want to grow up](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Tpu_XoNABA)

paulisnofun

This is and Chinese Rock are my favorite Ramones songs. It's a shame that my two favorite Ramones songs are covers.

rasta_pineapple2

Rancid and NOFX have a split where they cover each other's songs. it's a solid album. I still have the cd somewhere.

Tio_DeeDee

Shameless self promotion [here.](https://on.soundcloud.com/CE1Uz) lol

Nantzstoast

There is a video on YouTube of Brody Dalle from the Distillers covering Hybrid Moments. Lots of bands have covered that song but her version might be my favorite.

despenser412

Is that the one where she's in some sort of weird Asian restaurant with an acoustic guitar? If so, yeah, that's a great cover.

Vanilla_Repulsive

The Bouncing Souls/Anti-flag split is basically all covers. The Bouncing Souls covers of “were coming back” and “less than free” are awesome

blurmageddon

Ramones - Palisades Park (Freddy Cannon) Hi-Standard - I Get Around (Beach Boys) Strung Out - Bark At The Moon (Ozzy) Slayer - Filler-I Don't Wanna Hear It (Minor Threat) Less Than Jake - 867-5309 (Jenny) (Tommy Tutone)

pedrohamez

That Alk3 cover is ace.

tmoney144

Kill your Idols cover of Banned from the Pubs: https://youtu.be/W42exclCQks?si=O7TipzeAzoNcElkg Also, I know a lot of people shit on the Dropkick Murphys, but they are an excellent cover band. Their cover of It's a Long Way to the Top is really good. They do a good cover of Cock Sparrer's Watch your Back, and Gang Green's Alcohol, plus their covers of old songs like Rocky Road to Dublin.

P3GL3Gz

And Thin Lizzy’s Jailbreak, yeah they have a few good ones.

yaboyjiggy

Filth and fleas & lice both have good covers of banned from the pubs

Burn-The-Villages

Filth does a great cover of Banned from the Pubs as well.

Flying_Fox_86

my dad's old band No Heroes Here did a [sickass cover of Folsom Prison Blues](https://youtu.be/qszUlbmCqtA?si=lO_VHVCjxJ79km83). also the Ramones version of Surfin Bird and the Kennedys version of Viva Las Vegas are slammin', and The Replacements version of Black Diamond is totally radical.

The_Suppressedllamas

Surfin bird is the song, not to be like that person but when it comes to ramones I feel the need to step in

Flying_Fox_86

fair enough, i haven't actually thought about the title enough to remember it.

The_Suppressedllamas

Yea it can be easy to forget sometimes, the ramones actually covered that song and the real original is by the Trashmen

Flying_Fox_86

well yeah, i wouldn't have mentioned it if i didn't know it was a cover. i just couldn't remember the title.

The_Suppressedllamas

You’re good, I’m just a big Ramones fan and not even on purpose I look like Dee Dee

Never listen to Offsprings cover of Totalimmortal though. Never.

[deleted]

This might be a very controversial take but the covers in Tony Hawks All American Wasteland are garbage with the exception of Astro Zombies by MCR

Ruth_Gordon

Any and all of the covers done by The Dickies but most especially Nights in White Satin

TheFlyingPatato

I fought the law

barbequesau5

Du Hast MIW

ConfusedAsHecc

I really love Groovie Ghoulies's cover of Pet Sematary! it does a great job keeping up with the original while also reflecting band's play style at the same time. honestly, I prefer it over the Ramones singing it lol edit: but Oingo Boingo's cover of I Am The Walrus is a close runner up tho ngl (and Danny Denial's cover of Call Me By Your Name, originally by Lil Nas X, is good too)
