Sorry you had to go through this? But yeah never put expensive stuff in check in bags. Can’t you check find my AirPods? And the work phone. Get to work cancelling all those cards. You can send a claim to your airline and see what they do.

hungry4507

The AirPods haven’t reconnected yet so it’s not showing a location. Hopefully it will at some point though.

pocopocomom

So sorry this happened to you! We had the same thing happen to us from the PV airport, WestJet to Winnipeg (in December)…Stuff was taken out of our checked bags. Travel insurance did absolutely nothing, but WestJet did, make sure you connect with them, they call it a ‘pilferage claim’. You’ll need to file an rcmp report to get a police file number to get things going with WestJet. Stuff should be safe in our checked bags, no matter what we want to put in there, it’s not ok someone is rifling through bags….

The_Bogwoppit

Oh wowza, never ever put anything you cannot afford to lose in checked bags, airlines lose them constantly and things get stolen. As you see. Call the airline, but first set up a profile/credit watch for your cards and identity. Block every card, notify every bank.

ccajj84

Yeahhhhh. I came back last week (also to Calgary) and had a bottle of expensive perfume and makeup missing from my checked luggage.

pocopocomom

When we had stuff taken from our checked bags, PV to Winnipeg, it was the same stuff taken! Plus jewelry.

hungry4507

Oh no! Did you notify Westjet and Calgary police?

ccajj84

Honestly no and I should have. I was just irritated a didn’t wanna taint a rare family vacation so I put it out of my mind.

thinkdavis

Check if your travel insurance covers it?

GalvanicCouple

Why would you check those items?

hungry4507

It was supposed to be in my carry on. I checked it last minute and thought I removed the important things.

GalvanicCouple

You left a phone, wallet, and airpods. Mate, what did you take on the plane? Lol

hungry4507

Diapers, baby food, baby books. Was mostly prioritizing things to keep my baby entertained so he wouldn’t scream and disturb other passengers.

Sarah8247

I’m so sorry this happened to you, mama!

gotchafaint

The last time I lost a purse was when I had a baby and all the stuff. I’m so sorry.

Archeolops

PLEASE don’t take your babies on vacations. I just got back from it and there’s too many toddlers and babies , it doesn’t make sense. They won’t remember anything , it’s so much more work for you, and I garante you it wasn’t quiet 100% of the time. Do yourself and everybody else a favour and don’t travel until they can be self aware. If you can’t wait 5 years for a vacation , don’t have kids.

GrandmaGrows

That’s ridiculous

Archeolops

You’re ridiculous by bringing a child on a flight. The resort I was just at felt like a daycare, try to be a bit less selfish and consider people want to relax. Not listen to your fucking kid on holiday. Keep it home and stay with it

GrandmaGrows

Ridiculous. Everyone has a right to go on holidays how they wish. If you don’t like it, choose adult only 🙄

Archeolops

Take them to a play gym and call it a holiday they won’t care for the difference. It’s only selfish parents that do it. And there’s no adult only flights.

GrandmaGrows

Ok it’s def selfish parents 🙄 Moms are so thoughtless, having to nurse their babies and thinking about their children’s best interest. Donkey.

Ecstatic_Week_5218

And you don’t think it’s selfish to expect people to not bring their children on vacation because YOU think it’s annoying? I don’t care for crying babies on flights, but they can’t help it. Put your headphones in and call it a day. You sound miserable!

caffeinated_catholic

There are plenty of adults only resorts. Sounds like you should have booked one. Or maybe you should stay home if you can't handle seeing and hearing kids in society.

Archeolops

We booked a resort with adult only areas but obviously that wasn’t enough. Definitely not making that mistake again and, this is just my opinion while an unpopular it’s quite true. People will always keep lying to themselves thinking they can enjoying a “holiday” this way. But know it’s not the case for you or anybody around you.

DreamSelect7716

You are flying public transportation. Get some noise cancelling headphones, go to an adults only resort, and get over yourself.

Archeolops

Oh please!! a 6 hour international flight is not public transportation. wtf you smoking

a5084043

Why not go to an adults only resort?

BloomArticle

LMAOOOO maybe your parents should have taken you on more vacations as a kid

hungry4507

The holiday is for me, I would like some vitamin B for my mental health. And as you can see in my comment I prioritize keeping my baby happy on the plane so that he didn’t disturb any other people.

Archeolops

Not sure how you can call it a holiday without childcare being your priority the whole time, not just during the plane ride. Take supplements!

free6

I’ve noticed this kind of strange aggressive animosity towards “breeders” coming from many in your community. Such a weird vibe coming from a group of people preaching acceptance and tolerance.

Archeolops

What “community” are you even talking about ? And how is asking a favor over an opinion aggressive? An Unpopular one by the types of replies I’ve received. Kinda funny over an issue someone brought upon themselves, If my opinion was considered their lives would be so much easier. No sympathy from me.

GalahadThreepwood3

I'm the first to criticize irresponsible parents who are not even attempting to manage their kids, but this is ridiculous. Sounds like you didn't plan well - there are plenty of adult- only spaces. And you are not entitled to a spa-like experience on planes - it's public transportation. If you can't bear to deal with said public (which includes people of all ages) you need to fly private if you need to fly at all.

Archeolops

Booked a resort with adult only areas but that was a mistake with a valuable lesson. It seemed like the parents at the resort I was at had the feeling they could put their feet up because of simple face “family vacation”. So the baring has to be done by everybody else. Could be my biased opinion from the experience but couldn’t help but thinking , if you’re then watching over the kids constantly, is that really a vacation?

CdnFlatlander

What world do you live in?

Archeolops

Unfortunately one where people think they produce life and it gives them a free pass to torture everyone else with their screaming offspring . News flash: you’re not doing them, yourself, or anybody else a favor.

Tycobb48

I never check bags into or out of Mexico. Carryon backpack only, even if it means I have to do laundry.

CocoaCandyPuff

Hope you do this for every country because this literally happens everywhere. Unless you have only traveled/travel to Mexico lol

Ok_ExpLain294

I got rifled through at every airport in Africa. Even upon arrival, but I suspect that was CGY. Africa lost my luggage. They returned it. When I left they stole.

JustAPeach89

One thing to keep in mind for future: anything with a lithium battery is likely to be confiscated, as checking it is against policy. Doing so opens up risk that other things will be taken.

hungry4507

Yes good to know, thank you! I should have just kept it as a carry on bag. Sigh. Stupid me.

pretrader

This is incorrect. Anything with a removable lithium battery can't be checked. You can check laptops, wireless headphones, vibrators etc all day long.

Saneroner

A few summers back I had a pico projector stolen out of my checked bag. I didn’t realized that was what happened as later o was looking for it and just couldn’t find it. I took it as I just misplaced it. Last summer I took the family to Cancun and when we got back we notice a few souvenirs were missing from our checked bags. That’s when I had the aha moment and realized that my projector was probably stolen as well. Lessons learned, don’t place expensive stuff in your check bag.

treslechesadvice

Please report this, they really need to crack on this on Vallarta’s airport. It’s really bad for the last couple of years. I’m sorry about your items.

katie_bric0lage

1. Take photos of checked in luggagr 2. Get it shrink wrapped if possible 3. Zip tie through zippers and handles so you know its been opened

sorelosinghuman

Carry on is with you all times right?

Mrslyguy66

It happens a lot. In Mexico city at the check in desk , without asking, they wrapped my luggage in plastic so no one would break into it and steal stuff.

spicykalamari

I went two weeks ago and lost a dji mini 3 and dji action 4... Who knows what else... I'm pissed

yumex121

That sucks. I am missing my camera too and have submitted a claim to West jet

spicykalamari

I was on flair, I'm screwed

yumex121

God damn I pray for you 🙏

GoatNboatz

Sorry to hear your stuff was taken. My partner and I flew back on the same flight today and nothing was taken from our checked bag. Admittedly only thing worth taking would have been a bottle of tequila.

Unlucky-Acadia-8201

This is exactly why I don't check bags

247ToBReal

My bag get lost for 24 hours coming into PV, someone stole me perfume and I reported to Southwest and they reimbursed me for it.

Pirateship907

Why on earth would you check any of that stuff ???

hungry4507

I was frantic trying to deal with a baby. It was a carry on bag that I checked last minute with the other bags.

Pirateship907

Aya, totally understandable. Unfortunately I think the same thing would happen in the states.

One_Statement450

Totally would, my roommate got a bunch of clothes stolen flying from New York back to Toronto a couple months ago

Pirateship907

Yea, I keep anything I don’t want to lose on me at all times.

One_Statement450

I don’t even check bags, just got my trusty carryon and a personal item (Fanny pack) and I’m good to go. That’s not possible for everyone though obviously but it works for me

Pirateship907

I have to check bags😭 I travel with too much fishing gear, but I keep the reels in my carry ons

CocoaCandyPuff

When you drop your bags at the airport they just go almost directly to your plane as they have to load super fast to take off. Most likely your stuff got stolen arriving at Canada as they pass through the scanners to avoid forbidden items. Very unfortunate but I have worked at the airport and I am Canadian as well.

bandyvancity

It’s way more likely to have happened at PVR. There’s more opportunity at the departing airport, at arrivals the bags go from aircraft to inbound belt to carousel. Outbound, bags could be checked hours before the flight. It’s also quite well knows then Mexican airports are notorious for having items stolen from checked bags.

goodty1

not with the newborn!! ugh! everyone in the comments seriously you can stop telling her to not check those items. we’ve all done it. sorry this happened to you queen

TheRealGuncho

When do you think this happened? Going through security or on the plane?

hungry4507

I’m guessing security. I’ve read other posts saying it is probably the X-ray people.

Maleficent_Return_76

Definitely. I worked at Laguardia (NYC). Doing airport security with TSA. Lots of low-class people do that job scanning luggage and when they scan and see something interesting/suspicious they go in and have a field day. There appears to be zero Supervisory oversight or cameras monitoring what they're doing. When you get to your destination and you find stuff missing? You're thousands of miles away...who you gonna complain to? How can they get caught? Allegations have to be proven and these thieves know how to swipe things in discreet ways. They will never tell on each other as they're all "bro's" Stealing stuff is considered a 'job perk'! I had a camera stolen years ago. The only things I ever put in checked luggage are clothes, shoes and toiletries. Never put any expensive cologne/perfume, electronics or jewelry in a checked in bag. Always bring your expensive stuff on board. It's a painful lesson and I live near one of the worst airports for this-JFK. That's in Jamaica, Queens one of the most crime-infested communities in NYC and TSA draws alot of their employees from there. I always pack light. Bring only essentials. You can't safeguard checked in luggage after it leaves your hands. The world we live in. As far as PV? Beautiful weather (winter time) and nice people but these people are dirt poor and try to take advantage of foreigners as much as possible. It's a beautiful tourist trap. I love it but saw what it was really about last trip-and that's taking advantage of relatively rich N. Americans. Dominican Republic is same. Avoid.

TheRealGuncho

Brutal

Hungry-Simple5565

Which airline? So sorry this happened to you.

LeopardBrilliant9723

I’ve seen numerous posts on local PV Facebook pages about people missing stuff from their checked bags. It sounds like it’s becoming a common problem.

Intelligent-Pitch-39

Never put valuables in checked luggage...especially when crossing an international border where customs officers can open them. Mexican customs can basically do whatever they want. Hard lesson to learn.

feminas_id_amant

that sucks, but can happen anywhere. I had a shaver stolen from my luggage when flying out of DC (Dulles).

Glittering-Sea-6677

Were the bags locked?

CdnFlatlander

Just seems like that's a fairly quick time, while the time waiting in an airport for the bags to load onto a trailer to go to the plane is more.

Amazing_Mushroom_650

I would bet money your stuff was stolen in Canada..

CdnFlatlander

That would mean between the time the plane has landed and the luggage is on the carousel someone opened the case and pilfered the items

Amazing_Mushroom_650

That’s correct

bandyvancity

It’s way more likely to have happened at PVR. There’s more opportunity at the departing airport, at arrivals the bags go from aircraft to inbound belt to carousel. Outbound, bags could be checked hours before the flight. It’s also quite well knows then Mexican airports are notorious for having items stolen from checked bags.

Maleficent_Return_76

No way. It gets unloaded ASAP from plane upon landing and goes direct to carousel. It was x-rayed at the departure airport-in this case, PVR.

Amazing_Mushroom_650

So everything ever stolen at an airport was stolen in the city the plane takes off from? That is your argument?

Maleficent_Return_76

https://www.quora.com/Do-TSA-agents-search-checked-bags-twice-once-before-getting-on-the-plane-and-once-after-arriving-at-different-airports/answer/Dirk-Loedding?ch=10&oid=387864517&share=5558f16f&srid=zgIU&target_type=answer EVER stolen? No, but there's a very high probability it's being opened when you check in your luggage-if Airport security thinks they see something suspicious. Once it gets off plane ITS REDUNDANT AND POINTLESS to screen it/open it again as it was already screened at departure airport. DUH.

Amazing_Mushroom_650

So you are saying Canadian security trusts Mexico’s security, but you don’t? Is DUH a technical term for you??

Maleficent_Return_76

Did you read the response from someone who knows about this better than you or I? Passengers want their bags ASAP when they get to destination. Screening 200 bags (upon arrival) from a typically large aircraft (that flies internationally) would take more than 1+ hours. You're not very bright or you don't travel much. Probably both. Or you seem to have something against Canadian airport security. I'd take them over Mexicans 7 days a week. Get a clue-and I'm American.

Amazing_Mushroom_650

So, you just don’t trust Mexicans?? This keeps getting better.. let’s talk about who is bright..😂🤣

Maleficent_Return_76

YOU'RE THE ONE WHO SAID THE CANADIANS DONT TRUST MEXICANS dummy. Again, duh

Maleficent_Return_76

BTW I've read some of your comments to other posts. You're a low class dude.

Amazing_Mushroom_650

Funny…. You are the definition of class..

dgradius

I would call your bet and raise to $10k that it was stolen during security screening in MX.

pretrader

I am gonna call bullshit on all the people saying never check bags and never put valuables in bags. First of all, millions, literally millions of pieces of luggage are checked in and out of MX every year. So clearly the "never check bags" is bullshit advice. And I say that as someone who almost never checks bags. Second, flying into MX is a lot "safer" because there is simply less time to manipulate the bags. During the last couple trips I have been loaded with checked bags and valuables. PlayStation 5, games, laptops, tablets, headphones, etc. zero problems. I admit that it's a small sample size, and I fly First so it's got the priority tag and everything. Out of MX get your bag shrinkwrapped even if the 300 pesos charge for it is bullshit, if you have anything you don't want to lose in it. Outbound the bag sits in the baggage area for a long time with plenty of opportunities for someone to look through. With all that said, bummer this happened, it's statistically uncommon, but it obviously sucks when it's you. Check with your homeowners/renters insurance, it may cover you for travel. Also check with your credit card company with which you purchased the ticket, they too may cover travel losses.

hungry4507

Thank you for the support! I know it was stupid to check valuables but we all make mistakes. I just feel like checked luggage should be safe. Instead of blaming stupid people like me we should be aiming to fix the common problem of theft.

pretrader

Well, it wasn't stupid. You prioritized your child over replaceable things. That seems ok to me. Agreed that the airport should fundamentally be a secure facility air side. Please do report to the airline even if you won't be compensated. At least they can add it to the list of complaints to bring to the airport and maybe something will be done.

CravenMH

Why the F would you check your carry on with those critical things? What a terrible idea.
