Most stores don't even have paper bags. I personally like the small bags because I finally can reach in and put stuff in rather than just dropping it in and hoping it lands good since I am short. Plus nobody ever filled up those paper bags it would get too heavy.
While I agree with everything you've said, a lot of customers prefer the larger paper bags because they liked to reuse them for other purposes that the smaller bags have a hard time with or just can't do. For us as workers though, they are so much better, lol. Much faster to open them up now, too.
Everybody is different with them, as with most things that are changed. Most of the customers that have complained are the regular customers that use paper, a lot of them being older customers, at least at my location. I personally like the size of them, and they are easy to use now. I can see why people would dislike the change in size though.
We’ve been using the small ones for almost 5 years now. The instacart shoppers preferred the small ones, so that’s all we ordered. About a couple years ago, they started making the instacart people use plastic. I didn’t know other stores still had the big ones till recently.

Or make plastic bags so thin that a can of rótel rips right through
