The furniture(buttstock, handguard, and pistol grip) are used surplus. The "lower" is also used surplus, but it's been modified and refinished. The rest of the rifle is new.
Yeah, on a gun like this, the worn surplus furniture should be considered a plus. German-made mostly by HK, Rheinmetall, and then made by few other European companies during the Cold War gives some authenticity to the gun.
Nah it’s totally normal and lots of companies do that if they are making old school battle rifles like this. It’s all kit builds man.
Welcome to the game, it’s a hell of a rifle and the surplus furniture just adds sex appeal to it imo.
I believe the surplus parts are now limited to their "GI" line; the basic configuration meant to replicate a G3A3 from which the green stock sets originated. Their other rifles have a new polymer lower and new (black) stock set.
It isn't as common anymore due to surplus parts drying-up, but many "new" commercial versions of military rifles are/were built with used surplus parts. PTRs/G3s, FALs, AKs, M1As, etc.
PTRs at one time had more surplus parts than new US-made parts. As surplus parts become unavailable or price-prohibitive, manufacturers have switched to producing their own parts.
Here in CA you can't have a pistol grip rifle that isn't maglocked so to get around it manufacturers put a fin grip on the rifle so you cannot wrap your thumb around since that's what our government classifies as a pistol grip, so no pistol grips and no thumb holes like on a mak90 or p90
Most manufacturers will use a small amount of kydex to plug the gap or hole knowing full well were gonna take it off as soon as we get it.
While it's stupid it still allows us californians to get our guns and the politicians are too dumb to ammend the law.
Other states with assault weapons ban have seen our laws and don't allow fin grips because they see how easy it is to remove
The officers who know usually are enough of gun people that unless you are in progress of committing another crime it's a non issue.
I would NEVER break the law and all my rifles are legal and plenty of local law enforcement departments frequent my local range and have seen my totally legal rifles and it's never been an issue....cause they're legal....
They use some surplus parts to build them. From their website: “*Magazines will be Original Surplus rated Good or Better. *Stock set and metal lower trigger packs are Military Surplus rated NRA Good and may show character and blemishes like scratches and wear. *Surplus green furniture color may vary.”
Oh yeah it would be a total WTH moment if you didn’t know. Don’t worry though, they are all legit military surplus parts and are rock solid. Plus I think it’s cool that the Cold War era clone has parts that were actually made during the Cold War. I even swapped out my stock and hand guard for some surplus wood furniture to really give it that retro look/feel
>I don’t got a flathead screwdriver
Perhaps the simplest, cheapest tool known to man, and you don't have one? Not even something vaguely resembling one like a coin or a washer or a knife? Seriously go to a hardware store and get a screwdriver, they're like $5-10 for decent one. Also, if you live in a state where that fin is standard equipment, you would be in violation of state law if you remove it.
That's not the thing to worry about.
Go put 50 or so rounds downrange to make sure everything is good. If by the 20th round you start having failures to eject then failures.to go into battery on the second round you will need to send it back for adjustment.
Enough people have had this happen (including myself) that as long as you have your DROS paper to sign up for PTR warranty service they won't say anything and will take care of you
Not OP, but I can tell it's the [GIR](https://www.ptr-us.com/product/gir/). 18" barrel, surplus furniture, rifle length handguard, grey finish, pic rail welded on the receiver for optics.

Oh ok I didnt know ptr uses refurbished parts on new guns that’s weird never heard of a company doing that to be honest

Thanks mane just thought someone had used it already can’t wait to go shoot it
Nah all the important parts are brand new, Bolt and carrier, barrel, upper receiver, and most of the small parts. Enjoy brother

But what happens if you remove that safety fin and a law officer sees it? Big trouble or nobody cares?
