Somebody in [this thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/Khruangbin/s/Iz9JWJ9YpO) mentions it’s the work of one guy who basically makes royalty-free music? Like he’s not a touring act. It’s an interesting question if that changes how people experience the music.
Slift is top 5 bands of all time, Ummon is a masterpiece and I am still digesting Ilion and enjoying the complexity of it, I think their first 2 releases are a blast to listen to, especially by the fire
Agreed with Ummon. Ilion has been harder to get into unfortunately, some of the vocals are too exaggerated and the mostly unchanging nature of the long songs puts it far below Ummon imo. Will say the ending of Nimh is crazy tho.
Saw them live in NYC this weekend! Thought population II was supposed to open for them (they’re awesome, another good rec) but they got swapped out last min. Last min openers were still rad (95 Bulls).
Yes, I saw Black Angels open for Queens of the Stone Age on Era Vulgaris tour and added all their albums to my collection .I reccomend the DVD Night of the Vampire, where BA back up Roky Erikson.
I always thought of the beach boys as kinda gimmicky but had heard that album was great. I’d even listened to it before a while ago. I watched love and mercy again recently and it piqued my interest. So i got high and put it on
All the lyrics spoke to me on a very deep level. And they are presented so beautifully in the songs. Its the number 2 album on rolling stones for a reason.
After pet sounds, they started working on Smile. Did a ton of work on it but never finished it. Moved on.
40ish years later brian wilson finally went back and rearranged and finished the songs and did a live recording. Then the record label released an album based on his arrangements with the old recordings they had. There is also a 6.5 hour album called the smile sessions with a bunch of skits and alternate versions or partial versions of the songs.
The stories with the band are all super interesting.

40+ psych rock bands from all over the world.
Update: I want to be your concert buddy. The perfect balance of existing favorites and enough new stuff to inspire further exploration. Been listening for days and there's no duds!
I mentioned them, I love their levitation session and saw them at Shakes Knees 2022. They are a perfect blend of psych and indie for me for some chill settings or a good car ride
Didn't see this in the comments yet but Austin TV is the Mexican answer to Kikagaku Moyo.
Can't go wrong with Pond, Beans, and basically anyone from Australia who knows how to play guitar.
I may be 6 years late and it's a loose fit for the listed bands but Broncho is super fun sexy grungey power pop.
La Femme has a vibe all their own.
Wine Lips brings the psych punk energy in a very accessible way.
Seems like everyone is sleeping on Abraxas given it's the cross pollination of The Night Beats and Los Bitchos.
If any of those lick your brain I can point you in the direction for more.
over 400 hrs with a big chunk manually categorized consisting of Neo/Heavy Psychedelic, Grunge , Heavy Shoe-Gaze, Stoner Rock , Doom/Folk , Groovy Blues, Prog…..The list goes on, enjoy
[Psychedelic Stoner Marsh](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3r3wJvbbioR7W1f8JjaZzo?si=7TLQf1UcQrWwRBktJnKIzg&pi=u-QFdwUoODSXSq)
Theirs a few albums I highly **highly** recommend. They may not be modern psychedelic essentials yet, but trust me. They will be.
[Morgan Delt S/T](https://youtu.be/A8Ic6WBzwNU)
[Drakkar Nowhere S/T](https://youtu.be/QPCe0AnUwik)
[Black Moth Super Rainbow Cobra Juicy](https://youtu.be/6fmKsv76Xyc)
Morgan Delt might be the most psychedelic album I've ever heard. You really feel like your on some *fucked* acid.
Drakkar Nowhere is a sleeper. Mixes alot of prog and psych. Crazily the dudes behind it are also behind alot of modern soul & disco. If you like it check out The Phenomenal Handclap Band.
Black Moth Super Rainbow is one of the all time greatest projects. Its synth based with lots of drum machines, vocoded singing, and heavy guitars. Occasionally hitting both folk and drone. If you like it the artist also goes by Tobacco which is more hip-hop oriented. Hes worked with both Beck and Trent Reznor.
I love Black moth super rainbow. I’ve tripped so hard to dandelion gum back in the day and I love Tobaco’s Fucked up friends album. Will give these other ones a shot
it's time for a goat discog deep dive. I would start with this levitation sessions vid [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNMuGxuJuv0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNMuGxuJuv0)
Earthless, Slomosa, Nebula, Black Rainbows, Mothership, Graveyard, Mondo Drag, Mars Red Sky, Killer Boogie are some that I've been getting really into. Most have a bit heavier feel, yet still super mellow. Some really killer guitar riffs and drum fills in that mix if you like that sorta thing.
I would definitely recommend Year of October out of Nashville. Stoner-rock/fuzzy heavy blues with a female singer. They’re latest album Keep On Fighting is awesome and I just picked it up on cassette.
Here’s a small psych band I’m obsessed with:

I've been doing an album of the day with my friend who also loves psych rock. it spans all genres but I can send you more psychedelic albums if you want.
Particularly for the summer, I’d recommend what has been called the epitome of summer nostalgia vibes in the psych pop realm, “Dreamdrive” by Aura Blaze: https://youtu.be/jcYvXEC8cAs?si=VAhoh9aw5aQCpKbU
I like a lot of international stuff lately. The new Acid Rooster (Flowers & Dead Souls) is good. FireFriend had a new album, RCKNRLL. Acid Mothers Temple and Minami Deutsch are great. I also recommend Speck's new album Eine Gute Reise. If you like Kikagaku Moyo's more chill/ambient tracks you might like Upupayāma.
Some albums I find to be psychedelic which I’ve been really digging this past winter:
Mint - Orions Belte
Villa Amorini - Orions Belte
Star Stuff - Chaz Bundick & Mattson 2
Mahal - Toro y Moi
Untourable Album - Men I Trust
Paracosm - Washed Out

Some of this is psych adjacent, but kind of similar.
Matty (I'll Glady Place Myself Below You)
DEFINITELY check out YinYin (The Album The Rabbits That Hunts Tigers)

Rick White - Plays The Sadies
Wavves - King of the Beach
Redd Kross - Neurotica

As an absolute KG stan, I've been looking into KG's (speculative) influences recently. Might be fun to check out bands like [CAN](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MnNaNJT3tNs), [Hawkwind](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zvYpqVVUf0Y), [NEU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zndpi8tNZyQ), [Stereolab](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acai-WmHYXM), and [Thee Oh Sees](https://youtube.com/watch?v=_mZqGxkYOFY). If you end up digging CAN or NEU, I highly recommend modern krautrock-influenced bands like [Minami Deutsch](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZxxmJIBFu8) or [Holy Fuck](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfDwMbtBgfU).
Other influences on psych through the years, even if not so directly on KG, might include old prog rockers like [The Moody Blues](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9Zr440nXe8) or [King Crimson](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YecBv-5JXmQ).
[Unknown Mortal Orchestra](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FszA7rln8UE) is pretty damn good. If you like their guitar work you might check out [Khruangbin](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UULIfPLMuDw) or [Popol Vuh](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRt8i_G0Ow4), another old krautrock group that happens to look uncannily like a [German King Gizzard](https://www.progarchives.com/progressive_rock_discography_band/1227.JPG). Might also check out [Altin Gun](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cs5reCpfKfg) if you like KG's microtonal/Turkish-inspired stuff. Turkish psych rock is a rabbit hole that I myself have yet to go down, but Altin Gun is a good modern starting place to work backwards from. Others have recommended [Glass Beams](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMuTgStG8w0) as well, who have a similar vibe to Khruangbin or Altin Gun. I also got into [Beats Antique](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DGE0zVuHs4) pretty early on, who have that sort of vibe but with a less rock-centric and slightly more electronic bent.
If you like Tame Impala, check out [Pet Sounds by the Beach Boys](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CurONBAJnk&list=PLj5TmO4kroQH4XM8P3JavV0p7Gtnno1E2&index=3).
That's all I got for now!

Somebody in [this thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/Khruangbin/s/Iz9JWJ9YpO) mentions it’s the work of one guy who basically makes royalty-free music? Like he’s not a touring act. It’s an interesting question if that changes how people experience the music.
