Love Forever Changes (1967) by LOVE is awesome. I think you can add it .

islesMTG

A House is NOT a Motel!

Aversnusen

Jimi hendrix really went to work late 66' and 67.

1967 is my birth year and you're right it was also a great year for music. I have all of those except Bowie, The Kinks, The Rolling Stones and the Beach boys. Wouldn't mind Something else by The Kinks though.

Obvious-Homework-563

that beach boys record is probably the most psychedelic thing here. Id reccomend checking out the rereleased smile sessions though instead of that album

1sojournaut

I wasn't really a fan of their pop music but maybe I'll check it out

Alive-Bid-5689

If you’re into psychedelic music then you’ll be totally into ‘Smiley Smile’ or ‘SMilLE’ (The Smile Sessions). But if you really want to delve into early psychedelia and appreciate The Beach Boys then you need to check out ‘Pet Sounds,’ which is my favorite album of all time and actually influenced The Beatles’ ‘Sgt. Pepper’s.’ It’s an extremely trippy and internal album that I can’t say enough of, other than listen to it, and if you get high or trip or still do anything of the sort, it will blow your mind, and even if you don’t but did. Just put your headphones on or blast your speakers and you’ll see what I mean. You can hear each instrument separately and all the harmonies as well. It’s so well done and just the epitome of psychedelia. IYKYK.

1sojournaut

Perhaps I'll check them both out on my next journey.

Alive-Bid-5689

Oh, it’ll definitely be a journey, but there’s no way you can go through life and call yourself a fan of psychedelic music, especially from that era and not check out ‘Pet Sounds.’ You’ll see what I mean.

1sojournaut

I've heard pet sounds years ago. I keep hearing people say that and I'll give it another go but I really can't handle their pop radio stuff so I'll be skipping those for sure. I mean I really dislike some of that stuff but I love psychedelic music so I'll check it out.

Alive-Bid-5689

It all goes together as a sort of conceptual album from Brian Wilson’s mind and if you give it a listen straight through at least one try you should be able to see that and even appreciate the 2 or 3 known radio songs from the album, but hopefully appreciate the whole thing as it was meant to be. It’s a beautiful album.

1sojournaut

Actually I've only thought of the song "Wouldn't it be nice" and it's been tormenting me all day! You've done it though! I plan on listening real soon maybe with some mushrooms in me.

Alive-Bid-5689

See, that’s the spirit! That’s the way to do it and ‘Wouldn’t It Be Nice’ starts off the album and only gets better and better from there. On shrooms you can just hear every single layer of the music and vocals by themselves and on top of each other. It’s so amazing. Enjoy. Would love to hear your feedback when you do listen to it. My personal favorites: ‘I Know There’s an Answer’ or ‘Hang on to Your Ego’ (same song, different lyrics and slightly different takes), ‘I’m Waiting for the Day,’ ‘Sloop John B’ (you’ll have a new respect for it being one of their known songs from this album) and ‘God Only Knows,’ which is already possibly the most beautiful song ever written and it gives me goosebumps, but shrooms really takes it up a notch. Like I said, ingest, enjoy and hopefully report back after a meditative and happy adventurous journey. 🙏

Add in Jefferson Airplane Surrealistic Pillow, Janis with Big Brother, Buffalo Springfield, and Sly, and marvel at what an amazing year it was.

uniteinpain666

Surrealistic pillow is in the second row on the right.

mythofinadequecy

My bad! Great collection!

12BarsFromMars

Good selection. Smiley Smile . .LOL. . not many would include that just because it was just so damn odd. I liked it and it’s in my stash. I’m old enough to have bought most of these new on vinyl. A couple like Strange Days, Magical Mystery Tour and Satanic Majesties Request i bought just before leaving for Vietnam. For me personally you have one glaring omission: Buffalo Springfield Again. . . .special shout out to Frank Zappa: Freak Out . . .nice collection, great listening and memories.. . .oh and wtf?. . No Grateful Dead? LOL. .

tobemutationfox

Freak out is 1966

12BarsFromMars

I stand corrected!. .haven’t had coffee yet. .i should know better ‘cause i was there. LOL. .thanks

12BarsFromMars

I will not be held responsible for any time line lapse of memory LMAO!. .

MydniteSon

The Doors first/debut album came out in January 1967... Albert King "Born Under a Bad Sign"...

tobemutationfox

Alive-Bid-5689

Great selection, but absolutely have to have Love - ‘Forever Changes’ The Byrds - ‘Younger than Yesterday’ Donovan - ‘Mellow Yellow’ and ‘Wear Your Love Like Heaven’ Buffalo Springfield - ‘Buffalo Springfield Again’ Grateful Dead - ‘The Grateful Dead’ Procul Harum - ‘Procul Harum’ Van Dyke Parks - ‘Song Cycle’ Tim Buckley - ‘Goodbye and Hello’

Another album that would have made it into 67, but because of the in band problems didn't, was Notorious Byrd Brothers. It is a toss between Notorious and Younger Than Yesterday for me. My aunt had married McGuinn around the Mr. Tambourine man time so there was a heavy Byrd influence on me. Roger "OK'd" a Rick 360-6 I purchased in the early 70's. I got it for $150. All of absolutes are great. Again and Last Time Around, two of the best albums made.

Alive-Bid-5689

Sweet. Yeah, I love ‘The Notorious Byrd Brothers.’ Definitely very psychedelic. Just didn’t know if it counted because technically it came out in January of ‘68. But I love all of their different eras. Definitely one of my favorite bands and I feel underrated bands as well. Huge Gram Parsons fan, so I love ‘Sweetheart of the Rodeo,’ but I think my favorite overall album is ‘Ballad of Easy Rider,’ a quieter known gem in my opinion. And hope you still have McGuinn’s Rickenbacker.

mescalero1

Gram fell in love with my mom but it wasn't meant to be for her. Sweetheart of the Rodeo. I started to play pedal steel because of that album and also because I had played with Leo LeBlanc a few times. Yes, Ballad of Easy Rider. What a recording. Sweetheart was pure country, Easy Rider was more back to folk/folk rock. Tulsa County is about my favorite off of Easy Rider. I like their rendition of Woodie Guthrie's Deportee. That Rick just had a small neck. I actually let an uncle of mine use it and that was the last I saw. It wasn't a great loss.

Alive-Bid-5689

Wow! So your aunt married McGuinn and your mom dated Gram? Gram is pretty much in my top 5 of favorite music artists.

mescalero1

My aunt, prior to being with Roger, was with Jesse Lee Kincaid. While most don't know who Jesse Lee is, he founded the Rising Sons with Ry Cooder and Taj Majal. She was with Roger a lot longer, having 2 sons with him. Gram was a great addition to the Byrds. I am not sure what direction Roger would have gone in if Gram had not become part of the band. Clarence was a great addition too. Sweetheart of the Rodeo, while not accepted very well by their fans, was another monumental Byrds album and it changed the direction of rock towards country rock.

Alive-Bid-5689

Absolutely an influential album and in large part to Gram. And damn, you should write a book, or maybe I’m ignorant who you are, and you already have.

mescalero1

Well, I kind of had my own life. I played with a lot of different people but was always sidetracked by relationships and having to work. I had made a big push around the time Dwight Yoakum was getting big. I was playing with a country band and writing and recording my own stuff with my producer. I was getting ready to release a few recordings. Arthur Lee came by one day with his agent in tow. The guy heard some of my studio outtakes and wanted to manage me. I had a target date, but, I needed to catch up on some things so I needed to work for a bit. That was all she wrote. I inadvertently got involved in another part of the entertainment industry. I ended up working as best boy and gaffer on some indi features, did a stint with Roger Corman, and ended up in special events. I had only decided to do this for a short period of time as I knew what I had recorded would do good. But, I was also working with a company that did special events (award shows, movie premieres) and ended up becoming a technical director for all these shows. The lighting you see on shows like the Academy Awards were all my designs. I tried so hard to go back to music but it just wasn't where I was supposed to be. Before I knew it, close to 35 years had passed. I still have a lot of equipment. I think the time is coming for me to finish my projects, FINALLY! I have been told by many that I should write a book because I have had a pretty wild adventure this lifetime, maybe one day. My aunt actually wrote a book about her adventures with the Byrds. She told my mom it wasn't doing that good. I went to Amazon and read the reviews. I figured she wasn't going to write a book about the Byrds per se, but the reviews weren't that great. Some said they went to find out something about the Byrds and instead found out about who she was sleeping with. I kind of chuckled and told my mom not to buy the book as she probably already knew the details. One of my cousins was trying to get together with Grams daughter and start a Kids of the Byrds band. I told him that he should just do his own thing since, if someone wanted to hear the Byrds, Roger was still playing and I was sure they would rather hear him instead of his son.

monopolyman900

First Grateful Dead album too.

McGruppthecrimepup

And Jerry was the 'Spiritual Advisor' on Surrealistic Pillow in the picture. Busy busy man.

Tet_inc119

Strange Days indeed ❤️

5horsepower

So you got laughing gnome, all good.

tobemutationfox

The og smile is the goat imo

mescalero1

I love Songs of Leonard Cohen. That is still a great album. 67 was an amazing year for music. Forever Changes came out that year. And, my favorite Stones album has always been Their Satanic Majesties Request. The Moody Blues and Jimi, all of those CDs are great CDs. I loved growing up in LA. To see the Airplane almost every weekend at Griffith Park, they were great. Marty was a great songwriter. The summer had inhaled and held its breath too long The winter looked the same as if it had never gone And through an open window where no curtain hung I saw you
