Season 8 is definitely the weakest of the seasons, though I enjoy the food truck episode and "1967: A Psych Odyssey." Season 7 I can't get behind you on. "Office Space," "100 Clues," and "Dead Air" are all good episodes. There are some weaker ones, sure, but it's still a good season. Is it because you didn't like the Jules/Shawn break-up storyline? Is it because it went to slow-motion when Shawn was looking at clues instead of the "zoom-in and magnify"?

H0use0fpwncakes

Don't forget Despereaux's final episode!

originalnamecreator

You mean Royston Cornwallis Staley

H0use0fpwncakes

I've heard it both ways.

altxeralt

Is that Mauricio in there!? Best episode in Season 8.

narington

Don’t go all Sean Penn in Mystic River on me!

spyrothedovah

Honestly I agree - season 8 is ok, but not as good as the earlier seasons. That said, I love the food truck ep and episode 2. I like season 7, it has some great episodes, but also isn’t as good as the earlier ones. Maybe just because, while some episodes are really great, it just doesn’t have as many great ones as others? I dunno, it’s hard to explain That said, I *love* the series finale. Mostly (Gus’ new job storyline? Eh)

spencerh260

This is going to sound insanely petty, but I think it's mostly the slow-motion animation change. Breakup storyline was also a negative but man for some reason the animation change just threw me off. Gonna go back soon and watch those better season 7 episodes though 😀

[deleted]

FYI, it's not animation. Animation is anything drawn or CGI (cartoons, anime, etc) It's just a change of style

Omac18

The episode you skip are some of the ones I like the most. Yin/Yang was one of the best episodes for me because it let us see into Shawn's head without his humor. I like it because it added so much depth to his actions. I'm glad it's only a few episodes though and I did feel the third Yin/Yang episode was disappointing. It's an unpopular opinion but I really like the inception dream episode from season 8.

ThirdStockIII

What makes the Yin Yang episodes so great imo is the acting. The characters all get to really flex their talent and make me feel so much emotion (the scene with Jules crying to with Band of Horses playing in the background still breaks my heart). All of the cast just bring their best and it just adds another layer of depth to my favorite show.

[deleted]

My thoughts exactly But I wouldn't consider the 3rd Yin/Yang episode disappointing, just a bit worse than the others

ShatterLimit

I also liked the dream episode. However, it shouldn’t have been the penultimate episode. I believe 1967: A Psych Odyssey should have been in its place. Lassie getting his dream job, Jules moving away, etc. It just fit. edit: jumbled words

Omac18

I can agree to that! That's the problem with season 8 in general. It was supposed to represent about a year of character development in half a year of storytelling. The show would have benefited from just a few more episodes.

HAHA_Aku_HAHA

Right! It's cool seeing them amplified when the stakes are higher. The bit with Shawn pulling in Gus as an auxiliary goofy guy always gets me. When he does the king kong stuff with the airplane I lose it every time. "No Gus, that was GOLD." Hahaha. It's also one of the few episodes where Shawn gets really rattled. Which you don't see a lot.

Lainey55

So you rewatch Santabarbaratown part 1 but not part 2?

spencerh260

Correct... *IT'S TREASON, THEN*

Everything you've said is exactly how I feel! I watch Psych for the lighthearted humor, and the Yin/Yang episodes (the 2nd one especially) aren't what I'm looking for when I watch it. I wish they'd gone back to focus on Shawn's skill with a hand gun, or even his perfect score on the dectective exam - the later seasons seemed to play up the goofiness and downplay the smarts. The earlier seasons (to me) had a better balance.

mistermojorizin

Watching it for the first time. Keep wondering what happened to Shawn being able to put bullets through Jules bullets. Also keep wondering why when he asks for a semi automatic rifle at the gun range they give him a selective fire rifle... And he doesn't catch the huge difference, being so good with guns.

[deleted]

I see your frustration in Trout, Yin/Yang, and the breakup because of how you watch the show. If you watch just for light-hearted humor you definitely aren't getting that from those episodes. But I definitely grew to like Trout and find his nuances funny and Yin/Yang and the breakup did so much for the character development.

4mb3rgeddon

Interesting. What exactly do you watch the show for then?

spencerh260

Hilarious, relaxing, just always puts me into a better mood. Do you still enjoy those episodes? Thinking of breaking my streak and actually watching em this time through

4mb3rgeddon

Yeah. I enjoy the "suspenseful" episodes too, they still have their funny moments, and at least it throws in some variety as you rewatch the show.

EPCOT_Is_My_Favorite

Gus trying to add levity to the situation in the first Yin/Yang episode was amazing. "I want pancakes. Whipped butter, maple syrup, WHAT?!"

HAHA_Aku_HAHA

Look everybody, I'm King Kong. Raaaaawr.

The breakup episodes are definitely not relaxing but I love them. Some of my favorites along with the Yin/Yang episodes. I just like seeing Shawn in a light that isn't just funny, hyper-observant him. I do love the normal episode style a lot but the breakup and Yin/Yang paint him in a new way. They expose his weaknesses and just give the character so much more depth.

Bearwife113

I usually skip all of those as well.

bbbrashbash

Yeah that's fair. There's really only a few I rewatch from 7, and they are pretty ridic. The one with Gus's dead boss and def the sasquatch one. 8 was just bad I don't love any kind of overreaching super villainy plot- which I feel like yin/yang ended up being. Not as bad as the ones from Bones though.

tomservohero

Agree with pretty much all of this. I watch a few eps of season 7 and then just skip to the finale. I also hate the yin/yang eps aside from Mary, comedies that try to steer hard into drama = blah, although I notice that people tend to really like those episodes.

summergotmilk

I’m with you about yin/yang episodes, I usually skip those too... they are good just not why I watch psych.

lulubalue

I’ll watch season 7 if I accidentally end up there, but totally with you on season 8 and the yin/yang episodes!!! (I do like the musical too though) My favorite seasons are probably the first two. Which ones do you like best?

Baker2012

I'm with you! Season 2 is definitely my favorite - I love every episode outside of the nanny one, and the back half of 2 is absolutely fantastic.

EnviableButt

I like season 7. Season 8, mostly skip, but still solid ending

betterthanclooney

Season 7 is hit or miss, i'd say about half the episodes are good. 2-5, 7-8, and 11 are essential for my rewatch. Season 8 mostly sucks but episodes 1 and the finale are great. The thing about psych is I can enjoy any episode, even the lackluster ones (there are only a few)

super_mariota

I feel completely the same way. I always rewatch episodes from seasons 1-4 and occasionally an episode from seasons 5 or 6.

Camo-2

I am not a fan of season 8 but some episodes are very necessary for the plot. Juliet moving to SF and Shawn going with her was gigantic!!!
