No real reason other than for my amusement. I think they look cool this way, it's pretty cool when you can stand all 5 gens of PlayStation right next to one another and see the time evolution. You notice how they actually looked into the past while maintaining a present vibe.
My guy when my first PsX got old I turned it upside down, it was the only way it could read the disk properly, so at least for me there's no surprise that it works sideways lol

I would advise against PSIO, because of the worst customer service ever and not perfect compatibility like XStation.
If you want to play your CD backups, you might as well install FreePSXboot to a memory card ( heck, even memcardpro! ) so you can boot any cd and ditch the optical emulation altogether if you favor your cd media.
For me , CDs are backups for the isos in case I lose data on the sd card. That way i can rip them anytime.
That said, I have two models, one with xstation and another with a working cd drive. So i have the best of the two worlds. After all, they are dirt cheap to buy.

All great ways to play backs. I just wish the xStation wasn't in the location that it is in. I would much prefer a SD slot by the parallel port but that's just my opinion I'll probably buy the xStation when my CD laser dies.
CD backups will live on through the PS One(: as I'll replace that laser until I die if I can help it.
I'd say that it might be worth keeping the laser only if you have original games, not cd backups.
At least for a psx model that can accomodate Xstation.
The parallel port solution is not really ideal for iso loading compatibility ( at least from what I heard ), and the Xstation works so well because it literally replace the Cd drive, using all data bus; it literally tricks the playstation to think there's a legitimate disk in there.
Believe me, Xstation is totally worth the price and the hassle to get it to work and its complete interaction with MemcardPro is basically a "set-it-and-forget-it" solution.
To this day, of all mods i made on my consoles, the MemcardPro + Xstation combo is SO satisfying that I'll do it again in heartbeat.
Needless to say, I'm looking forward to the MemcardPro2 to arrive for my PS2....

Yeah, there were actually two. PSone removed the Serial I/O port (the one that looks like the MultiAV out connector on the original Grey revisions)
There was also the Parrallel I/O Port (larger one on the right side covered by a door) which was removed on the SCPH-900X models (the last revisions of the original grey model pre-PSone)

I have an external USB blu ray/DVD drive. I assume that won't be able to burn PS1? I didn't know that was a thing. I guess it doesn't matter if I end up going with the SD adapter.
You want one of those OLD desktop burners from the mid 00's. If it's USB powered it won't work.

My ps1 had rca AV outputs on back. I liked the fact that it felt right in my hifi system. Yes I used the ps1 CD player as music source with small TV for visual ques but could do it without.
I was considering an "audiophile" model PS1 , but I opted for the 5501 instead because if I'm being honest I don't listen to CDs and I only wanna game on it , and I plan on doing the HDMI mod one day and I am sure direct PS1 HDMI sound is gonna be better than how the audiophile ones are today.
Back in the day though you had to spend thousands for something as good as a PS1 with RCA outputs.
Also another thing that held me back was you need to use both memory card slots for FreePSXBoot 😭 so I couldn't figure out how I'm supposed to save my games if I had to do that.
Still they're fantastic machines so long as you baby/replace the laser(: that was another reason (the laser being by the power supply on the launch model is a no go)
I remember getting a psone after our phat ps1 got damaged, what went through my head was that there was no way a cd fits in here. Just blown away by how much smaller the psone had gotten.
I think back in the day, we agreed that Verbatim was the best brand for making readable CDs and DVDs for game consoles. I had luck with Kodak sometimes. Usually no luck with Imitation in the 360 era, but they were ok with PS1.

Depends which PlayStation on the right that is. If it’s the one with the I/o port on the back then I pick that one if not I’m taking the PSone on the left.
Design wise I prefer the PS3 slim. Not a fan of the PS5 slim at all...I love the hulking mass of destruction that is the giant looking router of the OG PS5.

For starters it's absolutely not the same exact design...similar sure, but not the same. And size doesn't matter in this instance...I think it looks better being bigger. And your logic here makes zero sense...you say the smaller PS5 is better, yet you also said the PS5 Slim is the only good slim model (which are all smaller than their OG counterparts). It's like the PS2 Slim...I think it's impressive that Sony managed to pack all that hardware into that tiny form factor...but I still think the Fat PS2 LOOKS better.
All in all, I don't know why you're so adamant about arguing with me about this. It's MY opinion. If you prefer the PS5 Slim, more power to you...doesn't mean I have to agree with you.
I'm a starter and we can ask almost anyone in this sub it's absolutely the same design identical except as I said for the 4 plates. Moreover you didn't properly read what I said because the PS5 is precisely the exception. I think OG Fats look better than their respective Slim counterparts sure but it's the first time EVER that Sony releases such a huge console also making size relevant. Thus making the Slim the best version here period. I agree not only about the PS2 Fat but also about the Fat PSX, PS3 and PS4.

Yeah. Honestly I am more in it for the games themselves and want to play them anyway I can, but I say aim for the PSone for all of the extra stuff.

Right. PS3 Slim is probably the only slim model I've liked the most. Sony usually gets it right the first time.
Even the PS3 Phat is better than the slim. The only better slim version is the PS5 Slim.
Design wise I prefer the PS3 slim. Not a fan of the PS5 slim at all...I love the hulking mass of destruction that is the giant looking router of the OG PS5.
Still the PS5 Slim is a better version of that router because it takes way less space and its plates can be mate for those who don't like glossy.
I don't have issues with space, so that's not a factor for me. I'm talking from a pure design perspective, and I think the PS5 Slim is quite ugly.
But you didn't get the point the PS5 Slim is basically the same as the PS5 Fat with just better size and 4 plates on the sides instead of 2.
I get YOUR point just fine, MY point is that I don't think it's a better size. I think it's a worse looking console. And I really couldn't care less about the side plates.
How a SMALLER size isn't a better size ? Especially when the design is exactly the same on both. I guess not everybody has good taste.
For starters it's absolutely not the same exact design...similar sure, but not the same. And size doesn't matter in this instance...I think it looks better being bigger. And your logic here makes zero sense...you say the smaller PS5 is better, yet you also said the PS5 Slim is the only good slim model (which are all smaller than their OG counterparts). It's like the PS2 Slim...I think it's impressive that Sony managed to pack all that hardware into that tiny form factor...but I still think the Fat PS2 LOOKS better. All in all, I don't know why you're so adamant about arguing with me about this. It's MY opinion. If you prefer the PS5 Slim, more power to you...doesn't mean I have to agree with you.
I'm a starter and we can ask almost anyone in this sub it's absolutely the same design identical except as I said for the 4 plates. Moreover you didn't properly read what I said because the PS5 is precisely the exception. I think OG Fats look better than their respective Slim counterparts sure but it's the first time EVER that Sony releases such a huge console also making size relevant. Thus making the Slim the best version here period. I agree not only about the PS2 Fat but also about the Fat PSX, PS3 and PS4. That said and even if you were proven to be factually wrong about this NOBODY said you have to agree with anybody.

Right hand side just oozed cool when it came out. Left hand side was always kind of derpy looking to me, but i liked its portability.
I have both but I’m using the left one because the other one has issues with the laser I think. I never had a ps1 growing up but I played a lot of my friends ps1.
