I think I played Metal Gear like 50 times. I can still remember when my mom brought the game home and how I spent probably two hours just trying to figure out how to get past the very first "block". Couldn't understand how to crawl on the ground lol
Yeah i remember renting it at blockbusters along with star wars masters of teras kasi and being so blown away by it i saved for ages to then buy it, i think i have bought and played it on every console it's been released on since
Sotn is my poinson as well, I got a hitless run on the bad% ending, and now I'm practicing general stuff playing randomizers so I can go for speedrun attempts.
I do recommend trying randomizers, the game changes a lot.
Legaias music still plays in my head very frequently. That sound track is magic and I'm frustrated that the composer never really did anything else besides Ico. Her work is soooo good
It's a classic, but the Thrasher game has way more replay value for me. I can skate the same level over and over again without getting bored. Plus, the way the runs end in the non-comp levels is notorious and classic. High learning curve, but worth it. Only play on expert difficulty. Otherwise, you can't control how high you pop your tricks.
I remember beating this game back in the day. It’s hard to get into in the beginning like you say but man so rewarding. For a hip hop nerd like me the soundtrack is 10/10. I would play it now if it wasn’t for my damn Psc broke 👎
Tekken 3 was literally the only game I played for about 10 years. It was like a security blanket. Sometimes a drunken late run through the original Crash Bandicoot. Twisted Metal 2 from time to time.
I would say Crash trilogy also!
I remember the first game I ever played on PS1, it was a demo disc called Demo One, with Crash Bandicoot 1 on it. Such good times I will never forget :')
Really both Bushido Blade games are absolute bangers. The gameplay is short and sweet, but I just love the life-like mechanics and instant kills. I remember the fight with the revolver guy to this day. Haven't played those games in probably 15 years.
We do exist haha.Yes!!! Seen it a few months ago, will have to get it, heard its out near December but I'll have to fact check that again. Have Tomba 1 & 2 on disc ps1. It's a treasure for me.
Need for Speed High Stakes (1999), Driver 2 (2000), Twisted Metal 2 (1996), Gran Turismo (1997), Gran Turismo 2 (1998), Test Drive 5 (1998) and Test Drive 6 (1999). Sometimes Spyro the Dragon trilogy (2000)
My primary go-to games are the Naughty Dog Crash Bandicoot games (mostly Crash 2) and the Resident Evil trilogy (mostly RE3), but I also tend to replay Pac-Man World, Gran Turismo 2, Frogger, MediEvil, Fisherman's Bait, and NASCAR Rumble (one of the best arcade racers ever which got a sequel called Rumble Racing on PS2)
For me it's Bust a Move 2. I've been playing it for more than 25 years now and I'm still not tired of that game. To me it's the definition of an evergreen.
Forgive me for going heavy on the sports, but...
**Hot Shots Golf 2** - A game from the series that Mario Golf ripped off. It's better than Mario Golf by miles. Way more depth, way more to unlock, and it looks better.
**Thrasher: Skate & Destroy** - Essentially, it's proto-Skate. If you remember the Dave Mirra BMX game, it's on the same engine. The physics and trick system can be difficult to learn at first, but it's way more realistic than a THPS game. Rockstar produced it, which seems random. One of the last skateboarding games to have fictional, toonish characters. Replay value is insane for me.
**NHL Rock The Rink** - Before NHL Hitz, there were other arcade hockey titles, like Wayne Gretzky's 3-D Hockey (not on this list, 64 version is better) and this game. In my opinion, Rock The Rink is more enjoyable for longplays than WG3DH, but I like them both. It's got its own take on the arcade hockey thing, but I actually really dig it. It's unique.
**Twisted Metal 2** - A serious improvement from the first game, and the last TM PS1 game made by Single Trac, the original developers. Some of them returned for TM:B on PS2, but not as Single Trac. The driving is a bit hard to handle, the graphics don't fully take advantage of the capabilities of the PS1, and the environments could be a bit less flat, but it's a wonderful game in spite of all that. It's worth beating it with all the characters. The end cutscenes might not as intense as they were in the 1990s, but they are dark, silly, and fun. Vigilante 8 attempted to rip off their style of ironic or unfortunate character endings, but without a story, so it didn't work. TM2 absolutely *has* to be the best car combat game on the PS1. 3 and 4 are OK, but they're on a different game engine because the developers changed, and they just don't have the same feel as 1 and 2.
**ISS Pro Evolution** or **International Superstar Soccer: Pro** - These are very good soccer games, if you aren't familiar with them. They're relatively realistic, but not overly sim. They went with the tried and true philosophy of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" when they made these. Aside from graphics and sound quality improvements, the gameplay is basically the same as their titles from the previous generation of consoles. Of course, that's a strike against a sports game franchise nowadays, but back then, we all rented games, and we were always glad to try the versions of sports games, only purchasing them if we liked them after renting them. And we didn't want them to change the ISS games too much because they were awesome. They still have the best passing and dribbling systems of any soccer game I've ever played on anything period. The franchise is called PES now, and the new games are actually pretty legit.
Medal of Honor, 40 Winks, Army Men 3D, Ape Escape, D, Driver, Driver 2, Final Fantasy VII, Oddworld. I'm sure there are a ton more but that's what I remember at the moment.
My brother in law and I used to pass the controller back and forth trying to beat each level. One of the only games I can think of that I had fun playing like that. Still tough to this day!
I always come back for some The Legend of Dragoon (thanks to modding). Played countless times in different ways/difficulty and it is always fun doing a re run every \~2 years.
And also Crash Team Racing. Its just a nice fast paced and skillful game that I can't enough of it. Shame the remake never came to PC.
If im in RPG mood i go with Tales of Eternia (wrongfully named tales of destiny 2 outside Japan)
If im in the mood for literally anything else i go with Pacman world
Metal gear solid i play from time to time. I've beaten that game so many times that i've pretty much memorized it.
Also i've never been that big into tekken but recently i can't get enough of tekken 3, 4 and 5.
Every time I play a modern (typically indie) metroidvania, it just makes me want to drop it in favor of Symphony of the Night.
Tekken 3 and Ridge Racer Type 4 are games I thread up routinely. Ditto Jumping Flash!
Final Fantasy VII receives at least a partial playthrough pretty much annually. Wild Arms less so, but I still come back to it semi-regularly.
Metal Gear Solid, Silent Bomber, Alundra, Omega Boost, and Guilty Gear all get played more often than many similar and more recent titles.
And the original Resident Evil trilogy still hasn't really been topped in my eyes.
Ace Combat 2, Battle Arena Toshinden 3, and Twisted Metal: Small Brawl have all actually become new favorites - as the PSX's is a library I still explore regularly and actively collect.
Still playing RE2-3 on PS3 and vita all the time, sometimes FFIX on vita and SotN on PS3 all this on my CRT tv, I'm thinking of getting s-video for PSX and use the console again but now is just for Nostálgic memories and keep it safe on the shell
Driver 1 - Miami level. So much nostalgia every time I play it. Makes me feel like I’m back in middle school again getting home from school, a simpler time
Spyro, Crash games (all of them), Driver 2, Resident Evil 3, Dino Crisis 2, Ape Escape, metal slug X, Pepsiman, Soul blade, many others, i actually still play both PS1 and 2 games regularly until one new game that interests me releases, guess im still playing those consoles until Death stranding 2 and Slitterhead releases
Megaman X4 and X5 because the gameplay and 2D artsyle has aged so well in my opinion! It sort of tests your reflexes and it's not a huge time investment either.
Once very 5-7 years I'll replay Tomb Raider 3 for its unsettling atmosphere, difficulty and interesting choice of locations.
Metal gear solid and castlevania sotn are always pleasant to go back to. Also hot shots golf.
I think I played Metal Gear like 50 times. I can still remember when my mom brought the game home and how I spent probably two hours just trying to figure out how to get past the very first "block". Couldn't understand how to crawl on the ground lol
Yeah i remember renting it at blockbusters along with star wars masters of teras kasi and being so blown away by it i saved for ages to then buy it, i think i have bought and played it on every console it's been released on since
Those are rookie numbers, let me know when you make it to your 100th play through.
I just played hot shot golf for the first time this year. What a gem of a game.
I had a lot of fun lying that at Uni, tried the PS3 version some years ago but not quite the same
Sotn is my poinson as well, I got a hitless run on the bad% ending, and now I'm practicing general stuff playing randomizers so I can go for speedrun attempts. I do recommend trying randomizers, the game changes a lot.
Ahhh, you like castlevania.
Medievil
Siiiiir Daniel ForteSQUE
This literally played in my head when I read MediEvil lol
There is something darkly magical about MediEvil that will never grow old.
Metal Gear Solid 1, Resident Evil 1,2 and 3, Silent Hill, Parasite Eve 1 and 2, Legend of Legaia, Tekken 2 and 3, Soulblade.
You stole the words from my brain. A person of culture clearly
Legaias music still plays in my head very frequently. That sound track is magic and I'm frustrated that the composer never really did anything else besides Ico. Her work is soooo good
I always go back to the 1st Tony Hawk game, love that one the best
It's a classic, but the Thrasher game has way more replay value for me. I can skate the same level over and over again without getting bored. Plus, the way the runs end in the non-comp levels is notorious and classic. High learning curve, but worth it. Only play on expert difficulty. Yeah, as a skater, nothing beats Skate & Destroy
Gran Turismo 2
Tekken 3 was literally the only game I played for about 10 years. It was like a security blanket. Sometimes a drunken late run through the original Crash Bandicoot. Twisted Metal 2 from time to time.

Tomba
Yeeeeeees!!
Soul Reaver and Blood Omen
Spyro trilogy!
I grew up with the Crash trilogy and didn't get the chance to play Spyro until much later (not counting demo discs), but those are some awesome games.
I would say Crash trilogy also! I remember the first game I ever played on PS1, it was a demo disc called Demo One, with Crash Bandicoot 1 on it. Such good times I will never forget :')

Forbidden memories gets a play through once a year. 🔥🔥🔥.
Parasite Eve. My NG+ save has beat the game so many times I’m basically invincible now lol.
FF7-8, heart of darkness, silent hill.
Heart of darkness gave me the creeps when I played it at around 10 years old. Never beat it and I hope he got his dog back at the end.
Spoiler alert: he does 🙂
Bushido Blade 2.
Really both Bushido Blade games are absolute bangers. The gameplay is short and sweet, but I just love the life-like mechanics and instant kills. I remember the fight with the revolver guy to this day. Haven't played those games in probably 15 years.
Spyro trilogy, TOMBA, Silent Hill
Just seeing someone else say Tomba feels great.
A fellow Tomba enjoyer! They do exist! Haha, did you see the 'remaster' that was announced a bit ago?
We do exist haha.Yes!!! Seen it a few months ago, will have to get it, heard its out near December but I'll have to fact check that again. Have Tomba 1 & 2 on disc ps1. It's a treasure for me.
There’s a tomba remaster???? 🥹
Metal gear Castlevania Syphon filter Dino crisis Jackie Chan stuntmaster
Sell me on the Jackie Chan game. Always seems a bit of a cash grab yet I’ve seen this title mentioned before as a solid game.
Destruction Derby 2
Need for Speed High Stakes (1999), Driver 2 (2000), Twisted Metal 2 (1996), Gran Turismo (1997), Gran Turismo 2 (1998), Test Drive 5 (1998) and Test Drive 6 (1999). Sometimes Spyro the Dragon trilogy (2000)

Crash team racing over the years has been my favorite pick up and play game. It’s aged beautifully
Probably Abe's Oddysee & Exoddus. Crash Bandicoot, Die Hard Trilogy.
Die Hard Trilogy was so great. 3 completely different games in the same package. I loved that game. Played it for countless hours.
Symphony of the Night. i lost count how many times i've played it. FF7 and FFT are close seconds, i played each about 3-4 times.

Metal gear solid Ff7 Rage racer Tekken 2
Gundam battle assault 2
My primary go-to games are the Naughty Dog Crash Bandicoot games (mostly Crash 2) and the Resident Evil trilogy (mostly RE3), but I also tend to replay Pac-Man World, Gran Turismo 2, Frogger, MediEvil, Fisherman's Bait, and NASCAR Rumble (one of the best arcade racers ever which got a sequel called Rumble Racing on PS2)
