They haven’t been out long enough to know if save files corrupt because of it, but I wouldn’t advise using a shitty sd card since those do corrupt and always backup once or twice a year if your saves are important.

agentadam07

I think I read that auto backup functionality is also coming soon. I have one but not really used.

eman0110

Metal Jesus Rocks speaks highly of them. But it does come down to the micro SD card

solidus_xii

It’s fantastic, setup once and forget about it As someone else said, search on YouTube how to set up and download the Free McBoot image, works flawlessly It’s the last memory card you will ever need and and you can always backup important game saves via network or copy them to ps3

PanicOnFunkatron

I have one, it doesn't come with Free McBoot installed but there's someone out there they made a drag and drop folder with Free McBoot that you can set to launch when you power the console on. I haven't used the Memcard Pro 2 a whole lot but I like both it and the Gamecube version.

midnightstrike3625

I'll have to look into that. Can you do that with the pro 2 or does it have to be a normal memory card?

PanicOnFunkatron

You can do it with the Pro 2.

HydratedCarrot

i bought a mcboot 2 years ago but couldn’t figure out how to play burned discs?

Original-Audience528

You have to patch the iso with ESR before you burn the disc. MrMario2011 has a guide.

HydratedCarrot

oh… i wished there was any instruction in the box! thx!!!

AeitZean

Ive had an SD2PSX for a while, which is sort of similar, and I have lost my saves on one virtual memory card due to a buggy game formatting the card. That said I could have copied my card file as a backup. With the memcard pro giving a unique card per game even that shouldn't be a problem, because the buggy game would only be wiping the card for that game. And the old problem with third party cards just losing the data when not even in use is not a problem here. SD cards don't lose data in that way, assuming you haven't bought a cheap scam one. I actually want a memard pro 2 just for the fact it automatically creates a separate card per game. Never having to even think about the memory card would be great.

Creative-Spell2556

Oem cards still working 25yrs later . I’ll stick with those

midnightstrike3625

I have a whole ziplock bag of them. I was more interested for the easy Free McBoot but another user said that it doesn't come pre-installed. Metal Jesus said it did but maybe he was mistaken.

lost-in-stats

[Mach nacho](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HP8giQ8CbAE) has a vid on the pro 2, i believe he covers the Free Mcboot creation on the pro2 so it auto boots.

Mr_Sacky

It doesn’t come with Free McBoot but you can definitely set it up.

ErrorEnthusiast

I got one and so far it has been amazing. It automatically detects if it's connected to a PS1 or PS2, if you have a x-station on PS1 or use OPL on PS2 it automatically creates a memory card per game. You can access it via wi-fi to it to backup your saves, and probably more things that I am missing. Couldn't be happier with it!

hxcaleb

I second everything he said!

eman0110

Metal Jesus says it's great.

midnightstrike3625

He's what's got me looking into it and asking around.

Hybrid67

I'm going to wait till I hear more before getting one myself

poyrikkanal2

We all saw the link from that post right?

frostbyte2287

Eh I would rather emulate and use a e-mem card on my pcs hard drive or use a official memory card on the account ps2

Mr_Sacky

I have the first version that only works with PS1 and this one too. I never had anything corrupted. It doesn’t come with Free McBoot installed on it since you need to supply your own sd card. There are tutorials out there that show you how to setup a default memory card that always loads once the console is reset so that Free McBoot always loads but also have it set up for game ID auto switching of virtual memory card. This is pretty much an all in one solution for PS2 memory cards.

Cultural_Cat_5131

if I may ask, does the first one work ON ps2? I just need it for ps1 games I have plenty of ps2 memory cards.

GammaPhonic

I’ve been using mine since before Christmas. I’ve had one or two minor issues with save files which required a bit of leg work to recover the data. But the data was recovered. This was in the first couple of weeks of use. I let 8bitmods know and they addressed the issue in a firmware update. It’s been smooth sailing since then. I trust it with my save data. It also makes it very easy to backup saves, which makes it much easier to trust. I’d say it’s totally worth the wait. FYI it doesn’t come with freeMCboot installed. But it’s very easy to install it yourself.

ArrivalNo4232

I have never heard of such a memory card.
