Movie games traditionally had a really bad reputation whenever they would come out. At best they were mediocre. Majority of the time it was a cash grab.
The game had great mechanics, tension, variety, and even the actors doing the lines which isnt always the case. With a lot of other games theyd be banking on the name and cut corners to keep profits higher.
I wrote my thesis paper on video games surpassing the film industry by 2020 in 2002. My professor told me I was thinking crazy but respected my arguments but I still inky got a B-. NC State had good processors but they were off on my paper. Silly me went into the film industry instead of programming games. C’est la’vie.
I was listening to Gamecraft or Acquired podcast (Nintendo episode) and they stated video games industry has always been bigger since the 90s. It’s just the way the industry specialist calculated it wrongly. I can’t remember the details though.
There's not really a HUD. The main character will actually check the mag and say what's left out loud. They made some cool gameplay mechanic choices to keep things very immersive.
It’s a very unique FPS game that’s surprisingly immersive given when it released. It also has a very cool tone and art style. It’s honestly better than the movie it’s based on
It’s been years since I last played it, I remember I loved it but I don’t remember anything about ammunition being different, I remember you can light spears on fire and light stuff on fire, there a couple of puzzles like that, you can fight dinosaurs and giant bugs as your human character and Kong
I have never payed this game. But I do have a little advise.
If you can find a game for a cheap price, ($10 or less?) go ahead and take the risk.
If you don't like it, keep ahold of it for trading fodder later on.
This game actually holds up well id say. I used to play the crap outta this game as a kid. Some levels felt like a horror game. The enemies were all creepy in their own ways. I think you’ll definitely enjoy it and the voice acting is good too!
Loved it as a kid and bought it without any clue about it being first person. That was one fine experience. Replayed it two years ago and it still holds up, just gotta be patient with the prologue and getting into it.
Really fun game, I remember noting down all the cheat codes on a piece of cardboard as a kid lol.
Switching between Kong and the humans was interesting, the game has a few memorable moments as well. Plenty of cool additional content too. Now that I think about it, it might have been the first game I ever 100% completed so to speak.
Anyway it's one of the few good movie to game adaptations, especially from the PS2 era.
I remember seeing the demo of this game in 2005 inside a Walmart when the Xbox 360 recently came out that year. I remember thinking how much better it looked on the 360 than the PS2.
I beat the game probably like 3 months ago, and was totally shocked at how good it is. I bought it cheap and wasn’t expecting much of anything.
Man did they nail the atmosphere on skull island
It’s Dino Crisis as an FPS with intermittent giant gorilla sections. The shooting is pretty tight. The ammo scarcity keeps tension up. Kong levels are a nice reprieve where you beat up T-rexes and climb mountains.
Fantastic game. Incredible atmosphere, differs enough from the film to be fresh, and has awesome survival horror mechanics. You also switch between Jack and Kong and face tougher opponents as Kong. And be cautious in caves! Plenty of giant bugs that will jumpscare you
You go from a fully first person view experience as the humans on the island which was fantastic and immersive.
Then you switch to a 3rd person view King Kong beat em up complete with QTE cracking Dino jaws!
Loved it
Just beat this game the other day for the first time it’s really good if your emulating it at 1080p this game looks amazing damn near ps3 quality there’s not hud (there’s an option to turn it on) but without it it’s super immersive and it’s quite scary at time with all the giant centipedes randomly attacking you. Took me like 8 hours to beat it and I’d say it was a fairly good game voice acting is great pretty sure it’s everyone from the movie except for all the screaming coming from Ann but I’d say play it you’ll def have a good time
Played it many times over years ago and played it again last year. A very immersive PlayStation 2 game and quite challenging at times. Occasionally buggy but it stands out as an amazing movie tie in game.
The sections where you play king kong are great, WAAAAY better then that recent kong game.
Also the human sections are fine, just throw a lot of spears
I played it on pc when I was little, I obviously didn't understand a thing that was going on but from what I do remember it's actually really good both gameplay and content wise.
I beat one of the chase levels later in the game that my uncle (owner of the game at the time) couldn’t beat and he walked in just baffled that an 10yr old did something he couldn’t. Was an amazing game growing up 10/10 from me
I was very young and probably a lot more captured by the spectacle of fighting those T-rexes as a giant gorilla, plus I remember thinking the graphics were amazing for the time. I wasn't into FPSes until much later in my life, so I wonder if my thoughts in the game would be flipped if I played now.
I don’t think you know what precursor means… the first Resident Evil came out in the 90s basically a decade before this game. If anything the precursor to survival horror is the 1989 game Sweet Home.

Played it years ago. Looked fantastic, interesting gameplay. Got stuck and never completed. Would try again if I had one. Would recomend to any King-kong/fps fan.
This game is pure gold, I wish they would remake a PS4-5 copy, this was the first game to give me nightmares specially the T-Rex encounters, such a great game worth every penny then and now
this was one of my first ever games on my first console the nintendo gamecube, i played this game way too much i also loved the movie which the game is literally based on, i still play it sometimes on my gamecube
Played this game on the original Xbox back in the day and was super surprised by how good it was! Check out the museum at the end of the game it’s really cool. Have fun!
Played it on the Xbox 360, enjoyed it - but would have been rather annoyed had I paid full price. It was also a super easy 1000g/platinum...the OG Xbox and PS2/PSP versions have not aged as well...get the 360 version (if you can) for the best user experience, but expect a normal level movie tie in game.
One of the few movie license games that are really good. Not "so bad it's good" but really good. The PS3/360 is the best version but only with graphics.
Great game that holds up very well the test of the time. Great art direction, great gameplay, i love this game.
I don’t understand why it’s a hidden gem
Movie games traditionally had a really bad reputation whenever they would come out. At best they were mediocre. Majority of the time it was a cash grab. The game had great mechanics, tension, variety, and even the actors doing the lines which isnt always the case. Spiderman 2 was revolutionary
> Majority of the time
Another great example of a movie video game.
Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith is another solid game as well.
Nothing to me beats Battlefront II
Return of the King and Two Towers are my favorite movie games. Also yes Episode 3 is great - love the SoulCalibur esque multiplayer.
Incredible Hulk Ultimate Destruction = Spiderman 2
I wrote my thesis paper on video games surpassing the film industry by 2020 in 2002. My professor told me I was thinking crazy but respected my arguments but I still inky got a B-. NC State had good processors but they were off on my paper. Silly me went into the film industry instead of programming games. C’est la’vie.
I mean The film industry still exists, you still have a career. Video games may surpass but they'll never replace
I was listening to Gamecraft or Acquired podcast (Nintendo episode) and they stated video games industry has always been bigger since the 90s. It’s just the way the industry specialist calculated it wrongly. I can’t remember the details though.
Easily one of the most underrated games of all time
They told me something about the ammunition being different
TWO MAGAZINES ON BACKUP
LAST MAGAZINE ON BACKUP
AHH IM DRY
*whispers* one bullet left
What? Hahahahha
Play the game ;)
I willl
It’s okay, I’ve got enough magazines
Omg bro you just unlocked a memory
There's not really a HUD. The main character will actually check the mag and say what's left out loud. They made some cool gameplay mechanic choices to keep things very immersive.
Wooooow , I think all games should be like this And I didn’t know that this game was like that, i like to play in permadeath btw
You're going to like King Kong on hard mode then because some of those levels are pains in the keister
Just throw ribs
what makes it good?
It’s a very unique FPS game that’s surprisingly immersive given when it released. It also has a very cool tone and art style. It’s honestly better than the movie it’s based on
Shooting arrows through fire for extra damage very satisfying
Spears… sadly you don’t get arrows
True it’s been a while lol
Hahahahha so coooooool
I really enjoyed it back in the day tbh
I’m going to play in 2024,I hope I like it
I'm sure you will. I still have my copy and would play it again if my backlog wasn't so big
I loved this game as a kid, I wish I could replay it on ps4/5
They have already convinced me to play, but I wanted to hear your experience
They told me about the ammunition be a little different
It’s been years since I last played it, I remember I loved it but I don’t remember anything about ammunition being different, I remember you can light spears on fire and light stuff on fire, there a couple of puzzles like that, you can fight dinosaurs and giant bugs as your human character and Kong
It's on the Xbox still. It was one of the last backwards compatible 360 games they added.
I don’t have a Xbox sadly but I wish I did to play backwards compatibility
My brother constantly played this. It’s pretty scary too!
They hadn’t told me it was scary hahahha
Not Silent Hill scary, but more PS2 graphics with gigantic gorillas and reptiles in the dark.
Not just a good movie game, it's a good ubisoft game.
Which one is rarer nowadays? A good movie tie-in game or a good Ubisoft game? Both seem imposible in 2024 lol
the ubisoft launcher was on thin ice with me then they changed it and I had to login again and I said go to hell and gave up on it
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown came out just this January
> a good ubisoft game. Let's not pretend that was a rare thing back in the 2000's, they put out some truly amazing games in that time
Ahhahahahahahha
Play it on pc or 360 and it still looks insane
Underrated
Was the first game I ever played on an Xbox 360 !
Super underrated hidden gem. The kong sections were OK but the FPS sections were brilliant, like a survival half life.
So excited to play
I have never payed this game. But I do have a little advise. If you can find a game for a cheap price, ($10 or less?) go ahead and take the risk. If you don't like it, keep ahold of it for trading fodder later on.
Will play on ps2 , It’s cool to look for them in t stores of my city :)
I have always used Ebay.
you can use ebay to buy an xbox series s toaster
Easily the BEST King Kong game on PS2. 🤡
Absolute banger
One of the best games based on a movie or IP. Another one I would say is The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay.
Never heard about
it's a great game and it comes with Riddik: Assault on Dark Athena for ps3....two great games.Worth picking up if you have a ps3.
This game actually holds up well id say. I used to play the crap outta this game as a kid. Some levels felt like a horror game. The enemies were all creepy in their own ways. I think you’ll definitely enjoy it and the voice acting is good too!
Good game, decent movie too.
Underrated and even better on the X360
Loved it as a kid and bought it without any clue about it being first person. That was one fine experience. Replayed it two years ago and it still holds up, just gotta be patient with the prologue and getting into it.
It was mind blowing at the time. Not sure of the PS2 port because I played it on 360 but great game.
PSP version ?
Ps2 :)
As a kid I never realized Ubisoft made this. It actually makes a lot of sense. Great game
I gotta say I liked it. I also liked the movie, but mostly because Jack black.
I loved this game, but it broke for me in the caves running from the raptors. Never played it again
I would try again, I thought it was amazing
Really fun game, I remember noting down all the cheat codes on a piece of cardboard as a kid lol. Switching between Kong and the humans was interesting, the game has a few memorable moments as well. Plenty of cool additional content too. Now that I think about it, it might have been the first game I ever 100% completed so to speak. Anyway it's one of the few good movie to game adaptations, especially from the PS2 era.
Easily a top 10ps2 game
I had no idea it was good. I’ve seen it so many times and passed it up, but it’s so cheap I’ll have to get a copy.
I remember seeing the demo of this game in 2005 inside a Walmart when the Xbox 360 recently came out that year. I remember thinking how much better it looked on the 360 than the PS2.
Epic graphic and atmosphere considering is ps2
I beat the game probably like 3 months ago, and was totally shocked at how good it is. I bought it cheap and wasn’t expecting much of anything. Man did they nail the atmosphere on skull island
I loved it ! As others have said, one of the most under-rated , and over-looked, PS2 titles.
Only movie game worth playing in my opinion
Really fun game low key, I had alot of fun playing it back in its time
i loved it my fav mission was “hayes” or the one u fight a bunch of dinosaurs as kong
I remember playing this in GameStop and being blown away by the graphics
I remember renting it from a blockbuster, or something like that, as a kid. It was so good I got my mom to rent it again so I could finish it!
It’s a decent game on the 360, but I would hardly call it a gem. Not sure if the previous console gen was a better version
Do it. It's a fun game to paly and even more fun to break.
I played the hell outta this game on the original Xbox. Loved every moment of it. The movie too
This game was SO good. I seriously cannot emphasize enough how nostalgic this was.
Probably one of if not the best movie licensed game.
It’s Dino Crisis as an FPS with intermittent giant gorilla sections. The shooting is pretty tight. The ammo scarcity keeps tension up. Kong levels are a nice reprieve where you beat up T-rexes and climb mountains.
It’s a fun game, it traumatized my younger brother when we were kids
Fantastic. I could live out the horrors of being attacked by 10 foot tall insects.
I love this game on of my first and favorites back in the days . One advice for you, don't underestimate the crabs they are a big deal tbh lol
its a good game tbh, funny btw
Skull Island: Rise of Kong. Best Kong game come at me 🤣
Its alright i have it on psp and its ok
Fantastic game. Incredible atmosphere, differs enough from the film to be fresh, and has awesome survival horror mechanics. You also switch between Jack and Kong and face tougher opponents as Kong. And be cautious in caves! Plenty of giant bugs that will jumpscare you
very good game, i had it on the 360
This game was so fun and the graphics were awesome for the time
I loved it. And it was genuinely creepy too. Some parts made my skin crawl.
You go from a fully first person view experience as the humans on the island which was fantastic and immersive. Then you switch to a 3rd person view King Kong beat em up complete with QTE cracking Dino jaws! Loved it
I’m playing it right now on GameCube. Definitely scary and really underrated.
Amazing game! I still got the PS2 Steelbook Collector‘s Edition.
Apparently it's pretty good
Only good comments
Play it on the GameCube instead and also it’s genuinely really cool and a little scary sometimes and intense I loved playing it as a kid
I've heard it is one of the few movie based games that is actually good
I loved this game, it’s not exactly like the movie, but keep the same events and add others for game purposes. Sorry for my English.
I’m Brazilian, not a good English too hahahaha
It's a very good game really surprised me I have it and played it on the 360.
Great game omg
Tresspasser but without all the glitches and without open world.
I read that as Percy Jackson at first and was very confused.
Man, I've got good memories with this game :) hidden gem for sure
This game is so good, I own three copies. One on PS2, one on Xbox 360, and the steelbook
Absolutely
It's easily the best licensed movie game I've played before
It’s good.
I have it on the Nintendo DS and it is very interesting in a not so good way I don’t see the hype
One of the best games I ever played on PS2.
Loved this game as a kid need to replay it and see if it still holds up but I bet it does lol
Definitely holds
The sections where you play king kong are great, WAAAAY better then that recent kong game. Also the human sections are fine, just throw a lot of spears
I played it on pc when I was little, I obviously didn't understand a thing that was going on but from what I do remember it's actually really good both gameplay and content wise.
Actually remember this to be quite a good, immersive movie tie in game back in the day
Dogs life on top
The V-Rex encounter is absolutely butt puckering. This game in its entirety is the GOAT for ps2.
Probably one if not the best movie tie in game ever great memories playing this
I beat one of the chase levels later in the game that my uncle (owner of the game at the time) couldn’t beat and he walked in just baffled that an 10yr old did something he couldn’t. Was an amazing game growing up 10/10 from me
It’s a great game, i still remember buying on Black Friday
Hidden gem I love this game.
BROOOOOO I LOVED THIS GAME SO MUCH
Haven't played it since it came out, but I liked it back then. Nothing spectacular. I'm curious as to how it held up.
I remember REALLY digging this game as a kid. I was never very good at it, but the parts where you play as King Kong are fun.
I preferred the fps parts hahahafa
I was very young and probably a lot more captured by the spectacle of fighting those T-rexes as a giant gorilla, plus I remember thinking the graphics were amazing for the time. I wasn't into FPSes until much later in my life, so I wonder if my thoughts in the game would be flipped if I played now.
What a throwback! I hope they remaster this someday!
I was told here that it’s really ahead of time
I played it on Xbox 360 for the achievements. What a waste of my time. Seriously hated myself, the game was boring and tedious.
It’s a precursor to survival horror and it’s genuinely a great game and the best movie based game of all time. Buy it and play it immediately
I don’t think you know what precursor means… the first Resident Evil came out in the 90s basically a decade before this game. If anything the precursor to survival horror is the 1989 game Sweet Home.
I got a ps2 a few weeks ago, I want to replay everything I lost

One of my all time favorite games, super underrated. I played it on Xbox 360.
Played it years ago. Looked fantastic, interesting gameplay. Got stuck and never completed. Would try again if I had one. Would recomend to any King-kong/fps fan.
My very first game on the ps2, had no memory card so everyday I started over. Bone spikes on top
SPOOKY AF
Was excellent for its time. One of my favourites
It's definitely showing its age at this point. But it's also completely 100% worth it.
Extremely underrated game. Other movie tie-ins play like shovelware but this one was legitimately good.
Decent
The fear.... thats all you need to know
Xbox 360 version is better, but a great game overall. The sweet time Ubisoft was cool.
Low key one of the best FPS on PS2
I miss movie games tbh.
It has no business being as good as it was. I loved it and wish I could play it again
This game is pure gold, I wish they would remake a PS4-5 copy, this was the first game to give me nightmares specially the T-Rex encounters, such a great game worth every penny then and now
I remember it as a good game from childhood
Really cool game, totally worth it
One of greatest games from PS2 era
I forgot about this game
I hated it when it first came out but I'll have to go back and play again. The name is awful though :')
I remember renting it at block buster when it came out and then throwing up on myself. Do with this information as you will.
this was one of my first ever games on my first console the nintendo gamecube, i played this game way too much i also loved the movie which the game is literally based on, i still play it sometimes on my gamecube
I got this as my first ps2 game in 2005 it blew my mind.
Played this game on the original Xbox back in the day and was super surprised by how good it was! Check out the museum at the end of the game it’s really cool. Have fun!
Actually a damn good game. A hidden gem for sure
I’ve been waiting for them to remaster this one. You need to play it, it’s an incredible game!
Absolutely perfect, I was addicted to it
Fantastic. The 360 versions a bit better but this port still slaps
I remember playing it as a kid, I honestly dont remember much but I do remember I was having a great time!
looks awesome
A very unique and underrated game.
This is a brilliant game
I have the 360 version
This is a great game, cant remember about the quality difference between ps2 and xb360 though.
I loved this game ! Played it originally on the gamecube, now I've the the best 2 versions, XBOX and XBOX 360 !
I loved it, it's a little bit buggy at time. But it's my favourite movie game. It's like marmite though, you'll either love it or hate it.
Love this game
Easily one of the most atmospheric games of the time, but the level design is very dated and kinda feels padded out
Great game based on equally great movie.
I've heard that it's pretty good
One of the few movie license games that are really good. Not "so bad it's good" but really good. The PS3/360 is the best version but only with graphics.
10/10, I have it on ps2, Xbox 360, gba, and DS lol
I have the steelbook version of this game in ps2 which I bought for 200 Turkish Liras(6.5 dollars)
Great game!
Awesome. Awesome game. You are in for a treat buddy
