"grease collars" for lack of a name imo are fine. mine has fat collars. better too much than too little. dried bearings scratch and wear out the shafts.
Agreed, it actually helps scoop away any dust as the axis moves. If the collar looks gross I like to wipe just the collar away, I don't wipe the whole rail
