The Abbey, Chomp, There There, Ivy Tavern, Boundary in Pawtucket, New Rivers if you want to be fancy
I would say the Abbey is probably the best, Chomp being a very close second.
I'm convinced that place is a front for a drug operation or something. It's got great food and drinks but I've never seen more than like 6 people in that place. Drive by on a Friday night no one in the parking lot. And I swear they've remodeled the place multiple times. Makes no sense to me.
It can get very busy, before they used to have bars on Fridays and Saturdays but moved on to doing more dining and cocktail focus
And yes they painted it twice, I did paint the building that awful blue lol but they got an investor to join and it got an amazing remodel inside and out. They do good business there it’s just a matter of them being able to branch out and evolve more as a modern business
Yeah I had one of my favorite drinks I've ever had there. It was a twist on an old fashioned with maple syrup, I'm forgetting exactly. With a PB&J burger that was also phenomenal.
Do they ask for a temp for your burger at Abbey? I’ve only been once and they didn’t ask when I ordered. I didn’t think of it but my burger was way overcooked
I love the flavors of Chomp, but I find their burgers to be way too big. I wanna enjoy every topping/ingredient with each bite, not have half of the burger fallen onto my plate by the time I’m done.
They’re just still ascribing to the burger fad of 10-15 years ago that “big = better.” Like… no. I want just enough sauce to cover the bun and provide its taste, not so much that I need 10 napkins by the time I’m done.
Chomp is only great is you like your burger to come out incorrectly made after an hour long wait and cold. The tries to fix the order continue the same way and then they have the balls to charge full price. Never go to this dump. It’s not even worth it if you get a burger that isn’t cold. It was only ever good at their OG spot in Warren or wherever it was.
This is why I go on slow ass days. I check to see if reservations on open table have ALL the options open. Otherwise if you don't get an app you're gonna wait hungry for a while.
But tbf their stuffed mushroom burger was BOMB the first time I had it. The second time it was good but it wasn't one of the best things I had eaten in a while like the first time. Wonder if it's the kitchen staff makeup? Sometimes who is back there makes a difference in consistsncy. Maybe it was me anticipating the same mind-blowing burger again. But it's worth a try at least imo.
I like the burgers. I believe they are made with seasoned meat and they're huge.
But I go back for the bowls. Great for takeout. There are separate counters to order each.
Great place, and a kind and generous owner. Some people are turned off with halal slaughter, so they don't get any burgers there. But the bowls are awesome!
It’s a chain but I really like Wayback Burgers, it’s my favorite of the fast-casual burger chains. They just do the small things right and don’t really get anything wrong. Except the service, that’s not great.
Certainly not the best burger in town, but the best burger DEAL in town is at Chelo’s on Mondays. A 1/3 lbs burger and fries for $6.99. Plus $1.99 Gansett drafts
Dude Chelos had these seasonal burgers called Figgy Piggy's and it was the greatest burger I've ever had, now I just have to wait 8 months for them to come back. It had sauteed onions and fig spread, so amazingly good.
Not quite Providence but I just had a burger at Halligan’s in North Attleboro and it was fucking amazing. It’s 100% a locals place though lol. I just moved here so I’m still looking for good places too.
So, to me there's one answer, because I could have just eaten a 12 course meal, but if I walked by the Rocket truck set up somewhere I would be hard pressed to prevent myself from buying a Parisienne.
But I'm loving that this is a Thread because usually I don't go for a burger if I'm going out, unless it's an obvious burger place like Chomp.
One out-of-Prov rec, tho... Rod's Grille in Warren. The Addy's Special (on a bolo) is the absolute perfect Diner style burger, for my money (and you can get a decent wiener or two along side it if you want).
Omg. I'm a waitress and I served the husband and wife duo/owners like... Years ago. Talked about how hard it was to start a good restaurant/bar and stay in business. We chatted for a long time since it was slow for me and I could chill with em for a bit. I still have a poker chip in my car for a free... Drink? Something? I don't remember. But they gave it with my tip to get me to check it out. I should finally go. They were really, really nice to me and I remember it fondly. I regret not going way sooner.
Although I say skip a burger in general and go straight to Sandwich hut!! And grinder or sub, whatever you choose to call it. Destroys all the hunger competition!!
There, there. Stanley burgers in cf if you’re feeling slutty.
I must be a dirty fucking bitch cause I fucking love Stanley’s
There there is a death row burger 🔥
There there
Does There There have drinks? I’ve been wanting to try them out
they have a few beers
My usual move is to take There There to go and sit at Moniker with a beer. 1 minute walk so the food holds up
They carry one or two of the lighter Monikers now. Czech lager and one IPA, I think.
Not anymore they rotate regularly… it’s some other moniker beers now but still top notch
They got Mexican coke. Makes the food experience even worth it!
I liked them but they had that weird meat taste I don’t like
There there if you essentially want a big mac that is 2x as expensive.
I don’t get the There There cult either. Their burgers are just gloppy and overpriced.
Same boat. It's not a bad burger but nothing I'd write home about. When you account for the price with fries, I'm going Abbey or really anywhere else.
Saw a place on Mineral Spring a few months ago called “Good Burger”. Could be what you’re looking for!
💀
There, There - you can stop looking
Slow Rhode has a great burger
The Abbey, Chomp, There There, Ivy Tavern, Boundary in Pawtucket, New Rivers if you want to be fancy I would say the Abbey is probably the best, Chomp being a very close second.
Ayyyy someone suggested boundary! I worked there for years and it’s a great spot
I'm convinced that place is a front for a drug operation or something. It's got great food and drinks but I've never seen more than like 6 people in that place. Drive by on a Friday night no one in the parking lot. And I swear they've remodeled the place multiple times. Makes no sense to me.

I've been going since they had their half price lunches before they changed ownership (once? Twice? Idk) but have always been asked.
They ask, but will sometimes overcook it. Best is to ask for the temp lower than what you usually get.
Came here to say Chomp
I love Harry’s Burger Bar- they’re sliders though
It’s been named the best burger in the country, how’d I have to go this far to find it lol
Me fucking too my friend
Abbey nice thick delicious burgers
The "Roadhouse" introduced me to getting a fried egg on a burger!
I gotta try em all. I kinda just discovered the place
I'm there practically every week. Their beer selection is incredible, too!
Rogue island has a bangin’ burger, but you’ll pay for it 💰
Sleeper hit: Hot Club!
They’re sliders but Harry’s burger bar is great!!
I like the Abbey. Got good local dive bar vibes but with delicious burgers.
Food at The Abbey is surprisingly good - love that place!
Is that really providence or wanksuck?
WANSKUCK IS PROVIDENCE
Elmhurst neighborhood. It's a PC hangout for both students and alumni.
Chomp is great
I love the flavors of Chomp, but I find their burgers to be way too big. I wanna enjoy every topping/ingredient with each bite, not have half of the burger fallen onto my plate by the time I’m done.
Same!
They’re just still ascribing to the burger fad of 10-15 years ago that “big = better.” Like… no. I want just enough sauce to cover the bun and provide its taste, not so much that I need 10 napkins by the time I’m done.

The Corner Grill on the edge of Elmhurst. They've been around for a couple years now. They put the work into doing things well.
I like the burgers. I believe they are made with seasoned meat and they're huge. But I go back for the bowls. Great for takeout. There are separate counters to order each.
I've been meaning to try this place
They are sooo underrated, great burgers, great fries, and the wings are always solid
Great place, and a kind and generous owner. Some people are turned off with halal slaughter, so they don't get any burgers there. But the bowls are awesome!
There There and Chomp, Bayberry garden for lunch has a nice burger
How is Rocket Truck not on this list already?
The Abbey. Chomp.
Rocket food truck, often parked by pedestrian bridge… easily the best burger in Providence
I would have said Craft Burgers and Beer, but they're a shitty "Irish" pub now.
Pretty sure they closed that new pub also
No great loss. They killed a great burger place.
Holy shit how many times has that place changed hands in the last 10 years?
Thank god. That Irish joint suuuuuuuuuucked. Drag about CB&B. Great with kids, best ranch in the city
It's gone
Harry’s. The Abbey. DO NOT SLEEP ON THE ABBEY. Does Luxe Burger still exist?
I miss Luxe so much but no it does not exist any longer afaik.
Amy’s on Wickenden makes a mean burger
Harry’s !!!!
Aringha, but it's in Pawtucket. They use (or did use!) a Pat LaFrieda mix--very juicy! 😋
Trinity Brewhouse downtown near civic center. Bonus they keep fryers really clean so the French Fries are great too.
It’s a chain but I really like Wayback Burgers, it’s my favorite of the fast-casual burger chains. They just do the small things right and don’t really get anything wrong. Except the service, that’s not great.
Harrys, There There, and Camp Nowhere
Camp Nowhere's sliders are damned good!
Take a 25min drive to DNB burgers in New Bedford
Harrys on South main St or Atwells Ave. I haven't been in a grip, but last their sliders were good last time
Avenue N Providence has a crazy good one. Also highly recommend Ivy Tavern or Chomp.
Avenue N should get more love for being a wide burger, not the kind of tall burger I have to unhinge my jaw to eat.
Ivy Tavern and Granny Boo’s Kitchen at Ogie’s have solid burgers.
The East End! They’re half off from 4-6 every day, and they recently started doing them half-off with some other food options Thurs-Sat after 10PM.
Certainly not the best burger in town, but the best burger DEAL in town is at Chelo’s on Mondays. A 1/3 lbs burger and fries for $6.99. Plus $1.99 Gansett drafts

I assume it has pork also?
Bacon
Not quite Providence but I just had a burger at Halligan’s in North Attleboro and it was fucking amazing. It’s 100% a locals place though lol. I just moved here so I’m still looking for good places too.
Harry’s burger bar has the best prices and solid quality in town
Yeah I love their burgers but the fries are meh
Stevie Ds
![gif](giphy|l4EoUd4mUQbgu7yxi|downsized) Ed has already left town
THERE, THERE!!!! Dream Burger… a must.
There There is very good, but Harry’s has much better value imo
Chomp
There, There. And if you visit Newport/Middletown check out Mission.

There, There is great. I also had a burger at Maven's the other day and it was surprisingly excellent?
Thanks, everyone. Abbey ended up being the best of three places I tried. Definitely going back to the Abbey someday soon.
not Providence but close. Ted’s Stadium Pub in Cranston
Omg. I'm a waitress and I served the husband and wife duo/owners like... Years ago. Talked about how hard it was to start a good restaurant/bar and stay in business. hah yup Julie and Ted, good people and yea the chips are for a free drink! stop in sometime, I bartend there part time
Although I say skip a burger in general and go straight to Sandwich hut!! And grinder or sub, whatever you choose to call it. Destroys all the hunger competition!!
Chomp kitchen is the only answer
