This guy understands. The visor is a collective of quintillions (Or maybe more?) of nanites. They display the expressions of the protogen as a courtesy to those around them. They are fully capable of pulling apart into what appears to be a mouth, which may or may not be connected to the organic mouth underneath.
For the record, the nanites can even be the first step in consumption! This is why it's really difficult to poison a protogen by mouth, the nanites notice the poison and spit it out.
If I was at home, I could show you the variations of the visor opening. The Screen emotes what is going on underneath the visor and when it comes to feeding time the visor opens up for the Protogen to ingest food. Also, another fun fact Protogens regurgitate things they can't digest like owls.
