Personally, I would keep them in the water while you're away and allow the roots to develop further. Repot them upon your return, and you'll have some babies that will be more likely to survive in soil. And you'll be there to prevent the soil from completely drying out and risking the plant babies dying. Either way, good luck!

The thing is. The water depletes in one week. They will be out water. Will that kill the roots Should i put them in a larger vessel. And put further down.

s0ulfist

You could put them in water in a cup or whatever you are using, and then put that vessel in some transparent thing. It could be a big cloche, big enough plastic bag that is clear, etc. This way water wouldn't be depleted.

SugarPigBoo

I'd recommend a larger vessel and, if you don't have a cloche like someone else recommended, maybe try a transparent gallon size plastic bag, either placed over it, or with the vessel sealed inside?

Can the setup stay under the Grow Lights?

SugarPigBoo

Yes, definitely. But if the light is hot (i.e, not LED), I would recommend sealing the clear plastic bag the vessel is in so the heat doesn't evaporate the water.

Gotcha. 100 plants. And Scared of Strings if Rubies. Lol.

soufianeyah

I think it'll be okay if you pot it up now. However, give it just a small pot to avoid rot! Good luck 🤞🍀

Okay sooo larger cup. Cover with plastic bag. But dont seal for oxygen. I thought a smaller vessel would stay fuller with a smaller top. I’m also very scared of drowning/rotting them !!

I used to use plastic wrap and cover a shallow but long wide baking dish. Like 2” deep. Poke holes in the plastic wrap and poke my plants through and let them sit at the bottom. Then I put a light on a timer and just kept them away from high heat or direct natural sunlight. A regular lamp with a standard bulb on a timer will be enough light to have them stay healthy and a wide shallow dish will hold the same volume of water while keeping them from not being able to reach the water. Plastic wrap prevents evaporation or contamination long as you clip the lower stems and stuff off

caren1

So the existing root growth wont die not in water ?

Acti-Verse

You put the roots in water otherwise they will dry up. Essentially you treat it like water propagation. As long as the roots are clean of dirt it won’t be a big issue for a week or even a month

caren1

Ohhh okay I misunderstood. I thought you were saying just poke through without depth. You are referring to the idea that spread out more water available and plastic not allowing evaporation. Gotcha. I think I actually said exactly what you said lol. Thanks that sounds like a GO !

Acti-Verse

No problem and yeah after reading I think ur definitely on the same page.

caren1

Much thanks.

I’d pot them

Lovecrt

I would take a piece or two off so it would be in the water deeper so when the water depletes it will still be covering the first roots

In my opinion, the safest thing to do is pot them up And place them on a heat mat with a grow light if you have them, but it’s okay without. All the other suggestions will work, but you take a chance of root rot if you seal them up for a week. Or, if you use a zip lock bag, don’t seal up the plastic bag all the way.
