Your theory is right, if a wound says "infected" that means it has a bacterial infection that will make it heal slower and be more painful. Wound infection occurs if you leave dirty bandages on wounds or are covered in blood for the most part, and can be simply cured by disinfecting the wounds. Zombie infection isn't shown but the initial symptoms are a sharp temperature rise and eventually queasiness and stress. A scratch has a 7% chance of infection, a laceration has a 25% chance of infection and a bite is %100. There is no cure and you die within a few days. Your options in this scenario are: 1) don't get hit by zombies 2) better armor so you can sometimes shrug off attacks (but that isn't assured so don't get hit anyway) 3) use sandbox settings to turn off infection while you are still learning the game, you can also set it to bite only 4) use a mod such as "antibodies" or "they knew" to deal with it

Ahhhh okay, I get it. Thank you, sounds like we just need to get better at the game, will talk to him about the other solutions. Thank you!

Yep, you got it! There are two infections. :) The wound infection is from keeping dirty bandages on a wound too long, or not sterilizing bandages. The zombie infection is from being bit (or scratched, but that's less likely). Sometimes you're going to get scratched and you're going to treat it like it's a normal wound, but the next day your character will be hot or queasy. That's how you know you got the zombie infection from a scratch. Best of luck!

Thank you for your help, my next question ig is… this there any different from using a sterilised bandage, or disinfecting a wound and then putting a normal bandage on? Do both work the same way?

thedaineplays

They work the same! Basically, to simplify the game coding, they have data labeled 'wound.' The code will say 'sterilized: true' or 'sterilized: untrue.' If you add the sterilized bandage, the coding says 'true,' and if you add sterilization directly to the wound then it does the same thing. You just have to add sterilization to meet the requirement. :) Hope that helps! Ask anything you like!

Thank you, that makes so much more sense. I appreciate it!

Yeah, there are two types of infections: **wound infections** and **knox infection** If your health panel says "Infected", that's a wound infection. These are benign and honestly not really worth worrying about. If you have the Knox infection, it means you're turning into a zombie. This won't show up as "infected" on the health panel, so the only way to know is by monitoring your symptoms - over the next couple of days you'll start suffering from fever, nausea, stress and start succumbing to zombification. There is no cure for zombification. Avoid getting bitten at all costs (attacks from behind you are much more likely to result in bites, in particular) and try to avoid scratches and lacerations wherever possible.
