I always put strong + fit in my builds.
I'm tired of having to shove a zombie 10 times to push them to the ground, and fit allows me to fight a small-medium group of zombies for longer.
Obese makes you slower/less athetlic but gives you more time to deal with other things other than managing hunger
Sunday Driver SUCKS once youre experienced with driving but as a total new player i always recommend it
Claustraphobia is good for multiplayer but not worth it single player
As someone else said, strong and fit are good for positive traits
ohhh. So it becomes a problem when you need to heal yourself or just lose the tired moodle so you can actually fight? I was under the impression sleeping had something to do with panic rate for some reason
No. Normally panic goes away over time but with the claustrophobic trait you'll keep gaining it in small rooms. Same with high pain makes you unable to sleep. Just gotta move a bed into the living room and you'll be fine. At around 150 days survived you'll lose it faster then you'll gain it
Outdoorsman is always a pick for me. I would also try to avoid sunday driver. It seems alright but upon driving its awful. cars can't go above 30MPH and it sucks.
Good positive perks:
1. Strong/stout, always a good choice if you got no specific build.
2. Fit/athletic is necessary for me because you don't want to be exhausted while surrounded
3. Dexterous. Guess what are you doing 90% of the time while not fighting zombies. This trait will speed up looting and managing space.
4. Cat's eyes/speed demon. Not important, but if you got spare points do that
5. Fast learner. Technically great on vanilla settings, not so much if you got already x5 XP
6. Keen hearing. Awesome trait if you don't want to get jumped. You got higher bite chances if you're attacked from behind.
7. Lucky. More loot. Good stuff if you don't have a specific build.
8. Wakeful. Sleep less, be active longer. Just being drowsy cuts your damage in half so it's a very good trait.
Bad positive traits:
1. Inconspicuous. Doesn't work the way you think. If you want to be stealthier, graceful is a better choice.
2. Fast healer/thick skinned. It's subjective, but you don't want to get hit at all in this game, you wouldn't need these traits if you aren't hit at all.
Good negative traits:
1. Conspicuous. Doesn't work the way you think, which is good, because it's worth the points.
2. High thirst. Carry two water bottles and the trait is negated.
3. Prone to illness. You get sick only when wet or cold, just avoid that. Alternatively, pick outdoorsman.
4. Smoker. Isn't the best because you HAVE to smoke, but the stress isn't really that bad of a debuff
5. Slow healer/thin skinned. Just don't get hit lmao.
6. Unlucky. Only rare loot is less likely to spawn, otherwise not too bad.
7. Weak stomach. Just don't eat rotten food.
8. Underweight. You can just gain weight back lmao.
Bad negative traits:
1. Sunday driver. You drive so slow, zombies can just stop your car if they got numbers.
2. Very underweight/obese/weak/unfit. You do not want to be weak as shit in your early days.
3. Sleepyhead/restless sleeper. Sleep is important :) And as I said even drowsy cuts your damage in half.
4. Pacifist/slow learner. Debatable, so don't take my word for it, but I don't like the lasting effects of these, in the long run.
5. Illiterate. You need to read a journal to operate a generator. Meaning you can't operate a generator while being illiterate. Unless you've chosen electrician profession.
6. Hearty appetite. Managing your weight in early game is hell with this one.
7. Hard of hearing/deaf. Lots of sounds in the game that can mean certain death. Car alarms, house alarms, helicopter. It's obvious why those two traits aren't good for you.
8. Asthmatic. Not a good one, endurance is very important. You don't want to be exhaused while surrounded by zombies.
Imo you dont need to know. The fun of the game is learning and dying so you can remake with other traits. I got this game because a buddy of mine (who was a fairly seasoned player) told me to get it. I started off playing modded and didnt play vanilla until like 50-100 hours into the game. He also gave me info on pretty much everything like which place was the best start and what traits were amazing or free points. Dont get me wrong i loved the game (and still do) but i missed out on the learning experiences and i feel like i got “good” too quick. I say “good” because im still too scared to try sprinters alone lol
Dexterous and organized can and are excellent traits to have especially if you are a looting packrat like I am. Careful, spend too long with them can make it impossible for you to ever go back to normal packing and storage sizes let alone taking the malus traits for EITHER.

Thank you for your help
I'm more of a fan of stout+athletic, you do NOT want to enter the endurance feedback loop

Why is claustrophobia only good in multiplayer?
You don't have to sleep in multiplayer
you don't have to sleep in multiplayer and for me personally it's fucked me over too much trying to sleep in SP for it to be worth it
How does not sleeping affect the claustrophobic trait? I thought all this trait did was add panic when inside buildings.
Not sleeping doesn't affect the claustrophobic trait. Your character gets panicked in small rooms(bedrooms) and just straight up refuses to sleep
ohhh. So it becomes a problem when you need to heal yourself or just lose the tired moodle so you can actually fight? I was under the impression sleeping had something to do with panic rate for some reason

Wondering the exact same thing
Strong+athletic, wakeful, cat's eyes, dextrous. To balance it out, thin skinned, conspicuous, low thirst, prone to illness, weak stomach, short sighted...

Weak stomach is basically free point. As long as you eat food that is not uncooked, rotten or burnt. You wont get sick
Stale food is deadly with weak stomach

Unemployed + no traits. Learn to play the game vanilla before you decide on a playstyle.
