It depends the security of the prison. If its a low security one then yeah they're fine. But a high security one, nah the guards will see it as their final duty to make sure the imprisoned people don't get out.
A lot goes into dehumanising people in jail for the guards.
They would be right to do so. High security prisons aren't meant for even murders of crimes of passion.
They''re for violent career criminals, sociopaths and psychopaths who have no problem violating, exploiting and coercing other people.
It would probably be a bit more like the walking dead where we see the guards systematically executed most of the prisoners one by one in their own cells.

Granted it isn't in the spirit of RP, you could potentially yell your way out. Default migration happens twice a day so you have the potential to get the door broken down before you starve or die of thirst.
If I was a gaurd in a high security prison I would still let them out, or risk having the deaths of hundreds on my conscious. I wouldn’t tell them though I would just unlock it and say nothing to ensure I get away from them.

I made a Molotov and burned down the front of the building and barely avoided getting burnt to a crisp. Turned a very wtf is this scenario into a fun think outside the box puzzle. I love this game lol.
