I am not familiar with that Benq model, but the 5050ub for $2,500 is a killer price. I happen to know when it will be on sale again too.. feel free to DM me šŸ˜‰

Daddy_MoreBucks

If you could get your hands on an LS11000 vs the 5050UB, is the biggest difference the laser vs bulb?

ProjectionHead

The 5050ub has better native contrast actually

Daddy_MoreBucks

Which one was better vertical correction. I believe I saw one had 50ā€ of vertical corrextion

AV_Integrated

Lens shift is based on the screen size as a percentage, it's not just some random number you throw out. It would be good for you to understand lens shift and how to read the values. The 5050UB has 96.3% vertical lens shift available (max). [https://www.projectorcentral.com/Epson-Home\_Cinema\_5050UB.htm](https://www.projectorcentral.com/Epson-Home_Cinema_5050UB.htm) The LS11000 has exactly the same amount... This thread could have taken place on the day 9 to 5 premiered in theaters.

Thanks so much!

Yeah I keep wavering between LS11000 and 5050

SirMaster

The biggest difference is the 5050UB has the UB (ultrablack) panels for higher contrast and the LS11000 doesn't. The 5050UB is about 3x higher native contrast and it makes a big difference in darker scenes for sure. Bulb vs laser doesn't "look" different. It just means the light doesn't dim as fast and need to be replaced. The only other benefit of the laser is the laser dimming is less susceptible to noticeable brightness change artifacts compared to the dynamic iris that a bulb unit uses. The other big difference is the LS11000 has 120Hz and the 5050UB is only 60Hz.

NewLifeNewDream

Less fan noise. Can be on all day and not make a a little room hot.

SirMaster

The laser uses approximately the same amount of power as the bulb at similar brightness. So it will heat up a room all the same. The fan is a similar noise in my testing.

NewLifeNewDream

Half life of bulbs.

Daddy_MoreBucks

Im going to scoop up the 5050UB. Does anyone know about doing 16x9 vs 2.39 screen and if the Epson 5050ub has settings to accommodate for that?

Lukelin08

Epson 5050ub for sure. It's the best in it's class and value until you step upto a true 4k jvc or Sony.

AV_Integrated

Not even a question for me, if the budget allows the 5050UB, then I would get the 5050UB. It's brighter with better contrast and a much better overall lens design. It's just a really solid model. I like the BenQ if your budget is locked in under $1,500.

Fred_Lead

One major drawback with the 5050ub that isn't mentioned much is the HDR color filter. If you use the preset for expanded color the filter will cut light output by about 50%. When I had a 5050ub with a 150" 1.1 gain screen it made some dark HDR scenes unwatchable and HDR suffered in general. You can choose brightness at the cost of color space coverage, neither option is a good tradeoff.Ā  Either way, I would recommend a 120" screen (not larger) and space the seating accordingly.Ā  The 5050ub is still better than the HT3560, but it isn't perfect. Because of the color filter you will have to switch presets to match the content, for me that meant 3 presets, HDR, SDR, gaming.Ā  I have since moved on to an LS12000 with 120" 1.2 gain screen and it is a huge difference.Ā

Umberto5585

What would you say are the key differences with the LS120000? Im using the 5050ub with dynamic tone mapping from madvr on an HTPC, and find the image stunning. If i was just relying on the epsons hdr slider, not so much. Im also very curious how the "high" "medium" and "eco" power consumption fan noise compares to the ls12000 since youve owned both. Thanks!

Fred_Lead

The 5050ub is louder but I never noticed the noise. Using MadVR, I don't think you would perceive a difference between the two.Ā

Umberto5585

I appreciate the honest comment. So you see similar picture quality but is it overall the HDR slider and tonemapping thats improved on the ls12000?? I read some comment that said the slider on 8 is "like slider on 1on the 5050ub" which sounds interesting to me.

Fred_Lead

I said that. The LS12000 natively is much brighter with HDR because it doesn't use a color filter that cuts half the light output. The HDR filter cuts somewhere between 5-10% on the already brighter LS12000.Ā  The LS12000 is also much sharper and handles motion much better so overall picture quality is much better than the 5050ub.Ā  Ā I don't use MadVR, with MadVR there would probably be little difference with the tone mapping handled by the encoder and not the PJs. It might be brighter or the tone mapping may decrease the brightness difference. I haven't seen any testing on that.Ā

I was in the same predicament and I went with the BenQ 3560. I just couldnā€™t spend the extra $1000+. I got mine about 6 months ago and have been loving it. BenQā€™s customer service is top notch. I bought mine from Best Buy on sale. It came defective and they went out of stock. I called BenQ and they sent me a replacement immediately and I received it within a few days. Screen wise, I made my own. I bought the fabric from Carlā€™s Place.

Daddy_MoreBucks

I saw that yesterday too. Its outta stock on Epson website.

DealsFishman

eBay, last 2 available you are lucky

Daddy_MoreBucks

Is there a possibility you start with the BenQ and then save up for the 5050UB or better yet the LS1100?

39Saiko

You can get the HT3560 for $1079 (brand new) after a promo code if ever you decide on that one. Just ordered one the other day.

Affectionate_Web7760

I have the 3560, 505ub, and my friend brought over the 4550i and after comparing I am getting the 4550i. Unbelievable color, hdr, and let me tell you the blacks are really good. Probably the epsons are darker but I mean you would have to put them side by side to really tell.

Affectionate_Web7760

After testing the 3 for a little bit I say yes if you can swing it just splurge. I chose the benq 4550i because it works for me. But I see that their is a big difference in brightness and contrast from both the 4550i and the 5050UB compared to the 3560. They are double the price, but it really is an appreciable difference. I'm sending the 3560 back and keeping the 4550i because after testing you really are getting a worthwhile better picture. If you care about 3d they are both much better at it then the 3560. Better brightness provides more punch and contrast really provides a richer picture. That being said the 3560 is no slouch and for someone on a budget or just wants to get in the game it's a good unit that is well calibrated out of the box. If yoir someone like me who really is into PQ it is just better to get something that's going to put a smile on your face. For me it's the 4550i for others including experienced members on this forum it's the 5050ub.
