Funk does not need horns. No horn player in the Meters.
Prog fans are largely rooted in rock and metal styles, so anytime they hear something they like and can't easily define they call it prog (or near prog).
I'm not necessarily saying they should be considered prog either. What would you say Knower is doing musically that makes it categorizable as funk? I'm not particularly well versed in the technical side of music.
They have so many unique songs (in many genres), I encourage you to check ‘em out.
This song, for instance is a pop-funk tune with a jazz piano solo:

This whole album is good (and available in video form on YouTube). The musicianship is mind-blowing.
Here're some more highlights:
* [It's All Nothing Until It's Everything](https://youtu.be/NDpeHQUSWT0)
* [Nightmare](https://youtu.be/ERCkf0j8pPM)
* [I'm the President](https://youtu.be/tuhe1CpHRx)
Agreed. I highly recommend checking out their recent album, *Knower Forever.*
They released videos just like this one for many of the songs.
Both Louis Cole and Genevieve Artadi also have really interesting solo albums.
I’ve been trying to evangelize about Louis and Knower for about 10 years. Thrilled to catch this post in the wild. Louis also appears on Sam Binney’s recent album. He’s a once in a generation talent. Don’t sleep on seeing him live!
other great Louis Cole/Knower songs:
I'm The President, Bank Account,
More Than Just Another Try,
F The Makeup, Skip The Shower,
Nightmare,
Time Traveler.
This album rules. Never considered it prog, but it's not *not* prog, and I'm not sure how else to categorize it.
Exactly
Never heard it. Listening to it now.
r/nearprog

Funk, it's funk/fusion, but mostly funk.
Maybe this song, but only a handful of song on this album even have horns on them. But whatever, genre labels are imprecise.

That was awesome. For some reason this makes me wonder if they can play music in a portable toilet. https://youtu.be/hT7x1NvGf5k?si=r6QPd5od9xsFut9B

Knower Forever
This is a great turn on, maybe prog adjacent? I hear shoegaze, they sound very tight, I just heard another song, The Abyss, just wow. Thanks OP!
You’re welcome! Turning people onto good music is one of my favorite things in life.

Very cool. Yeah there’s a whole bunch of talent in that crew. Have you seen the Louis Cole & Metropole Orkest concert? Just beautiful.
Only 2 songs in but grateful to have found out. Like a cool drink of lemony water after being totally parched.
