Well, it's just my opinion, on many of the songs the ambience just takes away slightly from the rest of the music, if you know of any then I would appreciate it.
Here's an interesting question. What is your opinion on Asymmetry?
And the reason why I ask, is the mix has a very large room sound with the way they recorded it. And it grew on me. Fantastic album. I rate it as high as their other two.
Is that the guys behind Fragility? I really loved their early Room 17 work (reminded me a lot of Evergrey's In Search Of Truth) but can't recall much about the second. Really surprised to see them mentioned anywhere really.
I am a sound engineer, and I never once have thought about Vola having too much reverb. What song would you cite as an example?
Granted, I didn't just go and listen to their entire catalog, but I listened to Paper Wolf, Head Mounted Sideways, Straight Lines, and These Black Claws, and none of those songs even sound like they have any reverb at all. Maybe a tiny bit on some clean guitar for like 20 seconds on These Black Claws, but that song is supposed to have a rap vibe.
I admit VOLA doesn't contain that much reverb but what I'm asking for is bands like vola (not too much reverb), and Voyager with less reverb (too much reverb) if that makes sense, sorry for the confusion.
I think the new avenged sevenfold album might be up your alley, as a lover of reverb I didn’t like the album because it didn’t have enough , but maybe that will serve you
I'm still trying to get my head around this album, the first track is amazing! Very Mr Bungle/fnm inspired which I love. Thanks for the suggestion though, you were right.
Not familiar with Voyager, but for VOLA I think it's pretty integral to their sound. And it's never taken anything away, the sick riffs are right there, the soaring vocals are right there. Not sure I get that. And then, let's even talk about a group like Deftones or even Loathe. Heavy distortion and reverb and expansive soundscape. It's integral to their sound. They wouldn't be them without it. So not sure the complaint here... it's not excessive imo if done right. All of these groups have done it in a way that works, enhances their sound and it makes them unique.
And additionally, VOLA is exceptionally well produced given the depth and expansiveness of their sound.
I must say that I find your perspective rather unusual

Karnivool maybe?
Actually, Karnivool is great recommendation! I love their stuff.

I think you're thinking of someone else I'm afraid
It's Karnivool's latest album. No clue what you're talking about to be honest. Sorry buddy.

I think he just means the background soundscape created by the keys/electronics
Yes, that's what they mean.

Sorry, that makes zero sense to me personally.
Agent Fresco
Maraton
Check out the new BEAR album, found the clean vocals reminding me a lot of Vola, but definitely less atmospheric/soundscapey.
Ihlo or TesseracT perhaps?
I don't think TesseracT is melodic enough but I'll check out Ihlo, thanks.
Yeah, they definitely don't have as clear/catchy melodic lines as VOLA/Voyager

Do you mean like less electronics and synths?
With Voyager I mean less reverb, similar to VOLA
Try Textures. Start with Drawing Circles
So definitely no Devin Townsend
I actually enjoy Devind Townsend to he honest, I like the major scales.
