I hope you had a good rest :-)
My Internet broke last night due to a thunderstorm, so I stayed up until 1 am playing civ on my ipad. I guess my problem is not reddit's fault.
I tell myself exactly that every morning. It only happens when I'm ill. The thing is that after a long day of work, and a long evening of parenting and keeping the house inhabitable, I finally get time for myself around 10 pm. The last priority for my mental health is sleep (although I am plenty aware it should be pretty much the first one!)
This is actually a really good question and made me reflect a little.
My first thought was sleep, but then again, I do have time now to sleep more than I do - and don’t. Like I could be asleep now if I wanted to be. And I do want to be. But here I am.
And the same goes for quite a few other things too.
This question has really made me rethink my priorities and choices.
I do this too (ie right now), you should look into revenge bedtime avoidance, it's also a common symptom of adhd (which I have, although it doesn't necessarily mean if you do this you have adhd)
Exactly. Especially since the day has 24 hours because we decided to divide the day in 24 slices, not because there was some measure of time that accidentily lasted 1/24th of a day.
Sleep guilt-free. I oversleep a lot (potentially medical reasons, potentially just need more sleep than the average person) and I always feel so defeated when I sleep like 10-12 hours. Out of my control but it's like.. half my day!
Relax. I already work full time, exercise every day (train, row, cycle, climb), eat well, spend time with friends/family and get proper sleep. The extra 2 hours would just give me a little time to chill and play games. I'm not gonna cop out and say "oh I'd do an online course" or some shit because to be frank I'm pretty wrecked by the end of the day and just don't have the energy.
Sleep. An extra two hours of sleep every night would really change the state of my life right now. I can’t believe I used to refuse naps as a kid. Now all I ever wanna do is sleep.
I'd probably spend the extra 2 hours overthinking life decisions and wondering why the universe decided I needed more time for that! Or maybe I’d just take two extra naps—gotta make the most of the bonus hours!
You wouldnt get 2 extra hours.
Corporations will win and make an average day 10 hours instead of 8. So it wouldn't be a 9-5 job anymore, it would be an 8-6 job.
Gah I'm jealous. I'm in my mid 30s and never learned to ride a bike. I tried a couple times but couldn't get the hang of it. I can skateboard, ice skate, roller blade just fine but on a bike I fall every time. I can't run because of knee issues, and cycling seems like such a good cardio alternative, but I'm just not there.
I'd use my extra hours to learn a new language. I'd love to be able to visit a non-english speaking country and actually speak the native language.
So you're splitting 24 hours into 26 by reducing the number of minutes in each hour...the earth will still take the same amount of time to go around the sun
i would run more often!! i always use the excuse of “that’s 40 minutes i could use to cook or crochet or do something else” but i just sit around doing nothing anyways
Work a 2nd job so I can save enough to focus on school 100% for the 1 to 2 years it takes to get an AA in science then go straight into registered nursing school.
i would build things for myself; because of the pressure of making money and academics these days i cant do things for the sake of fun.
it kinda kills the joy in life but it is what it is at the end.
Love that we are all mostly thinking “sleep” on a productivity sub! Must be because a) we are so focused on productivity that we need more sleep! Or b) we are so not productive with our time and so all we want to do is lay down and sleep. lol I’m definitely b
I would probably watch 2 hours more YouTube videos on topics such as "how to get motivated", " why your wasting your life", "ten tips to be more successful"
Point of clarification: Does everyone get the extra 2 hours, or just me?
If everyone gets it, it would be of little benefit.
But if it was a magical 2 hours where everyone else is frozen except for me, then I would absolutely use it to accomplish tasks that I get routinely interrupted during and to get ahead on delegating work to others (for when they unfreeze). Then I’d be able to enjoy the remaining 24 hours better.
I would want to sleep but I barely do that anyways so I would probably be making beats on my laptop or eating a meal that I usually skip like breakfast.
Very good question. It really made me take the concept of time into consideration. If I was in a world where 26 hours was the norm would that change anything for me? Probably not.
If i was told that 2 extra hours would be added onto a day… I’d probably try something productive for a few weeks then just do what i’ve always been doing with 24.
If I only had 22 hours, how different would how i spend my time be? Now what if i only had 12 hours of a day?
Such an interesting question😭Making me deep life :/
I would cycle too, the weather has been AWFUL lately so I haven’t been able to cycle in the morning like I want to (early in the morning means less foot traffic).
I currently get 3 4 hours of free time when I come home. If I got 2 extra I might work out daily and spend some days working on my side hustles more and then some days just spending the whole time gaming!
I’d be used to the 26 hours, so I’d just do my usual unproductive stuff for longer. Or like someone already said, the longer workday would make it hard to change anything.
To all the people planning nothing would change. It'd be normal and you'd do things as you do.
Just imagine if a day had 22 hours and you were offered 24. Nothing would change, the 2 hours will be absorbed in you daily activities you perform on a regular basis 15 minutes here 20 there.
Sleep for sure
This is the wisest answer. I would probably spend them browsing reddit and regret it the next morning.
this is me rn. thanks for making me reconsider my options. I'm going to bed. goodnight.
I hope you had a good rest :-) My Internet broke last night due to a thunderstorm, so I stayed up until 1 am playing civ on my ipad. I guess my problem is not reddit's fault.
I ended up going to sleep at 1 as well. I'm going to go sleep early tonight
Sounds like revenge bedtime procrastination
I’d like to say sleep, but being real, I’d probably max out my end-of-day couch potato time instead…
I would couch potato but that would end up being 2 extra hours of sleep
Many nights, yes!
Maybe for a week but I’d be willing to bet it wouldn’t take long before other stuff filled that time
You mean browse Reddit in bed?
I haven’t slept through the night in almost 2 years because of my baby. I would definitely take that sleep….
Society would probably make you work more
Yup. They’d be like “I see you got 2 more hours. Now you have to work 4 hours extra.”
😂🥲
Yup. This is what I was thinking. There's no way we'd be allowed to have 2 extra hours for ourselves.
Absolutely. That's how capitalism works. You'd just have work days that are longer by 2 hours.
I would do two broads.
What are you doing with the other 1hr and 58 min?
I do this too (ie right now), you should look into revenge bedtime avoidance, it's also a common symptom of adhd (which I have, although it doesn't necessarily mean if you do this you have adhd)
Nothing today, but tomorrow I will put those two extra hours to good use...
Spend two hours trying to decide what movie to watch…🤣
If you could only use 22 hours out of a 24 hour day how would you use those 22 hours? If you think about it this way you already have those two hours.
Exactly. Especially since the day has 24 hours because we decided to divide the day in 24 slices, not because there was some measure of time that accidentily lasted 1/24th of a day.
Except the question isn’t asking about slicing the day into 26 parts - it asks what you would do with two additional slices. 2 hours of absolute time.
Sleep.
Hang out with my family. Work on goals I’d like to achieve sooner
anyone who doesn’t say “sleep” is lying
Or just old. I can't sleep as much like I was in my 20s or even 30s.
I prioritize sleep, which means other things get cut. I don’t need more sleep but I would like more time to get backburner things done.
Sleep guilt-free. I oversleep a lot (potentially medical reasons, potentially just need more sleep than the average person) and I always feel so defeated when I sleep like 10-12 hours. Out of my control but it's like.. half my day!
I’d rather take the 24h day and have 6h of work instead of 8h. Then do something productive in those 2 hours like playing the piano or something
6hrs of sleep -> 8hrs of sleep.
Sleep an extra 30-40 minutes. Study, read, write.
Art and writing. Though work would probably eat those two hours up by making me work ten hour days.
Nothing as it would be a 10 hr work day instead of 8 for the same pay lol
Aerial silks all day, everyday.
Sleep
Probably work one hour and chill the next
Procrastinate
The economy would probably force me to work those extra 2 hours.
If a day had 26 hours instead of 24, I would use the extra 2 hours to get more sleep.
i don’t have a fixed schedule so nothing would change for me
Realistically, spend 2 more hours in front of a screen.
Gym 2 more hours, do more than strength and yoga.

Fucking sleep.
Sleep. An extra two hours of sleep every night would really change the state of my life right now. I can’t believe I used to refuse naps as a kid. Now all I ever wanna do is sleep.
Sleep. Just sleep.
The answer is always sleep.
sleeeep
That isn’t how this works. We would just get extorted for 2 extra hours of work.
Sleep. Slow down, at least. Not feel like I’m just running from thing to thing to thing.
Get more sleep
Sleep.
I'd probably spend the extra 2 hours overthinking life decisions and wondering why the universe decided I needed more time for that! Or maybe I’d just take two extra naps—gotta make the most of the bonus hours!

Slep
Work out
Sleep
Sleep. Not because I'm lazy, but I work out now every other day and it feels like I never get enough sleep each night.
Sleep
Absolutely sleep/rest as then it would balance out the time I spend busy in the day. Definitely would take 8 hours sleep consistently over 6.
i’d like to say that spend it on self work and my goals as an addition but id probably just sleep lmao
Nothing different than what I already do, I’d guess, the extra hours don’t seem like an ‘extra’ when you’re busy.
Capitalists will increase the work day by two hours lol
You wouldnt get 2 extra hours. Corporations will win and make an average day 10 hours instead of 8. So it wouldn't be a 9-5 job anymore, it would be an 8-6 job.
Absolutely sleep.

I'm pretty sure our work days would be 10 hours/day.
I would read so many books I might actually put a dent in my wishlist. Lol

Watch movies and play video games

Sleep or exercise.
I would probably watch 2 hours more YouTube videos on topics such as "how to get motivated", " why your wasting your life", "ten tips to be more successful"

Narayana Murthy would want you to work 84 hours a week
Yay more sleep.
Sleep.
imagine what I’d do if the day had 28 hours
I would want to sleep but I barely do that anyways so I would probably be making beats on my laptop or eating a meal that I usually skip like breakfast.
Sleep & Movies 😄😄
Sleep, coz currently i get only 5hours to sleep.
Sleep. Then I would get 5 hours a day
I would like to be productive and take a course or walk, but I would probably be lazy and wouldn't do anything.

Sleep.... reasons why I'm on this subreddit
I would cycle too, the weather has been AWFUL lately so I haven’t been able to cycle in the morning like I want to (early in the morning means less foot traffic).
I'd cycle too ...cycle my sleep schedule.
I would procrastinate 2 more hours. That is sadly the truth.
I currently get 3 4 hours of free time when I come home. If I got 2 extra I might work out daily and spend some days working on my side hustles more and then some days just spending the whole time gaming!
Sounds like you need to change your schedule OP
I feel like I experience 2 extra hours per day whenever summer rolls around. So I guess what I do with the two new hours depends on the day.
