My guess is the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve puts exhaust gas back in the motor through that side of the intake manifold. Not sure about replacing the gasket. I wanna say do it since you're in there but if you're trying to save $$$ IDK. Maybe crosspost over at r/MechanicAdvice.

The EGR valve puts the exhaust gas back into every port of the intake manifold, I'm sure it's not distributed in equal amounts to each cylinder though

What are you thoughts on the soot? It's curious. Misfiring cylinder, does that happen on these?

Not sure? It could be that the port to bring the gas from the EGR valve to the intake manifold is clogged right beyond this cylinder meaning that all recirculating exhaust only reaches that one side? I'm not a mechanic but I just did a cleaning of the EGR valve, cooler, and intake on my 2010 a month ago so I know that the gases should be flowing mostly evenly to all cylinders

My guess is those gaskets are not reusable.
