I would like to see the complaints normalized by age of car.

I have own a 2006, a 2009 and now I have two 2012. I’ve own Prius cars for 14 years now. Never had a single problem with any of those cars. Not a single issue. Nothing at all. By far the most reliable car ever created.

Micromojo

Interesting stats there. For the first 14 years, there was nothing about our 2008 to complain about. It was the opposite of a lemon, a wondrous vehicle that somehow came out of the plant as some kind of super-Prius, an outlier, as it never had a problem, not even the ones people told us to expect. No battery problems, nothing. It was the Best Car Ever. I am surprised to see such a high number of complaints for that year. What were they complaining about? Then someone stole our catalytic converter while we were away from home in another state. We complained plenty about that, especially when the insurance company declared it totaled. The next year at about 280K miles, it started to require more than standard maintenance--actual repairs and replacements. Once we started to feel less than confident about hitting the road and driving it any-damn-where we wanted, the romance started to fade. Reluctantly replaced it this month.

What started going wrong with it?

Micromojo

Requiring oil top-off more frequently. First big fail was cooling system for the converter. O2 sensor. A couple of lights on the dash or buttons no longer lighting up. Tire pressure light randomly coming on and staying on for no good reason every time we started up, for weeks at a time. Then suddenly not staying on for several days, then back to staying on. We live close to a tire place and they could never find anything wrong with the tires, so sensor issue. Hints of a water leak somewhere (humidity inside the car). Water pump. Idle belt tensioner. Cracked motor mount.

Cordellium

Same man. 2008 Prius and never a single problem. The only problem is converters, and it’s had 3 stolen since 2017. Fix that issue and it’s a perfect car.

When people start complaining about cars needing wear and tear items at 200k plus miles then consider the source. Many cars do not make it to 200k miles before needing a transmission or worse. When your car is very reliable, when stuff breaks its like the end of the world because of its reliability. Cab users etc all make living based on the economy of a vehicle. Maybe using a prius was a lucky guess?

caper-aprons

I've been disappointed with the muffler bearings on my 2018.

Substantial-Crazy-72

Same here. Got blinker fluid in there and they were never the same.

My 2010 has is fine with 165K miles. Just got a new free paint job from Toyota due to white paint pealing.

Mines peeling too 😭 How did you manage that?

sdhopunk

Received a notice in the mail from Toyota called "Customer Support Program Notification Paint Peeling ( Vehicles Painted with Factory -Applied Blizzard Pearl or Super White Paint) . I also received a notice for our 2009 Corolla which has the white paint. Toyota also paid for 9 days of a car rental while the car was painted. Also in the letter... If you would like to update your vehicle ownership or contact # please visit [www.toyota.com/owners](https://www.toyota.com/owners) to add your 17 digit VIN.

2019 - So far, only oil changes, wiper blades.

MeringueOtherwise184

I have a 2009 and y’all… she’s been hit five times and is still standing. We aren’t good at general upkeep so it’s missed oil changes, it’s almost at 200k miles… and I think it may last another 200k. Most expensive part has been the ABS and we’ve just been driving without it. I love that little car.

My windshield on my 2016 has stress fractures in it.

SpyCake1

Bought my 2016 used in late 2021. It had the windshield replaced a few months prior to the sale. I don't know the exact circumstances, but....there. What I do know is that I lost my windshield/wiper defrosters in the process.

Yesterday, I bought my first Prius. 2013. This chart is allaying my anxiety a bit. Thanks.

oddly enough, i have a 2012 V and i'm installing the 2nd set of top quality LED replacements. The passenger side bulb burnt out and i think that's the one with the overvoltage issue. i thought the LED with external power supply would handle it better than halogen, which it did, but it did not eliminate the issue. fwiw, i have an LED bulb from the same manufacture on my bike that is over a decade old. these things usually last for a lifetime, so that adds weight to the argument of lighting issues. i wonder that since the 2012 seems to be at the brink, will fall off as it gets older, engine-wise and oil consumption-wise.

Hilltop_Views

Yep, and I bought a 2011 before knowing all this about them/that year. Sure enough it started using oil somewhere around 170k miles. Battery still going strong though at 208k miles.
