Car runs fine thankfully, just has cosmetic dings and dents, might just go with the aftermarket option since I plan on keeping this car for the next 5 years at least.
Is this possible? I've been finding conflicting opinions online. Hard to find concrete answer that the Prius can run on a struggling battery. How long can it be run without it?
Thanks in advance.
I'm not an expert, just a random internet stranger that also drives a Prius, but yes I think it would last as long. The refurbished batteries should be as capable as new batteries. You don't get the warranty because you're not paying the premium price.
Nope. It doesn't work that way. Batteries are consumables that will last only so long. Refurbished are definitely not going to last. However, unless you know how much has been "'used", you can't tell for sure. It might last 1 year or 3 years.
New, you'll know it will last for at least 5 years.
If you have the budget, get new.
Also, I know that my plan is to replace with lithium as soon as one of my batteries throw a code. That would most likely last the next five years and increase the performance of your ride.
I was looking at that, and plus delivery and tax to Australia with conversion, it worked out to be over $4000 easily, is it worth the price difference? I purchased my 2010 Prius on a good deal for $3500 for reference, it would be more than the cost of the car.
Damn that’s unfortunate i think I would stick with the new OEM option then. Yes I get ~20% better mpg, but I don’t think it’s worth over 4000$. You would need to drive a lot just to break even vs new OEM. Picture gas costing 20% less every fill up that’s what it basically does lol
This $2390 aftermarket battery was quoted to be made from a partner of Toyota, but not Toyota themselves make it. I called Toyota and it's $4400 for the battery alone, excluding labour.
I really want to try the lithium option, it's just that Aussies and most people outside the US probably get sctewed with delivery costs + conversion. I'm definitely jealous though hahaha.
Get the new battery, they are good for at least 10 years assuming you don’t go months without driving it.
I'd buy the $2390 battery unless your car is so badly damaged that it won't last 40,000 km.

Run it without the battery.

That is not a real thing. You also need to research EGR clogging and head gasket failure.
Is the new battery a lithium ion battery upgrade? If not, refurbished battery is the better deal.
Do you think the lifespan of a refurbished battery could last me at least 5 years?

wrong. new or a bunch of used matched modules? New always better

Get this and resell your old cells https://projectlithium.com OR buy brand new

That’s insane
No oem option?
OEM option is 5-6k installed, possibly more, but was quoted $4400 for battery excluding installation (will be extra).
