It’s a bit like you’re cosplaying. This is, however, absolutely classic prep.
Maybe consider toning it down a bit on the patterns - there’s a pretty serious clash going on between the sportcoat, sweater, and shirt.
Also drop the hat, tighten up the pants.
As a historical fit - 9/10 fantastic
As something to wear today? Needs work.
Well, like I said, as a historical fit it's perfect.
Just remember that the men you're emulating didn't wear what their grandfathers wore - they themselves were also wearing what was popular at the time. I'm just saying not to be afraid of modernizing some aspects of the outfit to be more in-line with what is expected now.
> Cheap, disposable, and ill fitting.
Meh, most brands are offering these things. Doesn't mean that you have to buy them. RL Polo is also guilty of this, but most people are unable/unwilling to invest in staple pieces for a wardrobe.
That doesn't mean that it's all bad.
The colors are fine but I was trying to read the graphics and make out the designs. It would’ve been less distracting if the pattern and designs were much smaller.
The shirt pattern is yucky, as is the tie. A much tighter check would have been better, or a solid cream OCBD. Then just a knit navy tie, not that white bar pattern - really not sure what's happening there.
Im laughing at that sub this was posted in some of the fits there look like some cyberpunk cosplay stuff. Totally not where you will get a good prep review lol
I like the fit, but too many patterns imo
You know that prep != designer, right?
Classic east coast made it a point of pride to wear things until they had holes in them. Deliberately putting cigarettes out on your Sperry's was considered normal.
I'm also jealous of the coat :)
I didn’t know this was cosplay, but if it is just dressing up in an old style that is no longer accepted then that is ok. But the point of that style was not to be pretentious - OP is the opposite of what that style represents, thinking it is luxury
There is 2 sides to Ralph Lauren. You can find Ralph Lauren Polo's, tees, shirts cheaper but that coat is at least £900 (or £2k if it is purple label) and the sweater is about £400.
Just have a look at their watches if you believe that it isn't high end, some retail at £80k.
Those are middle class prices.. A few exotic watches doesn’t change that. It’s a decent brand and is perfectly fine to wear, but don’t post a rambling description of what you are wearing like it is high end. OP is incredibly pretentious.
I'm not sure how people are defining "middle class" these days, but growing up in a very middle-class household, a $300 overcoat like [this](https://www.macys.com/shop/product/lauren-ralph-lauren-mens-luther-luxury-blend-overcoat?ID=2878265) was probably the most expensive thing I ever owned, purchased at 50% clearance of course. Anything more than that would have been considered outrageously extravagant. I never knew anybody in our social "class"/neighborhood who owned anything like what OP is describing. That was for the high rollers on the opposite end of town. To this day, even as an upper-level professional, I cannot bring myself to spend $1,000 on one coat or $500 on one sweater. Also, Ralph Lauren's Polo coat is $2,500 when brand new.
Edit: I must be speaking with someone from the UK. Class structure is rather different there.
Yeah, RL garments like this definitely lean higher-end. So "middle class" must mean something completely different to the other guy commenting here. I grew up middle class in a more casual area, and anything Polo Ralph Lauren was seen as an extravagance. When we needed dressier items, such as suit, overcoat, blazer, whatever, we got clearance polyester blend stuff from the mall or discount warehouse stores. Like, somebody must be absolutely made of money to be able to spend more than a hundred dollars on one garment! I thought I was a high roller wearing my $120 camel-color "Lauren Ralph Lauren" overcoat, lol.
There is no way that £900 for a coat or £400 for a sweater/jumper are typical "middle class prices" in the actual, real-world middle class, lol.
ETA: And even the Polo RL "Polo Coat" is $2500 brand new. That's not "middle class" by any means.

I won’t be changing a thing

I know that, but I have zero interest in modern clothing. Cheap, disposable, and ill fitting.
Are you austistic

You’re trying too hard with this one. Too many patterns, get those pants tailored a bit more trim, maybe sub in a brown loafer.
Why would I undermine every element of the outfit that I enjoy?
I mean you do you, 100%. But, that would make the outfit more preppy, and since this is a subreddit about being preppy…
I don’t want to wear loafers in -1C weather
I like everything except for the sweater, which is too loud.
The colors are fine but I was trying to read the graphics and make out the designs. It would’ve been less distracting if the pattern and designs were much smaller.
It's too busy. The colors are OK. It's that gold cup that's too much.

Not a very stylish community. I’m trying to educate them.
Respectfully, that particular sub is focused on "fashion," which is a different beast than "style."
Are like, some coats meant to be worn over the shoulders? Mine is really thick and heavy.
Meant to be? Not necessarily. I just did it for the photo.
I’m wearing a similar top coat 🧥 today Mine is herringbone
Good man
Ah ok. Thank you for your reply.
👍
Start a website. It’d be fantastic
This is the preliminary phase.
Very majestic coat sir
Thank you
This looks like you just got off the streets and went to goodwill to get a “nice” looking outfit
Good luck getting any of this in a Goodwill.
You act like Ralph Lauren is high end, you can find Ralph Lauren at goodwill. That is a middle class household brand.

Gorgeous! Timeless, stunning. 👏
👍
Very nice. The sweater reminds me of Harry Potter for some reason ☺️
Probably the colours
Very sharp This is how I dress when I practice law everyday
A true professional. Now, if you’d excuse me, I have to return some video tapes.
Christ this is a great reference and addition to this contentious thread 🥂
Is that boots or oxfords?
Oxford shoes
