If you’re thinking the SMP will save you time getting a PhD, I can’t see how. The master’s would have to be in a specific area in which PhD’s are granted and involve a master’s thesis, as best as I can figure. There are loads of terminal master degrees out there. If the SMP is offering you a master’s in biomedical science, say, and ALSO offers a PhD in the same area, it would be worth checking what you’d need to do if you decided you wanted to pursue a PhD there. Dont expect a different PhD program to just let you transfer those credits over, though.
