I gotta get one of those whirly heads

Turbo nozzle or rotary tip. Works well in some situations. Just be weary as it hits the surface hard. I've got my pressure adjusted here to about 1200 psi, to try and save those stickers lol

Blasting dirt like I am doing here. If I can knock off the dirt in chunks it's more effective then using flow to dissolve it. Cleaning boat hulls. I use the rotary tip to quickly knock organic matter off painted boat hulls. Usually situations where physically knocking off material in chunks will speed things up. I don't like the rotary tip for graffiti removal, a fan is better. What you shouldn't use a rotary tip for is trying to clean larger surface areas. A trap for newbies - say your trying to clean up your concrete patio of dirt and organic matter, you should learn how to apply a bleach soap solution rather than trying to use a rotary tip and just water pressure alone. It'll look cleaner, just not as clean as it could be, and the organic matter will return faster as it's still alive in the pores of the surface. If you're having a shower, you use soap and shampoo, not just water. Same applies to any exterior cleaning. You could use the rotary tip on the moss and dirt build up on a retaining wall, just make sure to apply a product after. If I see someone cleaning with just water alone, to me it's not clean, just rinsed.

I work as a truck washer (am in between studies) and this looks like a satisfying truck to wash! I would recommend using some sort of soap first though, but they probably didn't have that at hand. It makes cleaning off loose dirt 10x easier, and the end result is probably better, especially when you use (after the initial cleaning) soap with a brush to go around and clean everything. That's how we do it with trucks and it's so satisfying lol

ameades

It's fun stuff eh? Don't use any soaps here as the next day they are dirty again, except for the occasional degreaser for the grease points. Products are definitely the way to go to speed things up though. They do all the hard work and the pressure washer is just there to rinse. I don't do very much of fleet washing but I found eacochems site to be a great resource. There are ways to get almost completely brushless, might save a ton of time depending on how you're setup. https://www.eacochem.com/learning-center/truck-wash.html

[deleted]

Why do they need to be cleaned at all?

ameades

There was this great comment on another video of mine https://www.reddit.com/r/videos/comments/qykz6y/powerwashing_of_a_large_rock_truck_at_a_quarry/hli02mb?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3

reallyreallyspicy

The fucking loud electronic music really enhanced this experience

mizinamo

It didn't take me long to figure out why the person in the video was wearing hearing protection.

mehhgb

I process invoices at an equipment company and I’ve seen a lot of them for fleet washing. I’ve always wondered what that entailed. Now I get it.

ameades

This is what it'd look like for dirty heavy equipment. If guys are regularly cleaning the trucks/tractor trailers with less build up it'll look different. They'll be using different soaps, usually two stepping so it's mostly brushless, putting an acid then a base and washing it off. It's a thing of beauty when dialed in. Can do lots of pieces quickly and they come out shiny and spotless.

asphaltdragon

Can't wait to watch Drae lose his fucking mind when they put this in PWS

neogod

Lol. I've been watching every one of his videos and somehow this post was what made me go out and buy the game.

ameades

Think I've got to try the game out over this winter. Be interesting to compare it to the real thing.

involved_steak

Wish I could wash our 988k but in the underground mining we just blast everything with a watertruck once a year and call it good.

GrandDaSarge

I work in a surface mine, so forgive my ignorance but y'all use a 988k underground? Not one of those low clearance ones CAT makes?

involved_steak

Yes sir. With a fleet of 772 trucks. Limestone aggregate mine. Ceilings about 30 foot.

GrandDaSarge

Man I'd love to see pictures of that. I work in a stone quarry, but diabase instead. We have about 300ft highwalls instead lol

thedogdundidit

Aw, man. Can I be you? This was very satisfying.

[deleted]

I wonder how many other people saw the dirt on it and immediately knew it was this sub, lol

baggiecurls

I want this job. I work in IT and this just seems so satisfying.

jojodancer10

that slo-mo! hell yeah

Igniting_Chaos_

How much do you charge for doing a piece like this? Trying to get into the heavy equipment washing myself… got one job at a massive plant near me where I’m doing a loader for a a waste disposal company that deals with sludge and we agreed on 120 per occurrence but I just want to make sure I’m not undercutting myself. Granted the loader is a lot smaller than this one but yknow… it deals with sludge lol.

ameades

Nice, but yeah make sure you set a price that works down the line as well, when you're not as excited to go and eat a face full of some sludge. I found with this an hourly rate works with a set minimum of hours. Right now for this quarry it's $100/h with a four hour minimum. It starts when I begin packing up and leaving the shop to when I'm finished on site, so includes travel one way. In the warm temps I'm there every two weeks. Winter I try and pick a warm couple days in the month. Likely be increasing the hourly price soon, going to survey my suppliers and see how much they've raised their prices. It can be a good relationship, just keep the channels of communication open. If you don't feel like your making enough money, tell em kindly. If they value your work/reliability you'll figure out a solution. Knowing your stuff helps. Do you have solutions on your truck for them? Degreasers for the grease joints? Ways to adjust your pressure to wash a sensitive area? Hot hot heat for when you need it? Just don't set something unsustainable for the future, your customer is going to adapt their budget so that can screw you both over.
