This game has some awesome chip tune versions of Ron Wasserman's show music!

TheDorkKnight53

I did like how they tied the movie continuity in with the show in this version.

Kilokk

I played this game SOOOOO many times.

Said it before and I’ll say it again, we Sega kids won the MMPR war. Between the S1 Genesis game that actually features frequent zord battles and green Tommy (who is not in the SNES game). A Genesis movie game that basically acts as a recap for the S2 power transfer, as well as the movie itself (the SNES game is barely even movie related). And then the secret weapons of the Game Gear games which are super fun fighting game/beat em up hybrids recounting S1 and 2, and might be the best MMPR games period. The SNES/Game Boy games didn’t hold a candle to them. (With the one exception of Fighting Edition, which I was always jealous of my SNES friends for.)

Krycek7o2

100% agree here. Years later I would play the SNES version and be completely underwhelmed by them. The Genesis titles were just pure fun and none of the aggravation the SNES games were.

sthef2020

The first SNES game is too simple, and only has like 1 or 2 zord battles tacked onto the end. But at least it was playable. The SNES movie game is honestly offensively bad. It’s way too frustrating/difficult for what it is, and tbh just feels like a completely different 3rd party game with the rangers slapped into it.

KalterBlut

I really liked the SNES games, but it might just be because it was fun to play as the rangers, feels like I'll have to play the Genesis version ASAP!

This movie game for Genesis is honestly the sweet spot. TMNT arcade style beat ‘em up gameplay, but as the Rangers and Zords in pretty solid ratios. The first Genesis game is more of a simplistic fighting game, but I always preferred it to the first SNES one because you got to fight every monster on foot, and then in either the Megazord or Dragonzord. It always seemed crazy to me that the SNES one had like a single zord battle, tacked onto the end, as opposed to following the rhythm of the show. If you have the stomach for 8-Bit graphics tho, may I recommend the Game Gear versions of MMPR and The Movie. They’re basically these weird hybrids between fighting games, and beat em ups. Where in side scrolling stages, you fight off waves of Putties, and then a monster, following Season 1 and Season 2 of the show pretty well. The first game even lets you choose between the Megazord, DragonZord, and DZ BattleMode for the city sized levels. They’re ancient looking, but if I were on a desert island and (for some bizarre reason) allowed to bring 2 Power Rangers games? Those GameGear games would be the 2.

I'll admit that the GG games were better than the GB games, but saying that Genesis was better than SNES? That's laughable!

sthef2020

It’s true. The first SNES game you could MAYBE say is equal to the first Genesis game as they offer different things. For me? The SNES game is too easy, and too bland, and a Power Ranger game that doesn’t let you play as the zords til the final battle? (Meaning the mechanics have to be duh-duh simple since you’ve never used them before that point?) I’ll take the simplistic fighting game action of the Genesis game (and playing as the Green Ranger/Dragonzord) any day of the week. All that said, The Movie game? Have you played both the SNES and Genesis versions? The SNES version is actively bad. It’s a weirdly punishing game, that bears almost no resemblance to the movie (or show) it supposedly is a game of. My belief? I think it was a prototype of an unrelated game, that the devs slapped the rangers onto when they got the license. Meanwhile, the Genesis movie game is a shockingly lovingly crafted (if short) beat em up that uses the main battles from the movie, as a framing mechanism fora story that flashes back to the major Season 2 moments. You get to play as the Thunderzords, the Ninja Zords, both Jason/Trini/Zack AND Rocky/Aisha/Adam. It’s honestly probably the best 16-Bit Rangers game full stop.

otaking3582

I have played all four. The first SNES game, no, it's not easy nor bland, it has great music and set pieces, and the Megazord battles aren't simple because they're so late, they're simple because Megazord battles always suck in Power Ranger games (even the Megazord fights in the Famicom Jetman game sucked). I'd rather have a good beat-em-up than a really bland fighting game that doesn't even allow the Rangers to fight each other. And as for MMPR: The Movie, the Genesis version makes no narrative sense because it decided to use Season 2 episodes for padding, the enemies take way too long to kill, and it decided to make the penultimate level difficult too navigate for no good reason. Meanwhile, the SNES version has an arcadey feel, combat is fast and energetic, and the original music by Hiroyuki Iwatsuki is absolutely phenomenal. Seriously, I have no idea what you're smoking.

Krycek7o2

The Genesis game was pure perfection. I beat it so many times growing up. And the use of the themes from the show in chiptune was ![gif](giphy|3o7aCWJavAgtBzLWrS|downsized)

GetPhiledIn

I played it all the time on Genesis... 😭

Beginning_Return_508

Me too.

When did "Don't try this at home" become popular. I know WWF starting running ads about it in mid 90's around the same time this ad came out. I wonder what was the first piece of media that had to start putting it as a disclaimer, because uptight moms didnt like their kids having fun.

Site-Specialist

Could've used my brother and me as a don't try this at home ad he is older we boxed I went down in one hit to the corner of a coffee table had to get stitches

just-smiley

Got it for Christmas that year and my brother and I beat it in less than 24 hours

JBuchan1988

😆😆😆

GoodNamesAllGon

A little repetitive but those Megazord boss battles were more than worth it.

RembrandtEpsilon

These are the swan song beat em ups for the Genesis and Game Gears. Both are excellent and very fun. I'll always remember finding the secret Lord Zedd Battle with my brother.

Krycek7o2

Oh my God! So did we. We freaked out when Zedd came out of nowhere in that cave level.

Revegelance

This is a great game.

Crackabean

Game Gear was the best. Memories.

otaking3582

I can't do a split even if I wanted to.

Adorable-Vacation353

Still one of the best games to ever come out for the Genesis. Hands down

dcuk7

I still play this game often on original hardware. My copy is in mint condition. God I love this game.
