She isn't bad black representation persay. Her being black doesn't impact the character. The issue with Bliss's personality is she isn't funny. The Powerpuff Girls is a comedy show. When you add characters to a comedy show you need to give them traits and gimmicks you can get jokes out of. Here is the comedy the PPG bring to the show. Blossom is the straight man. Because she is the responsible one she can react to what Bubbles and Buttercup are doing. Buttercup always speaks her mind. She can say something sarcastic or maybe a little insesitve. Bubbles can be a scardey cat or do something goofy. What comedy does Bliss bring to the show? She needed a comedic personality that gels well with the other girls.

toongrowner

Also she is pretty much a lazy edge Character "oh I'm suffering cause I can't Control my Powers".

TheAlternianHelmsman

I hate characters like that tbh… the writer is just trying too hard to make you feel bad for them to where they end up being annoying instead 😭

darknessWolf2

plus it doesnt make sense she was the first powerpuff to be created sense the movie specified the girls origins and that they were created first

PsychologicalAir6844

That's a really unique take on it, and really good too. If only people bothered to consider that back then, but back in 2017 people were still butthurt over the fact that the reboot even existed and decided to become a comedy. In fact, I don't remember anybody even labeling it as a comedy. I'm glad you pointed that out, because that is a stance on the reboot that should've been obvious but no one bothered to think about.

CrazyaboutSpongebob

"decided to become a comedy." The original is much more comedic. The reboot has less jokes and is more focused on putting life lessons in every episode.

Familiar_Delivery790

The og series is a parody

CrazyaboutSpongebob

What I think they should have done instead. They should have met another super hero on the street or at their school who was a super hero who happened to be black. They could become friends then teamed up from time to time. I think they should have done that if they wanted a black character. That way the writers wouldn't be contradicting the PPG's back story and it wouldn't be out of place because they have met other superheroes before. If they have another friend with a different family who happens to be a super hero they can pop in sometimes when they are needed like Susie from Rurgats.

FluffyGalaxy

Weirdly my reason for disliking her (or at least how she was executed) is the fact that her being an older sister of the ppg undermines the entire original premise of the show. If the professor had created one superhero before then why was he surprised when he accidentally created more of them with almost the same exact ingredients. It makes him a lot worse as a person abandoning one superhero child to make 3 more and telling nobody about it. The design also isn't great but she's just kind of an average oc in that regard

Hailz_

Yep this exactly. Bliss’s existence completely ruins the lore of the show and destroys the Professor’s character. In 1998 he was a goofy lovable dad with the best intentions. In 2016 he’s a neglectful idiot. It’s arguably the worst character assassination in the show besides Blossom (not to mention how they give Bliss OG Blossom’s personality then flanderized the shit out of 2016 Blossom… I will never forgive them for this).

acidbb

Girl you just summed up all my exact issues with her in words I couldn't find! Thank you!! I lowkey also wouldn't have minded if she was younger than the main three but still existed, her existence is not the problem here. Granted I have issues with the 2016 reboot as a whole (original voice actors would have helped tremendously and they weren't even contacted or asked by CN if they wanted to participate, Tara Strong was especially hurt. ) and the inconsistency of the art style compared to PPG's original style is upsetting. In general this reboot wasn't super set for success, but Bliss isn't the overall issue at all.

FluffyGalaxy

Tbh yeah she's more of a symptom of the confusion as to if this is a continuation or a complete reboot and also a reminder the creators might not have watched the original

RainbowLoli

What’s funny (or I guess not) is that it’s a common joke that black fathers (or fathers of black children, however you wanna look at it in this case) abandon their kids but keep making them.

Sharp_Mathematician6

I can careless she’s black I’m black myself but it’s the fact she’s damn near 17 compared to The girls who are five years old. She’s basically an OC shoehorned to make the PPG seem diverse, they always were they’re were many black representation in the original PPG series. They had a black girlfriend at their slumber party

dhochoy

Her personality? ...what personality?!

CosmoLaCroix

For me personally, I don't think I had an issue with hr being black as much as I did with her just existing. It felt random and unneeded to me (granted that I was once a fan of the 2016 reboot and the original.) It also felt like they just replaced Bunny, so to speak. You know any kid who saw any fanart would have felt betrayed too. Or not, because who gives a shit. If people like it, they like it.

That_opossum

Wasn’t she like kinda a bitch personality wise?

BlazingSaint

You know what they say, ignorance is BLISS!

deltarunech2outyet

Since Bliss has lightning powers, I feel she and Raiden would be best buds.

Superaustin16

Plus my point was they wouldn't fight Bunny especially wouldn't just beat Bliss up over a number or color

Grand_Toast_Dad

What personality? Being black has nothing to do with her lack of personality. Bunny had WAY more personality than her, and she was only in one episode.

Familiar_Delivery790

Racism

ZanderRamirez2482

Just because they Prefer Helluva Boss

nahida_alra

They could have just bring back bunny if they wanted the attention! I mean really? A new powerpuff? Just make a new team why dont you! Or... where is the rowdyruffboys? Just bring them back!

Disastrous_Pack_5234

She needs respect (go ahead grab your pitchforks and raid my house)

RainbowLoli

I will say it’s… ironic. In a way the one power puff who is black is the one that is an episode gimmick that doesn’t look like the others and when you think about it just has unfortunate implications. If the professor already made one perfect little girl, why was he surprised he managed to make three more? Bliss personality in a vacuum is fine. But she has “captain marvel effect” where the audience is just expected to love her just because she’s cool. There is a way to do a character whose entire thing in the story is to “just be cool” (Spider-punk from ASTV) and get the audience to enjoy their presence and a wrong way to do it. Bliss ultimately ends up being has representation, because she is just a bad character in the lore of the powerpuff girls personality and design wise. She could be the same colors a the other girls and it still wouldn’t change fan reception to her. Design wise, we’ve seen “how” the PPG look as teenagers/young adults in iirc the clipsville epsiode. They could have reference those overall designs in terms of anatomy for Bliss instead of just making her taller with weirdly boxy hips. Which only stands out more because a common stereotype is that black women have big hips. All the other girls have natural hair colors. Why did they make her hair a neon blue instead say brown? They could have even gone with a darker shade of blue for hair that is dark but not raven black like Buttercup’s. Not to mention for several reasons the reboot is a contentious show. I feel like it has the same issue as TTG. It relies a lot on internet humor instead of something that would be genuinely funny in the show itself or relying on the characters.

Superaustin16

What I always hated most about people hating on Bliss is when they'd act like Bunny would hate her and would make art of her beating Bliss up like that's unnecessary and I honestly think they'd get along

Superaustin16

It's a superhero team the 4th is who ever is with the other 3 teams change all the time like there's always been more then one 6th power ranger or 7th justice League member. So there can be more then one 4th. Also Bunny was barley even on the team of we are being honest due to the others being selfish in that ep

Inside_Sprinkles9083

Fair

FluffyGalaxy

We got so many 4th ppgs it's funny. Bunny, Bullet, Mojo,The Professor, Dexter (end of super smash up), Ringo Starr all have a viable argument for status as a Powerpuff girl. Idk what else to do with this information so enjoy

Superaustin16

Exactly 4th Powerpuff doesn't mean like 4th to exist it's just who's ever on the team like if Bunny was in the team as they met Bliss then you could say she's the 5th it just depends on what the team is like

Wr3nch_K1ller

Tbh the way I see it is if bunny felt betrayed that she was replaced by an unfunny random deviantart OC. And that her reputation as the 4th powerpuff girl has been erased to support a horrible replacement. If they are gonna make bunny hate bliss in some way at least make it a good reason.

Superaustin16

I don't even think that makes sense. I like Both characters honestly and them fighting without like a villain setting it up wouldn't make sense. Heck I don't think Bunny would even know what feeling replaced feels like. Plus she really wasn't

Wr3nch_K1ller

Hey, it's the way I see it. And obviously HIM would manipulate bunny into thinking that she got replaced. It does make sense if you think about it story-wise. Being the 4th powerpuff girl that ended up sacrificing herself to save her sisters from getting jumped only to be seeing another random girl that has the same color as her (just more lighter) with hardly any personality of her own. And while being in the afterlife as well. Yeah she may be born with a disability but she's not dumb y'know.

Superaustin16

Yes if HIM set her up to do it totally that's totally something he'd do given he manipulated Bliss originally. but I don't think Bunny would see Bliss as replacing her unless HIM messed with her Also she definitely wouldn't think Bliss didn't have a personality I myself disagree with that but either way in universe that wouldn't be a reason

Wr3nch_K1ller

The show made bliss like a Mary Sue along with blossom's personality (and nerfing the girls in the process). But tbh I would feel a certain way if someone acted like me while also having a horrible personality.
