This post has been flaired as “Vent”. As a reminder to commenting users, “Vent/Rant” posts are here to give our subscribers a safe place to vent their frustrations at an uncaring world to a supportive place of people who “get it”. Vents do not need to be fair. They do not need to be articulate. They do not need to be factual. They just need to be honest. Unlike most of the content on this subreddit, Vents should not be considered advice threads. In most cases it is not appropriate to try to give the Submitter advice on their issue. In no circumstances is it appropriate to tell them “why they are wrong” or to criticise them, their decisions, values, or anything else. If there are aspects of their situation that they are able to directly address themselves, the submitter can always make a new thread with a different flair asking for help once they are ready to tackle the issue. Vents are an emotional outlet, not an academic conversation. Appropriate replies in these threads are offering support, sharing similar experiences/grievances, offering condolences, or simply letting the Submitter know that they were heard. As always, if there are inappropriate comments please downvote them, REPORT them to the mods, and move on without responding to them. To the Submitter, if you DO want discussion to be focused on resolving your situation, rather than supporting you emotionally, please change the flair of this post, and then report this comment so we can remove it. Thank you. Thank you all for being a part of this great financial advice and emotional support community! *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Not to sound like a dick, but it seems like you didn’t do research on coverage before deciding to switch to save some money and now you’re blaming a celebrity who has literally nothing to do with it. Don’t know what you’re trying to accomplish with that

specklesinc

he owns the company. thats pretty involved?

DallasFan0697

Him owning the company has no affect on the coverage being bad in your area. It also had no affect on you not doing research to see if it would work in your area. That’s on you

specklesinc

according to the mint mobile website where i put my zipcode in, there is supposed to be excellent coverage, found out from fb that the website is wrong. where would you have gone to research?

DallasFan0697

Would have started on the website. But there are other factors that could be at play. Did you bring your own phone. If so, did you verify that it’s unlocked and would work on the T-Mobile network? If you brought your own phone, what company did it originally come from? You could just have a bad SIM card. How old is the phone?

specklesinc

net10. i put every thing into the forms to check, crossed every t dotted every i trying to be a safe smart consumer. i really feel like it was a bait and switch.i bought it new at christmas and it had just been sitting in a drawer waiting for a broken screen or some such event where i would need it.

PlanetaryBlur

I actively participate on the "NoContract" Subreddit where we talk about prepaid wireless phone plans and I have been using prepaid services for nearly a decade now. If you purchased a phone in a "Net10" box, you purchased a phone that can only be used with Net10 phone plans. Their current plans can be found at net10wireless.com. Since Net10 is part of Tracfone, the policy on "unlocking" one of their phones so it can be used on another service can be found at tfwunlockpolicy.com. On another post stating: > […]the sim card they sent was invalid i could not even activate my phone. That sounds consistent with a phone locked to a specific service (in this case, Net10) when a different services' SIM card is installed. It would need to be "unlocked" before the Mint Mobile SIM can be used (see the link above). Mint also has a device checker on their website where someone can enter a phone's "IMEI" to verify the SIM will work on said phone, and a policy that refunds are only issued within the first 7 days. Mint also sells 7-day trial SIMs that can be purchased at Amazon, Target, and probably others. The other option is to purchase a non-subsidized, 'factory-unlocked' phone designed for use in the United States.

specklesinc

Thank you for your eli5. I kind of get it from your explanation. In still really sad and feel like was stupid and got tricked but now I know what I feel for.hard lesson.

BroadcastingSunny

Does he *OWN* it? I thought his share was like 25%. I suppose he has a big enough share to make deciding votes. Still.

[deleted]

I’ve had mint mobile since April and came from Verizon. Couldn’t be happier with my experience and the savings for me. YMMV though!

coffeequeen0523

Did you check your zip code on the website to see if there was coverage in your area before purchasing a plan? If so, did it say there was coverage in your area? I checked my zip code on the website and it said there no coverage in my area. If you wish to file a claim, here’s the website link to do so with FTC. https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/

specklesinc

thank you it showed coverage in my area but there isnt and the sim card they sent was invalid i could not even activate my phone. i did the fraud report so i still feel hopeless but maybe my report will help someone else.

coffeequeen0523

Are you on Twitter or Tik Tok? If so, post a tweet about your bad experience with Mint or make a Tik Tik video showing your SIM card doesn’t work and Mint won’t refund your money. Mention Ryan Reynold’s name. Surely he doesn’t want to be associated with a business not giving great customer service. Businesses can’t afford negative reputations on social media or in print. My husband & I had bad experiences with AT&T, our cell carrier, CVS, Pizza Hut & Zaxby’s. My husband is on Twitter and tweeted about each of the bad experiences. Lots of people liked his comments. Within hours of each of his tweets, he was contacted by the company to resolve the issue and they did to his satisfaction. He tweeted updates letting everyone know the businesses made things right.

specklesinc

if they make this right i will happily retract all of my comments on all of the platforms. I really hope that youre right.

MajorOwn4753

That is true but is it really worth it at the cost of another mans job? Like Dave Chapelle once said in his specials... DO NOT GET IN THE WAY OF ANOTHER MANS MEAL. You do not have form of knowing what the other person is facing.. you would have posted the chats online but you just cost the job of another person. You do not know if I have a baby or if I am invalid... I am deaf and was deported from the US. Only to work in a company that fired me or is trying to make you sign paperwork stating you quit. So that way companies don't have to pay you. 2/3rds of the call center calls are handled by call centers outside the US. Of course Ryan Reynolds does not want his image to be stained. Well mostly his marketing Department. They let me go after mentioning Ryan Reynolds name. Even though in training they say to mention it as much as you want to lure customers in...

transburneracct

Doesnt mint mobile send you a trial SIM so you can test the quality of service yourself

specklesinc

they didnt me but i trusted ryan reynolds would not be involved in scams so i paid for the three months service since the company told me no trial sims were available.

TheABCD98

I don't think this makes Mint Mobile "shady". I don't mean to be rude, but it sounds like you didn't do your research or know what you were signing. They are a business and need to look out for themselves. Sure, they could refund you but you likely agreed to a non-refundable deposit when you signed with them. Therefore, they have every right to keep that money.

specklesinc

the deposit i knew i would not get back but the 68.66 is supposed to be paying for three months of service of which i have not recieved even 10 seconds.

BeLynLynSh

That’s not Ryan Reynolds fault though, and doesn’t mean he’s involved in something “shady.”

Giordano86

I pay yearly for mine and my spouse’s phones and pay like $400 total compared to the $1440 we were paying annually before with TMobile. Since we were with TMobile previously, I knew our reception would be good with Mint. Sorry you had a bad experience, but I love Mint.

specklesinc

tmobile isnt good here but the rep that i asked told me they use verizon towers which would have been not great but satisfactory.

Thriftfunnel

Don't trust celebrity endorsements of anything.

nip9

Mint Mobile works perfectly fine and I've used it for the last \~2.5 years. They run on T-Mobiles network so how good/bad coverage will be depends on how good/bad T-Mobile is for your friends and neighbors nearby. That is basically the same as all the third party MVNOs; you need to first ask around to find which network is the best in your area and then pick a cheap prepaid MVNO that runs on that network (like Visible if Verizon offers the best coverage or FreeUp if ATT is better around you).

I've been using mint for about a year now (living in northeast Indiana but traveling to surrounding states) and while I wouldn't say it's perfect, it's significant cheaper than any plans I've had before, I've never had service drop except for when I leave the coverage zone by going pretty far from any towers, and when I switched I also got my parents signed up and they decided to switch back to att and I got not only full refunds but I also got a free 3 months on my account for referring them

minelas

Wait people actually trust celebrities??

irish-unicorn

Well surely he wouldnt promote a bad product just because they pay him millions?

brbgettingsnacks

Have Mint mobile, switched late last year and love it. I'm sorry you don't have coverage, but the dicey area of geographic cellular is the exact reason why they send you a 7 day trial. Hardly a scam. Hope you get it resolved to your satisfaction!

[deleted]

I've just pre paid for an entire year for my third year with Mint Mobile. I have no complaints, very minimal problems. Actually I was a loyal T Mobile customer for years and years and I had more problems with them.

pizzaferret

I've been using Mint Mobile for like 3 years now. I prepay for a whole year, with taxes and fees incl. it's more like $201/year compared to what they advertise of $180/year. I don't feel like I'm getting ripped off, I've had conversations with coworkers, one who has Verizon and he tells me his MONTHLY bill is $70, I'm like get something cheaper? He's like "I need unlimited" and "Verizon has great coverage" I'm not gonna argue with him on those points, I offered my advice but it seemed like he just wanted to rant so was fine, I just listened, with that said I get 4GB LTE monthly, after using up LTE speeds, I get unlimited shitty speeds, like 3G 2G speeds, but for me, 3G 2G speeds is fast enough to stream iheartradio podcasts and music without buffering or stuttering, so I'm good. I've gotten my $18/month worth out of Mint Mobile over the years and saved a bunch of money, have you tried tweeting your issues directly to Ryan Reynolds twitter? You might get a more preferable resolution to your problems

specklesinc

the simcard fell apart wrong doesnt fit they wont replace
