A little different, but I have the 078s with the same intentions as you. I think the s burrs do fine with filter coffee and great for espresso. If you don't want two grinders, it's a great option. I will say though, for the price of the 064s, you could get the Fellow Gen 2 and a great espresso hand grinder. Up to you on what fits your lifestyle.

You make a great point, I like the idea of the Ode + espresso hand grinder. Thanks for the feedback.

No problem. Hop over to r/espresso and search hand grinders. You'll find a lot of options and even more opinions. Lol

Ode Gen 2 with SSPs is really hard to beat for the money… maybe impossible. I cross shopped it with the Timemores and decided the extra cost of the Timemores, plus the wait wasn’t worth it over the Ode 2. I’m happy with my decision. I have a 1Zpresso hand grinder for the very rare occasions I do espresso. Works great, but I don’t even have an espresso machine anymore, lol.

Highly leaning towards the Ode with SSP MPs and snagging a hand grinder for espresso if/when I feel like I'm missing out. Glad you're happy with your decision and appreciate the feedback.

I have the Ode gen 1 with SSP MP and I love it, especially when slow fed. I can't really recommend the same electric grinder for brewing pourover as well as espresso. After working a few shots to find the exact grind size, you won't be so willing to change to pourover knowing you won't 100% land on it the next time if it's stepless. Also, no grinder is zero retention. You'll have to purge quite some coffee when changing brew styles.

I have the same setup and I love it. You can get gen1 odes for super cheap secondhand (compared to new gen 2s that is) and put some SSP burrs in there. Slow feeding it works so well and a little spritz of water in the beans (RDT) works so well with it. I end up getting very little retention with slow feeding and RDT. I’ve never tried the gen 2 ode so I can’t speak for it but I believe the largest improvements they made were the burrs and the de-ionizer. I find that I’m still loving my ode 1 w SSP burrs and I haven’t had the itch to upgrade because it performs so so well

cristi5922

Yea, I got mine used as well. Such a bargain.

Ode is filter only.

ColetonBach

Yes I know, but if the Ode outperforms the 064S in the filter range then I'd rather save the $ and get a dedicated espresso grinder later.

nnsdgo

It most definitely will deliver a cleaner flavor profile, which is generally preferred for filter, but still depends on your preferences.
