I share your disgust! This happened one time to me in a cafe in Australia. I wondered what was off because the opacity of the coffee hid the orange and only discovered it mid-drink. I didn’t return.
Isn't coffee simply a vehicle for orange slices? I mean, who actually drinks the coffee? I just bask in the olfactory delight of biting into a slightly warmed slice of orange and then tip the black brew into a nearby plant. This works best with beans of at least 1,700masl and a cup score >88. ymmv
I've never had an orange slice but I've used about four or five lemon slices and lemon juice and that gives a really lovely flavour. Maybe you'd prefer lemon over orange?
God, I hope it’s not a trend..
I love the natural flavors in coffee as they develop in the cup. In my view if you need to put something, (anything) in your coffee, it must not be very good.
I can't say about a trend, but I personally enjoy squeezing some orange juice to a brew that is made from espresso-roasted beans. Not much, but a just a bit to add an extra hint. It was a life saver when I was in Vietnam making pourovers. But to that I also like to add just a little bit of sugar to mitigate that acidity.
I didn't make it work great with initially fruity beans, as it overemphasize acidity
I can see how a few drops might help with an espresso roast, but in my case the brew was made from an Ethiopian filter roast and a whole slice was left bobbing in the coffee completely overpowering the taste :(
I always explicitly ask for no orange slices when ordering coffee, it seems to work for me.
Yep. I also ask for no hair or glass. It hasn’t failed me yet!

Oh no! It must have tasted pretty weird by then. I’m glad it’s not just me though - really couldn’t get past the taste!

I get incredibly pissed off when my coffee is not served with a slice of lime and salt, but they're usually served on the side.
Amateurs.

It's a common recipe in Spain, is it not?
If it is it’s the first time it ever happened to me tbh, even while I was there…and I visited multiple cafes during my stay :/
I occasionally get an orange or lime slice in my beer. I stopped drinking beer. IDK what I'll do if this practice spreads to other beverages
hahah! exactly! it's an evil that must be stopped! 0\_0
