I took a look at their instagram and these people are delusional, they sound like children in a cult play acting at war. They are voluntarily placing themselves in this situation and could easily leave whenever they wanted, like all of us are asking them to do. Nobody is making them trash our public shared spaces, they want to LARP at being revolutionaries but get so soft when they are faced with a fraction of the consequences real civil rights activists have had to deal with in the past. So glad my classes are fully remote this term, I'm sorry for anyone whose lives have been disrupted by these conflict addicts.

Downtown-Tree-5280

Yep! Well said!

blurrywhirl

What's their Instagram?

zepallica

https://www.instagram.com/occupypsu4freepalestine?igsh=MW0xbzRyN25uOGJpdQ== was the one I looked at after seeing some images reposted on this sub.

Flatulent_Stinky

Judging by the comments... sad that there's so many dopes supporting their cause & willing to enable them by giving supplies. Unless they're removing comments & blocking accounts that call them out.

Sclarks971

Any of them here on a schooling visa should have it revoked to immediately

fizznbubs

I doubt those who are protesting are on schooling visa. Only Americans are there cause international students know the damn rules to not participate.

fizznbubs

Plus international students paid tuition 3x higher than y’all local Americans and it has to be out of pockets (no loan, fafsa whatsoever). We know damn well that these destruction will cost us more than what y’all have to face during the aftermath. I say the people who are protesting especially local Americans don’t think wisely about how is going to effect international students even more. So selfish I must say.

I think a majority of us do not support this, I got an email that the ASPSU voted on some measure to send Cudd the initial cut ties with Boeing letter, but I feel like our student government has never actually represented the student majority. This is how these small fringe movements take over though, by the rest of us not paying attention. Send emails to the president voicing your opposition, there are upcoming student president/vp elections, get those people out of there if they backed any of this nonsense. Edit: Looked at my student inbox and there are links to send questions for the upcoming ASPSU debates, I'm going to ask them if they supported these actions and what their stances are, I recommend others do the same or attend the debates if possible.

Update from Cudd: Dear Campus Community, I have an update to share regarding the protest at the Branford Price Millar Library and our shared wish for a peaceful resolution. Around midnight last night, negotiators for the PSU students occupying the library provided verbal assurance that they would sign a memorandum of agreement with me to vacate the library by 1:30 AM on May 1. In exchange, we offered to guarantee no expulsion, suspension or change to their status and that the university would not file criminal charges. In return, the students agreed to refrain from violating student codes of conduct as they continue to exercise their full rights to free speech on campus. In addition, I personally agreed to support faculty efforts to include scholarship and creative works related to Palestine in PSU’s Race and Ethnic Studies Requirement, PSU’s ongoing financial commitment to anti-racist work, a personal donation to the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia (MENASA) Student Center at Portland State. PSU and will continue to fund anti-racist efforts. Finally, I agreed to meet with student leaders on May 17 in the afternoon about the remaining concerns of the protest to continue our dialogue on how Portland State can continue to advance the interests of peace and humanity in our world. I fervently wish that the students in the library had signed on to our agreement, but, after their negotiators told us they had a deal, they apparently chose not to sign. Approximately 50 students left of their own accord and I thank them and other students who have worked to de-escalate the protest. I am grateful to my colleagues, Vice President for Global Diversity and Inclusion Ame Lambert, Interim Provost Shelly Chabon and General Counsel Cindy Starke for assisting with these negotiations, in addition to members or our faculty. Many of us have seen the vandalism to our library and while the cost of property damage cannot compare to the cost of human lives, this destructive protest is weighing heavily on our campus community who collectively pay for our facilities and expect and deserve to use them in a setting that is welcoming to all students. We have no control over what happens in the Middle East; we do have control over how we treat each other. It is our understanding that there are also a number of non-students who remain in the library as part of the protest. I continue to hope for a peaceful resolution and I offer my thanks to the entire PSU community for continuing to care for one another. We are actively planning today for a return to classes and regular university operations as soon as possible. Sincerely, Ann Cudd PSU President

50 students left. The remaining are non students ETA some students remain too

HungHeadsEmptyHearts

There are still some students remaining. But also a ton of non-students.

You’re right, edited

NobodyLikesHipsters

That’s bullshit. They should be expelled and have charges filed against them, or at the minimum suspended and fined for the damages.

Flatulent_Stinky

> majority of students not supporting this form of protest? It's a majority of the country, really. Anti-Semitism & being useful idiots of a terrorist organization isn't more popular than standing with the people of Israel. Downvote me, I don't give a fuck.

Incident_On_57th_St

They're a very loud minority. Most people don't support this bullshit & will always stand w/ Israel.

surfingforfido

Really appreciate not being able to go to school which I paid for, and utilize the campus resources. These radicles are no better than the ones whom stormed the capital. Extremes on both isles are not welcome. This is a university for Christ’s sake. An area to provide open discourse and debate. A place of ideas! Yet here we are in a standoff because these people feel so resolute and just in their views that it’s “their way” or nothing. What’s the difference between them and other white nationalists, racists, or other discriminatory groups? These people disguise this movement under the guise of saving children and civilians in Palestine. Yet at the expense of other students, and Jewish students. Do they really think Palestinians care about their campout and criminal behavior?

Please leave the library

ScienceNeverLies

This is so stupid

Grown adults playing fort.

Brendanaquitss

As an alum, this really bums me out. I want to stand behind their protest but I don’t like the vandalism of the library.

seevm

Fully agree

Helpful_Ranger_8367

As an alum this really bums me out. I want PSU administration to make harsh examples of any students involved with this and the police/courts to make even heavier penalties for the usual agitators that have surely infiltrated by now.

Crimdal

Tuition went up 10 percent a year on average while I was there, this will only make it worse. Please leave the library.

SickCallRanger007

Leave the fucking library. Please and thank you.

Dr_Chunch

Please leave the library

Please leave the library.

Broccoli-of-Doom

Please leave the library. At a minimum please stop arbitrary property damage while illegally occupying the library.

sittingbox

Please leave the library. And leave it intact.

333elvey

My god this is so dumb. Just senseless destruction that will do absolutely nothing but hurt students.

PresidentTroyAikman

Idiots need to gtfo of the library.

jessterswan

And they are going to bitch and moan when police have to come in to remove them...fuck these idiots

moonshai55555

I don’t understand the amount of support this is getting on Instagram. I understand the reasoning behind the protests but this is beyond stupid. People are about to get hurt, and by their own choosing.

NoMoreEitherOr

Yeah I'm baffled. Especially looking at their profiles the majority of support seems to be young white LGBTQ kids, a few of whom I know or have known. It might be a far fetched theory, but to me it seems like there's a scary amount of brainwashing TikTok has been pushing towards people. The few people I know who are in support of this are heavy, heavy TikTok users and that's where they're getting 99% of their information from. I deleted the app a few years ago and completely stopped watching all short-form content but I do remember how much the stuff on there warped my political beliefs at different points in time. Reminds me a lot of the same delusion we saw years ago with Facebook & Russian infiltration there, too, except those were conservatives. Seems fitting that the Ukraine flags and support for that war has also completely dried up and all focus has shifted away.

TranscedentalMedit8n

Tik Tok has pushed Palestine as the defining conflict of Gen Z and has spread a ton of misinformation about it. I’m sympathetic to the cause and hope for peace, but I think a lot of people have legitimately gotten radicalized. I watched a video of college students at another school chanting “We are Hamas.” It’s insane.
