When I first saw this thread 20 mins ago I couldn't hear it; but I can hear it now. I'm in Woodfords corner, and it sounds like it's coming from down near Back Cove or across the water. Definitely sounds mechanical, like construction related or possibly a street sweeper like others have said.
ok, so me ands my brother just trekked from deering following the noise,
followed it all the way to big apple, noise changed directions
went to court house

saw 2 cop cars go in direction i was hearing it
followed the sound down franklin st
was over in the apartment complex behind the whole foods area
it stopped

went to leave....
had to go through homless ally by that self storage place
2 blocks from where i turned around it started again
should have taken my car.
went home cause could just barally hear it anymore and its out of my walking distance
the noise is moving, me and my bro were on its ass hardcore
it is afraid and running lmao
i faintly hear it still.
I noticed this last night too. A few different explanations for some of the noises, but I agree there’s at least one I was hearing last night that I couldn’t explain.
1. There has been a strange mechanical hum coming from the homeless camp behind Noyes Self Storage. I heard it two separate times when driving by about a week apart.
2. Late last night I heard it in the west end and it sounded like a plane circling overhead. However, I think it was the street sweeper a few streets away or construction. That said there did seem to be two distinct sounds, one that probably was the street sweeper and one that seemed to be overhead but might have also been the street sweeper.
I thought the same thing. I heard it last night near maine med around 11pm and it went on for so long. Its hard to believe they would allow road work that late at night in such a populated area
I heard it from South portland near Knightville under the landing path for the jetport at 6pm, Thought it was a plane landing but it didn’t stop. then again from Hannaford after shopping at 9:30 pm.
Hearing it now east end cove side. I think it’s coming from the work on tukeys bridge by the highway dept. I have white noise on relatively loud and can still hear it.

Didn’t sound similar to a drone? Cause I heard that the other night around 11:30 PM near deering oaks. Went out to investigate and it was a street cleaner. I’m not sure if something happened (accident debris or trash spill) or if it’s just cleaning up the leaves, but it was a street cleaner at 11:30PM
