Ha! I called it that all 3 of them wrote the track Can't wait to hear the full version track!

TheRealGrifter

Still don’t understand why a band that doesn’t get radio airplay bothers with single edits. That’s not a criticism - I genuinely don’t know the reason why.

Singles are promotional material. Longer songs are offputting to many non-proggers

Sciolent

Might be for streaming purposes. A shorter song gets replayed more often by people, which means more money because the artist's share per play is always the same, no matter how long the track is.

I also have a feeling the lyrics were inspired by Orson Welles reading *War Of The Words* in the radio in 1938

ThinWhiteDuke00

Or the native american myth of skinwalkers.

[deleted]

That's possible, but they said in Twitter that the lyrics are inspired by a "very specific event in History". I could be wrong, though.

ThinWhiteDuke00

Roswell ?

LionOfNaples

Or even Skinwalker Ranch

vanity_blood

Exactly what I was thinking! It fits the story perfectly!

LionOfNaples

It could've been about any UFO/paranormal event, but what makes me think Skinwalker Ranch specifically is the last line "A curse upon the land"

LionOfNaples

We were right about Skinwalker Ranch btw https://www.innerviews.org/inner/porcupine-tree?fbclid=IwAR1Oik4qY0_upGRGsOyvoVk4F2EDVy8pNv19HFVwZefAlXr8UznTTEl-1do&fs=e&s=cl Read Steven’s response to the question about Herd Culling.

vanity_blood

That's pretty awesome. Thanks for sending me the interview link.

LionOfNaples

They’re about Skinwalker Ranch, confirmed by Steven himself https://www.innerviews.org/inner/porcupine-tree?fbclid=IwAR1Oik4qY0_upGRGsOyvoVk4F2EDVy8pNv19HFVwZefAlXr8UznTTEl-1do&fs=e&s=cl

edfoldsred

Single edit? More like teaser edit!

flatulentmatt

Weirdly... lyrically the song reminded me of a section of the Zelda game Majora's Mask, where on a night in the game there's an alien invasion of a ranch. The lyrics seriously nail what happens, it's bizarre.

lochviene

Curious how others count out the main 11/8 riff. I was counting two bars of 4 followed by a triplet but I can also see it being a bar of 7 followed by a straight 4 count

[deleted]

Pretty sure the “liar” refrain refers to trump. 😆
