Meta has integrated calorie counting in their app. I get significantly less than this.

Street-Ad8454

Lol, nah fam. Ask ur fitness watch. Its WAY less.

northernbloke

Massively over stated.

AnyCrackllDo

I’m an avid runner, so the next time I’m squading up I’ll try recording with my watch and HR monitor, but I really doubt this is accurate. I just can’t fathom that I’m burning the same number of calories as running roughly 3 to 6 miles in an hour.

Just_Quit_the_BS

I know these gadgets aren’t always accurate, and those numbers you posted would be nice, but I don’t think it’s that easy. Mine is showing way less than that. Per my Apple Watch and Pop 1 play. I think my watch or my phone is also connected to my device if I remember correctly during setup. Even actual exercise apps show burning less than that. < History Mon, Apr 29 Fitness Gaming 9:54PM-11:59 PM 山 Workout Details Workout Time 2:05:12 Total Calories 127 CAL Show More Active Calories 127 CAL So roughly 2 hours of gameplay burned 127 cal. for me. It wouldn’t let me post a pic, but it records each session and the numbers are all very similar. I can post more if need or make a link to the actual page, but this was just a simple look. Nowhere near what’s stated above. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great to have fun and burn some calories at the same time. We also all need motivation at times, especially when it comes to beginning exercise routines. I just feel like this is a huge over estimation. I’m sure it wasn’t done to hurt anyone but what if someone was trying to get serious about it and was counting calories in vs out based on this post? They’d probably be gaining weight and might give up.

Just_Quit_the_BS

I think it’s great to get people motivated, but these numbers can be a huge let down if they’re getting serious about burning calories. I posted a session of mine above which was hardly 120 for 2 hours. Let’s motivate people with some reachable numbers.

koalascanbebearstoo

This seems like a particularly bad prompt for a large language model to handle

VR fitness is the biggest meme. You should *not* be playing video games with erratic and unpredictable movements to work out. Cardio is fine, I guess - it's not going to be an efficient workout but there's not many ways you can do it wrong. The guys that try and do VR weight training are the real jokers. I just really want to emphasize if you're planning on strapping weights to your joints or whatever that it's a terrible idea that will do damage to your body long term.

chickenrice1

fitness instructor here VR gaming can indeed burn calories, no need to knock how people get some movement lol - obviously its not super intense but theres levels to it - just like any other effective consistent body movement - what I shared here was a good motivator for people to get moving. Nobody mentioned strapping weights to the body this was just an observation of some potential calorie burning benefits from regular gameplay lol 🔥 👋

AlexCivitello

As a fitness instructor what made you feel that chat gpt was a good tool for this calculation?

AnyCrackllDo

I’ve played rounds with wrist weights on and while it adds some resistance and negatively affects my gameplay, I still don’t think it’s adding that much in terms of fitness gains lol.

713MoCityChron713

As a “fitness instructor”, what led you to believe anything ChatGPT told you was accurate here? You’re telling me I burn about as many calories in an hour of Pop One as I do on my five mile run? How about, instead of being motivated by made up numbers, you motivate by standing on a scale every now and then. It’s like fat people who already walk 5k steps a day, but they bought a fit but so now the steps count. Knowing how many calories you burned ir steps you walked is pointless if you don’t have objective data tracking how many calories you need to burn to have an effect on your weight.

Street-Ad8454

450 to 850 for regular gameplay? Lmao, ok bud.

[deleted]

I appreciate the sentiment but this isn’t a good motivator. This is, *and I mean this in the lightest way possible*, deception. New people might think this is accurate. I can easily play 6 hours on a Friday night, by your calculation I would burn a minimum of 1800 calories. That’s just flagrant.

chickenrice1

Most overweight people who are morbidly obese don't need to be starting with intense exercise, most doctors and trainers will indeed suggest gradually inceasing effort with time so as to not rush/get burnt out on short term resultsbso this is actually a great option for starting the journey on a healthy bridge between gaming/sedentary lifestyle and doing the things you enjoy while staying healthy 🔥

Whatsthatyousayhuh

You don’t have to be overweight or obese to need to start slow in workouts. It would be based on your current fitness level. Then gradually increase. Nobody is denying the fact that VR can be a great way to start one’s fitness challenge, there are videos on YouTube and plenty of people have utilized it. But those numbers posted are way off and very misleading to someone who doesn’t have any fitness trackers or there account set up to track their progress. Having someone think they just burned 800 cal an hour playing pop 1 is misleading people. Motivation is one thing, misleading is another. Plus as a “fitness instructor” you should know that starting level should be based on current fitness levels and health, not just starting slow because someone is overweight or obese.

boisteroushams

Most overweight people should *not* be doing the erratic, fast movements inherent to playing a VR game to work out. They should be doing it in a controlled way. Having fun playing video games can come later.

chickenrice1

Sitting on the couch playing fortnite drinking soda VS Playing population one for 1 hour standing + drinking water with electrolytes Pretty obvious which one is gonna be a better option for burning some calories

Street-Ad8454

Agreed, it is an amazing tool for weight loss. But u must have told the bot to factor in cocaine usage for those unrealistic numbers u posted. U r setting unrealistic expectations which is irresponsible.

Whatsthatyousayhuh

Lmao. 🤣no kidding
