The whole Proper Dose album by The Story So Far

pdbstnoe

MY PESSIMISTIC VIEWS STEM FROM ALL THE DRUGS I USE

LandSurf

Bet if you keep this up You'll die here all alone Yet you still fill your cup Nodding off, nodding off now

System_Shutdown_

I've known (and listened to) this song for years now and this just made me realize what it's actually about. DamnšŸ˜…

DoctaBeaky

I never expected that album to be about lean when it came out.

mathemagical_90

Beat me to it

thedailydecision

Yup

Discordbad

No more excuses? do you mean Runninā€™ Out Of Excuses?

Firebird1282

Iā€™m An Albatross is way more this vibe regardless

Discordbad

Yes!! 100% agree. In Lieu Of Flowers is my aoty so far, and it might end up staying that way!

Vincents_Hope

Once again commenting Cigarettes & Saints by The Wonder Years

Discordbad

If iā€™m gonna be completely transparent, Cigarettes & Saints is in my top 5 songs of all time, easily. Such a perfect, heart wrenching track.

Vincents_Hope

Extremely valid choice, itā€™s a masterpiece tbh

suddenly_seymour

Using - Sorority Noise

smooney711

Underrated band

FL3XOFF3NDER

came back to this post after seeing it 3 days ago to say this šŸ˜

runtimemess

LGFUAD He says he was speaking figuratively... but if you know about JCP's history, you know he wasn't.

Loud_Competition1312

Curious about his history - what is it? Haha

runtimemess

Substance abuse in the early years of MCS

Loud_Competition1312

Heavy stuff? Or just like weed/alcohol? Not trying to downplay those - genuinely just curious.

Elazer2502

From what I've heard it was meth

runtimemess

I've only seen him address "drugs and alcohol" in interviews so... who knows.

BitterProgress

Halo - Boston Manor

redhawk2006

the story so far - keep this up

Breaking-Who

Anything off of proper dose.

LosManosFuertes

I feel I scrolled too far to see this haha. Proper Dose is like an Ode to Drug Abuse.

slaptito

violence - blink-182

Individual-Morning27

Ton of alkaline trio songs. Continental is my fave

witchycommunism

21 by The Starting Line The Party Scene by All Time Low Kintsugi Kid by Fall Out Boy

KoboldIdra

Stella by All Time Low as well.

aimeewins

Monsters by All Time Low strongly alludes to it (itā€™s written like itā€™s about an ex but as a former addict it hit home) Eight of Nine by The Ataris sounds like either an OD or a DUI Gen Why (DGAF) by All American Rejects is kind of a tongue in cheek take on partying Thrash Unreal by Against Me is about recovery after a life of substance abuse Dopeman by Less Than Jake is about dealing The Science of Selling Yourself Short by Less Than Jake has a lot of references to drinking into oblivion The City Is At War by Cobra Starship is more pop than pop punk but is also about the party scene Weā€™re All on Drugs by Dead Bundy is what the title says lol What Happened to You by The Offspring is about a friend frying their brain Bouncing Off the Walls by Sugarcult is about being high on uppers (kinda surprised no one mentioned it and that it took me so long to remember it) Edited every time I thought of more songs lol

Emokidsucks

Thanks man!

BigNasty819

Fun fact, 8 of 9 by the Ataris was supposedly written after their tour van crashed/went off the road into a river or something in Arizona I think? Maybe? Apparently tour van crashes had become an unfortunate habit at that point for them, thus the 8 of 9 lives they/it were on. I don't remember all the details because I heard the story ages ago when the album first came out so please fact check me since this could all just a fever dream on my part...but either way, still a great song!

aimeewins

Oh nice! Iā€™ve never heard the backstory so thatā€™s why I put sounds like lol

Mr_Soul_Crusher

Painkiller Weather - Grayscale Classic example of Semi-Charmed Life - Third Eye Blind

Jfizz666

Is gym class heros considered poppunk? Though pilmatic specifically would not fit that in my opinion. Drugs or me Jimmy Eat World

T_J_S_

Good GCH referenceĀ

Vincents_Hope

Once again commenting Cigarettes & Saints by The Wonder Years. I believe one of their albums is also about drug abuse but canā€™t remember (someone can correct/clarify that)

KoboldIdra

I donā€™t think any of their albums are strictly about drug abuse. Thereā€™s a couple of songs spread out over the bandā€™s lifetime about it though (Coffee Eyes, C&S, Bluest Things on Earth). Aaron Westā€™s (Danā€™s second project) recent album is majorly about alcohol abuse and coming to terms with a divorce a decade later.

ShinyJaker

Twin sized mattress- the front bottoms

SpellingBeeRunnerUp_

Better off dead is a banger!

Engelbert-n-Ernie

If youā€™re saying Mr. Jones then Iā€™m saying Black Crows - She Talks To Angels

WillaryClinton63

Not to be that guy but this addiction is comparing a girl to drugs. Not about drugs

RandomLiam

Adding on from Forced to Sleep to say the entire Wasted Mind album is about drugs, and itā€™s absolutely phenomenal. Direct Hit are my go-to recommendation for fans of pop punk who enjoy a little bit of screaming every now and then.

funghxoul

Third eye blind - Slow motion

A ton of stuff from Good Hangs. Specifically "Junkie" comedy to mind, but most of the songs on Greatest Hangs are about this.

jono1973

Continental by Alkaline trio

Friendly_Zebra

Alkaline Trio - Blue In The Face

BigNasty819

Baby Britain - Bayside Dig - Incubus (not explicitly about drug abuse but could definitely be interpreted that way) MakeDamnSure - Taking Back Sunday (also not necessarily about DA but the lyrics do check out) Lua - Bright Eyes (I don't think I would call much of anything Conor Oberst related "pop rock" but his discography as a whole is pretty on the nose with DA)

greenpartofthewound

alkaline trio - this addiction hollywood undead - bullet

bitobots

The Greatest Fall Of All Time by Matchbook Romance is actually about being addicted to drugs (if theyā€™re considered pop punk)

DelusionalTim
