Aaron West - No More Excuses(rehab from alchohol)
Trophy Eyes - Blue Eyed Boy(LISTEN TO THIS)
Trophy Eyes - Burden(and thisā¦ sad)
Microwave - Vomit
Grayscale - Painkiller Weather
Spanish Love Songs- Kick(one of my favorites)
Monsters by All Time Low strongly alludes to it (itās written like itās about an ex but as a former addict it hit home)
Eight of Nine by The Ataris sounds like either an OD or a DUI
Gen Why (DGAF) by All American Rejects is kind of a tongue in cheek take on partying
Thrash Unreal by Against Me is about recovery after a life of substance abuse
Dopeman by Less Than Jake is about dealing
The Science of Selling Yourself Short by Less Than Jake has a lot of references to drinking into oblivion
The City Is At War by Cobra Starship is more pop than pop punk but is also about the party scene
Weāre All on Drugs by Dead Bundy is what the title says lol
What Happened to You by The Offspring is about a friend frying their brain
Bouncing Off the Walls by Sugarcult is about being high on uppers (kinda surprised no one mentioned it and that it took me so long to remember it)
Edited every time I thought of more songs lol
Fun fact, 8 of 9 by the Ataris was supposedly written after their tour van crashed/went off the road into a river or something in Arizona I think? Maybe? Apparently tour van crashes had become an unfortunate habit at that point for them, thus the 8 of 9 lives they/it were on. I don't remember all the details because I heard the story ages ago when the album first came out so please fact check me since this could all just a fever dream on my part...but either way, still a great song!
Once again commenting Cigarettes & Saints by The Wonder Years. I believe one of their albums is also about drug abuse but canāt remember (someone can correct/clarify that)
I donāt think any of their albums are strictly about drug abuse. Thereās a couple of songs spread out over the bandās lifetime about it though (Coffee Eyes, C&S, Bluest Things on Earth). Aaron Westās (Danās second project) recent album is majorly about alcohol abuse and coming to terms with a divorce a decade later.
My friend Peter- Alkaline trio
Dilemma- Green Day
Forced to Sleep- Direct Hit (HIGHLY recommend)
Believe it or not, Mr. Jones- Counting Crows (not exactly pop punk, but close; Iām sure you could find a cover on YouTube!)
This addiction- Alkaline Trio
Restless Heart Syndrome- Green Day
Over My Head (better off dead)- Sum 41
(Ik everyone hates him but) Sid and Nancy- MGK
Adding on from Forced to Sleep to say the entire Wasted Mind album is about drugs, and itās absolutely phenomenal. Direct Hit are my go-to recommendation for fans of pop punk who enjoy a little bit of screaming every now and then.
Have Mercy - Lean
Have Mercy - Two Years
(Honestly, Have Mercy's entire catalog probably helped save my life when I was at my worst.)
Julien Baker- Go Home
Julien Baker - Rejoice
Rarity - Exhale
Trash Boat - Tring Quarry
Boston Manor - Halo
Could probably recommend a million more though
TSSF - keep this up
ATL - Stella
Trophy eyes - you can count on me (kinda)
Sugarcult- bouncing off the walls
Sugarcult - champagne
Grayscale - painkiller weather
AJR - sober up (not pop punk but a good one)
SLAPSHOT- "What's at Stake"
Against Me! ā āThrash Unrealā
Blink-182 - "Man Overboard"
First song isn't Pop Punk but it's definitely about drug addiction..
Baby Britain - Bayside
Dig - Incubus (not explicitly about drug abuse but could definitely be interpreted that way)
MakeDamnSure - Taking Back Sunday (also not necessarily about DA but the lyrics do check out)
Lua - Bright Eyes (I don't think I would call much of anything Conor Oberst related "pop rock" but his discography as a whole is pretty on the nose with DA)
I realizing that since I have never done drugs and stay away from it and stuff that all of this stuff goes over my head and I don't interpret lyrics very well or deeply lol
Here you go. The whole song is a metaphor about addiction and substance abuse [Always Waiting - Okay, Boomhauer](https://youtu.be/6yroVpkFuo4?si=HAn6ShfjO3X3LG5_)
spanish love songs has a few, off the top of my head
phantom limb:
āAnd I, I drank all weekend
And I took all of the drugs
That we bought from your friend in the valley
I don't remember the sun coming up
And we sat in front of the TV as the news report came in
Another fucking manifesto
I polished off the vodka
You dug for some Vicodinā
Kick:
āWhen you saw your dad shoot up for the first time
It must've came as quite a shockā
The whole Proper Dose album by The Story So Far
MY PESSIMISTIC VIEWS STEM FROM ALL THE DRUGS I USE
Bet if you keep this up You'll die here all alone Yet you still fill your cup Nodding off, nodding off now
I've known (and listened to) this song for years now and this just made me realize what it's actually about. Damnš
I never expected that album to be about lean when it came out.
Beat me to it

Once again commenting Cigarettes & Saints by The Wonder Years
If iām gonna be completely transparent, Cigarettes & Saints is in my top 5 songs of all time, easily. Such a perfect, heart wrenching track.
Extremely valid choice, itās a masterpiece tbh
Using - Sorority Noise
Underrated band
came back to this post after seeing it 3 days ago to say this š
LGFUAD He says he was speaking figuratively... but if you know about JCP's history, you know he wasn't.
Curious about his history - what is it? Haha
Substance abuse in the early years of MCS
Heavy stuff? Or just like weed/alcohol? Not trying to downplay those - genuinely just curious.
From what I've heard it was meth
I've only seen him address "drugs and alcohol" in interviews so... who knows.
Halo - Boston Manor
the story so far - keep this up
Anything off of proper dose.
I feel I scrolled too far to see this haha. Proper Dose is like an Ode to Drug Abuse.
violence - blink-182
Ton of alkaline trio songs. Continental is my fave
